Will Seth Trimble see a minutes increase in Year Two at UNC?

Seth Trimble was a key reserve at point guard for the UNC basketball team last year. He’s improved his confidence and shooting since then.

Last year was, undoubtedly, one of the most frustrating seasons in UNC basketball history.

The Heels made the wrong kind of history, becoming the first Preseason Number One to miss the NCAA Tournament, which was especially surprising after they returned four of five starters from the year before. They teetered on the brink of making the Big Dance, but a loss to UVA in the ACC Tourney all but ended those hopes.

UNC head coach Hubert Davis was often criticized for not utilizing his bench, something the Heels did so well in their 2019 title season. Bench players saw the court so little that, this offseason, seven players transferred out.

One key reserve that decided to stay was Seth Trimble, the sophomore guard from Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin.

Trimble will likely keep his hold on the backup point guard role, as 5-star freshman Elliot Cadeau will hold that spot down this year. Trimble played a bunch the first half of his freshman season, then saw his playing time dwindle as Davis fussed with the rotation.

Davis like what he sees out of Trimble ahead of Year Two, particularly in Trimble’s improved confidence and shooting ability.

“Seth has athleticism that is not normal,” Davis told TarHeelIllustrated’s Andrew Jones. “He can be, I think, the best defender in the county. His ability to pick up full court and keep the ball in front of him, he has the ability to be a problem on the defensive end.”

Trimble knows he has to show an improvement in his game, which will be the key for court time in a loaded guard rotation that includes transfers Cormac Ryan and Paxson Wojcik.

“I like to try and be a spark plug to the best of my ability,” Trimble told TarHeelIllustrated. “The starters play so many minutes. They need rest and they need help. They’re not always going to be super-hot, so just being a spark plug.”

Trimble’s first taste of game action will be in early November, when the Tar Heels host Radford on Monday, Nov. 6.

Cole Anthony praises two Tar Heels after scrimmages

Cole Anthony praises incoming five-star freshman Elliot Cadeau and sophomore Seth Trimble after workouts.

After former UNC guard [autotag]Cole Anthony[/autotag] was seen working out with incoming five-star freshman Elliot Cadeau, and sophomore Seth Trimble, he appeared on the Carolina Insider podcast to deliver some praise.

“Elliot reminds me of myself when I was coming to Carolina. He just wants to move at 100 miles per hour.”Anthony said Thursday on the Carolina Insider podcast. “He is super, super skilled. He’s got all the skill in the world, but everything is just super, super fast. He’s like Sonic the Hedgehog. He’s super fast. He’s the fastest on the court, but he doesn’t need to show it at all times. He can play at different speeds and break the game down in a way where he might be even harder to guard. Seth is one heck of a defender. He might not look like it, but he was doing a good job as anyone I have seen. That kid is going to be all right.”

Cole continued to speak on what it meant to be back on campus for the scrimmages.

“It has been good to get here and really connect with some of the younger players,” Anthony said. “I know Elliot Cadeau and RJ Davis, both dudes are from my area. I’ve been playing with RJ since I was a kid, so it’s been good to get in with him. Working with Elliot and Seth Trimble has been dope, connecting with the guards. The runs have been fun.”

Anthony will be entering his fourth season in the NBA after going 15th overall in the 2020 NBA draft. Anthony has averaged 14.2 points, five rebounds, and 4.6 assists in his first three seasons. Seeing the Tar Heel back on campus working with the next stars of UNC basketball should serve as a significant boost heading into the upcoming season.

LOOK: UNC basketball point guards pose for picture

A trio of UNC Basketball point guards pose for a photo as Carolina Basketball Camps get underway.

The college basketball season is months away, but players are already on campus to begin summer classes. And that means the annual Carolina Basketball Camps & Clinics are here as well.

With camps opening up, former and current players are all participating and that includes the popular pickup games that aren’t available to the public. As you know, the Carolina Family runs deep so when we see players get together and pose for photos, it’s always an awesome scene.

On Tuesday, a photo of two current UNC point guards and a former point guard posed for a photo. Elliot Cadeau, Seth Trimble and Cole Anthony got together as you can see below via Michelle Cadeau:

After playing one season in Chapel Hill, Anthony has spent his entire NBA career with the Orlando Magic. He’s a piece of a rebuild in Orlando as the Magic have a bright future ahead.

Trimble is entering his second season with the team after being the backup point guard to R.J. Davis a year ago.c and has joined the Tar Heels immediately. Between Cadeau and Trimble as well as Davis returning, UNC’s backcourt is likely going to be a strength for the team.

Surprising UNC basketball player starting to climb NBA draft boards

UNC basketball freshman guard Seth Trimble appears in ESPN’s 2023 NBA Draft big board to start the college season.

We are just a few games into the 2022-23 college basketball season and still have a long ways to go before we hit the NCAA Tournament. But the future of some of these players is still in the spotlight.

With the 2023 NBA Draft taking place next June, the next few months will give players the chance to improve their stock and climb draft boards.

Earlier this week, ESPN released its updated big board after the Champions Classic and three Tar Heels made the list including a surprising player. [autotag]Caleb Love[/autotag] led the way at No. 43 but behind him was freshman [autotag]Seth Trimble[/autotag] who has climbed to No. 73 overall.

The Wisconsin native checks in for the first time on ESPN’s draft board and while he’s in the 70’s, it’s interesting to see him included.

Trimble has played in all three games so far, averaging 14 minutes per game so far. While he’s only scored 3.7 points per game, it’s been his defense that has earned him more playing time and in the good graces of Hubert Davis.

It’s very hard to say if Trimble will leave after one year but if his stock continues to climb and his game gets better offensively, there’s a slight chance that could happen.

Graduate transfer Pete Nance was ranked No. 82 on the list for the Tar Heels.

UNC Basketball 2023-22 Snapshot Profile: No. 0 Seth Trimble

We take a look at our player profile preview for the UNC basketball program as guard Seth Trimble is up next.

As part of Hubert Davis’ first true recruiting class, guard [autotag]Seth Trimble[/autotag] is a key player for the future of this program.

Trimble is a legacy recruit as his brother, J.P. Tokoto played three seasons at North Carolina. The guard followed in the footsteps of his brother, committing to the Tar Heels as a top 30 overall player.

After a successful high school career, Trimble is ready to take the step at the next level. And he could provide immediate value as a freshman despite being behind both Caleb Love and R.J. Davis in the rotation.

Preseason Player Profile

Hometown: Menomonee Falls, Wis.

Ht: 6’3

Wt: 192

247Sports Composite Ranking

Four-Star /No. 30 overall/ No. 1 in Wisconsin // No. 6 PG

Class in 2023: Freshman

Depth Chart Overview

Trimble has a chance to come in and play valuable minutes right away due to the lack of guard depth on the roster. With R.J. Davis and Caleb Love being the two starters, Trimble should be one of the first guys off the bench to come in for either.

As a freshman, this is key for his growth overall. Getting good minutes early on is valuable for a player like Trimble. Plus, he gets to go against and learn from both Davis and Love in practice each day. He should be a key role player off the bench early on for the Tar Heels.

Preseason Bold Prediction

I think Trimble is going to be a better scorer than we think early on in his career. I can see him averaging 7-8 points per game as a freshman and make an immediate impact, something that will help this Tar Heel team, especially in the backcourt.

If this does happen, it could give Love and Davis more rest. Having a valuable guard like Trimble as a third option cannot be understated.

Look: UNC freshman Seth Trimble meets with Vince Carter

UNC basketball freshman guard Seth Trimble met with Vince Carter over the weekend, former star wing for the Tar Heels.

Former UNC guard Vince Carter isn’t shy about his love for the North Carolina basketball program. He also does as much as he can to give back to the team whenever he can.

Over the weekend, he met with current UNC basketball freshman guard [autotag]Seth Trimble. [/autotag]

Trimble was the highest-ranked member of the 2022 recruiting class for Carolina, ranked No. 35 in the 247Sports Composite rankings. His role will be extremely valuable this season, being the primary backup guard for Caleb Love and RJ Davis – a role UNC didn’t have last year.

Trimble, like Carter, is a highlight reel waiting to happen. Look no further than his highlight dunk at UNC camp last week. His athletic ability and skillset allows him to play both on and off of the ball, a valuable asset to the UNC backcourt.

While he has a long ways to go, if Trimble is anything like Carter, his career is going to be a very successful one.

Hubert Davis first season ‘a dream’ start for UNC basketball

Hubert Davis took UNC basketball to the National Championship in what is called ‘a dream’ first season from one college basketball analyst.

The UNC basketball program ushered in a new era just a little over 12 months ago with the retirement of Hall of Fame coach Roy Williams and the first head coaching gig for [autotag]Hubert Davis[/autotag].

It wasn’t all easy for Davis and the Tar Heels — especially at the beginning of the season. But, it’s what he did following that which made his first season so special.

Davis helped turn around a season that wasn’t going anywhere and led them to the NCAA National Championship game. Despite losing to Kansas, it was ‘a dream’ start for the Tar Heels in the Davis era, says Rivals national analyst Rob Cassidy.

The debut season of the Hubert Davis era was a dream forNorth Carolina fans. A slow start, especially defensively, caused some early concern but the ship righted itself to the tune of a run to the national title game that made everyone forget any early-season trouble. Davis followed that up by landing the commitment of No.1 overall prospect in the 2023 class

UNC finished last season 29-10 and 15-5 in the ACC.
As Cassidy mentioned, the Tar Heels have still be hot, getting a commitment from No. 1 overall prospect in the class of 2023 GG Jackson as well as getting four starters to return from last season.
The Tar Heels have their sights on another run at a National Championship this upcoming season, but for now, all is well in Chapel Hill and things look very bright for Davis on the North Carolina bench.

Look: UNC newcomers at first summer practice

The four incoming players for UNC basketball took part in their first official summer practice this week.

Earlier this week, it was the first time that UNC basketball freshmen and incoming transfers were included in practice.

This also means it was the first time that UNC’s lone transfer [autotag]Pete Nance[/autotag] was in a Carolina jersey.

Nance announced his commitment to the Tar Heels last week following his official visit.

Along with Nance, UNC’s freshmen [autotag]Jalen Washington[/autotag], [autotag]Seth Trimble[/autotag] and [autotag]Tyler Nickel[/autotag] also had their first practice.

North Carolina enters this offseason as the No. 1 team in the country and brings back four starters from last year’s team that made it to the National Championship game.

Nance averaged 14.6 points and 6.5 rebounds a season ago for Northwestern. Washington, Trimble and Nickel were all four-star recruits.

[autotag]Seth Trimble[/autotag], [autotag]Jalen Washington[/autotag] and [autotag]Tyler Nickel[/autotag] will on be on campus for the first time this week, joining fellow member of the class of 2022 [autotag]Will Shaver[/autotag], a power forward who enrolled early at UNC in the spring.

Trimble: No. 0

Washington: No. 13

Shaver: No. 21

The freshmen join a roster that returns almost every signifiant player from its rotation last season, excluding Brady Manek who was out of eligibility.

The Tar Heels finished last season 29-10 and lost in the National Championship game to Kansas. They went 15-5 in the ACC and finished second in the league.
