Seth Trimble NOT suiting up for game at Miami

Part of why UNC’s been so successful this year is due to its guard play. One of UNC’s key reserves will miss a second-straight game.

Seth Trimble provides valuable reserve minutes for the UNC men’s basketball team, giving starters RJ Davis and Elliot Cadeau some much-needed rest at guard.

Unfortunately for the Tar Heels, Trimble was ruled out before Tuesday’s loss against Clemson with an upper-body injury. This forced heavy usage on Cadeau and Davis, with the latter – despite scoring 22 points, setting a personal season-high in 3-pointers and passing Michael Jordan on the all-time UNC scoring – suffering one of his worst shooting nights on the campaign.

North Carolina also put reserve guard Paxson Wojcik on the court for a season-high 22 minutes, which paid off with a season-high seven points.

UNC will once again rely on its guard trio of Davis, Cadeau and Wojcik, as Trimble was ruled out for Saturday’s game at Miami with the same upper-body injury.

Missing Trimble, who is known particularly for his defense, could prove troublesome for the Tar Heels. Three of Miami’s top four scorers – Matthew Cleveland, Nijel Pack and Wooga Poplar – are all guards.

Cormac Ryan is technically listed as a small forward for UNC, but he could bring some much-needed production at the guard spot. Ryan’s been ice-cold recently, making just 13 field goals in his last five games combined, but he’s due to break out at some point.

Who will step up in Trimble’s absence?

Hubert Davis provides key injury update to Seth Trimble

UNC basketball head coach Hubert Davis provided an update on guard Seth Trimble’s injury ahead of Miami game.

The North Carolina Tar Heels were missing a key piece to the rotation during Tuesday’s loss to Clemson in Chapel Hill. Before the game started, the program revealed that sophomore guard Seth Trimble would miss the game due to an injury.

Trimble reportedly suffered an injury in practice leading into the game and it was pretty evident early on that the Tar Heels were going to miss him.

Without Trimble on the court, UNC struggled a little defensively against a good-shooting Clemson team. But with a very important game coming up on the road at Miami, the big question is whether or not Trimble will be available.

During Friday’s press conference, Davis was asked about Trimble and called him a ‘game-time’ decision.

“He’s continuing to improve, and it’s gonna be a game-time decision,” Davis said at his press conference on Friday afternoon via Inside Carolina. “But every day he’s getting better.”

North Carolina hasn’t specified what the injury is exactly, calling it just an upper-body injury.

The hope is that Trimble is back for Saturday’s game as UNC is facing another tough test. Getting him back into the rotation would be huge not only on the defensive side but on offense as well.

What went wrong in UNC’s loss to Clemson

A look back at UNC’s Tuesday night loss, taking a closer look at what went wrong for the Tar Heels.

The UNC men’s basketball program has their first home loss of the season, losing 80-76 to the Clemson Tigers.

A lot went wrong in the loss, and some concerning things were said following it. Before getting into what went wrong for the UNC basketball program, hats off to Clemson for never letting up, it was the first time UNC didn’t have a lead in the game since the 2022 home loss to Duke.

Despite never getting the lead, UNC flirted with getting in front of the Tigers, but couldn’t overcome their attack. Clemson also did a great job on switches, forcing UNC into questionable shot attempts, resulting in their second-lowest shooting percentage from the field (36.9%) of the season.

What else went wrong for UNC is the absence of [autotag]Seth Trimble[/autotag], who has been ideal off the bench all season. His defensive abilities and strong finishing at the rim were deeply needed.

Even with energy lacking, the fact that the Tar Heels only lost by four points despite arguably their worst game of the year tells you how good this team truly is. [autotag]Armando Bacot[/autotag] dominated for the second game in a row with 24 points and 13 rebounds. While [autotag]Paxson Wojcik[/autotag] stepped up in place of Trimble, finishing with the second-highest rebounds (6) on the team.

In the end, UNC went flat but wouldn’t be shocked if energy is pumped into them for Saturday’s game against the Miami Hurricanes. We saw how they looked coming off the Georgia Tech loss, expect the same from this one.

Seth Trimble and Creighton Lebo OUT for Tuesday’s UNC-Clemson tilt

Seth Trimble and Creighton Lebo, two guards on the UNC men’s basketball team, will not be able to provide valuable minutes on Tuesday night.

The UNC men’s basketball team looks to begin another long winning streak as it hosts a struggling Clemson program at 7 p.m. ET on Tuesday.

North Carolina will rely heavily on its starting lineup for production, but its bench has shown an ability to contribute in Year 3 under head coach Hubert Davis.

Unfortunately for the Tar Heels, they’ll be two players short on the bench against Clemson.

Seth Trimble (upper body), who has spent most of the year providing valuable minutes in relief of Elliot Cadeau, and Creighton Lebo (illness), the son of assistant coach Jeff Lebo who has appeared in just five games, will not suit up for Tuesday’s key, early week ACC tilt against the Tigers.

Missing Lebo will not hurt much. He is the only Tar Heel who hasn’t scored this season.

Missing Trimble, however, could create some extra pressure for UNC’s guard rotation of Cadeau, RJ Davis, Cormac Ryan, Paxson Wojcik and Rob Landry.

Trimble averages 5.6 points per game, sixth-most on the Tar Heels, while grabbing 2.3 rebounds and shooting 42.9% from deep (third-best).

Let’s see how North Carolina utilizes its guard rotation when short its most key bench contributor.

If you thought the Battle 4 Atlantis was difficult, wait till you see who UNC plays next.

Carolina’s men’s basketball team, coming off an 87-72 victory over Arkansas on Friday, Nov. 24., now turns its attention to another SEC program in Tennessee.

UNC (5-1), ranked 17th in the latest AP Poll, is hosting the Volunteers on Wednesday, Nov. 29 at 7:15 p.m. This game will be part of the ACC-SEC Challenge, a fun tournament won by the conference with most matchup victories, that replaces the ACC-Big 10 and Big 12-SEC Challenges.

Carolina returns home for the first time since Friday, Nov. 17, when it dominated UC-Riverside in a 77-52 result. The Heels went 2-1 in the Battle 4 Atlantis, but were just an overtime period away from the championship game.

Tennessee, which made a Trip to the Sweet 16 last year, is sitting 4-2 after a 1-2 showing in the Maui Invitational. The Volunteers made headlines by beating Michigan State, ranked fourth at the time, in East Lansing during both teams’ season-opener.

This will be the Tar Heels’ last game before opening ACC play, which begins on Saturday, Nov. 2 in the Dean Dome against Florida State. Tennessee is off the rest of the week, then returns home to host George Mason on Tuesday, Dec. 5.

UNC holds the all-time series record at 10-2, but the Volunteers won the most recent matchup, an 89-72 result on Nov. 21, 2021.

UNC basketball makes change to starting lineup in Bahamas

The UNC basketball program made a change in the starting lineup as Seth Trimble will make his first start in the Bahamas.

The North Carolina Tar Heels are making a change ahead of their first Battle 4 Atlantis game on Wednesday.

Ahead of their opener against Northern Iowa in the Bahamas, the Tar Heels made a change to the starting lineup. Sophomore guard Seth Trimble will make his first start of the season, joining the lineup against Northern Iowa.

Trimble will replace Paxson Wojcik in the lineup who had previously started the first three games of the year.

The guard is coming off one of his best performances in the win over UC Riverside, scoring 11 points while shooting 71.4 percent from the field in the game. That included a big dunk that got the Dean Dome crowd on their feet.

The rest of North Carolina’s starting lineup remains the same as R.J. Davis, Cormac Ryan, Harrison Ingram, and Armando Bacot will all start.

WATCH: Seth Trimble gets Dean Dome on feet after big dunk

UNC basketball guard Seth Trimble threw down a big two-handed dunk as the Tar Heels cruised past UC-Riverside.

Sophomore guard Seth Trimble wasn’t part of the transfer portal exodus that the North Carolina Tar Heels saw in the offseason. Instead, he opted to stay despite knowing he’d have a role on the bench.

With Trimble returning, North Carolina’s guard depth is even deeper now as he looks to make a big leap forward in his development. Through three games, Trimble has flashed some signs of getting better as he’s backed up RJ Davis at the point guard spot.

And on Friday night, Trimble had an early highlight play.

After a Jae’Lyn Withers block, Trimble took the pass from Davis and threw down a two-handed dunk on the UC-Riverside player. Watch the dunk below:

Trimble got the UNC crowd on their feet with the big dunk as UNC extended the lead to 24-9. They would go on to cruise to the win, moving to 3-0 on the year.

The Tar Heels will head to the Bahamas to play in the Battle 4 Atlantis, opening up against Northern Iowa.

UNC Basketball Roundtable: Who will be Tar Heels’ most surprising player?

Our UNC basketball round table takes a look at who will be the most surprising Tar Heel for the 2023-24 season.

The North Carolina Tar Heels will begin the 2023-24 season on Monday, hosting Radford in a non-conference battle in the Dean Dome.

UNC’s program is coming off a tough season last year, missing out on the NCAA Tournament after being the preseason No. 1. But this team will have a new look in Hubert Davis’ third season.

The Tar Heels were very active in the transfer portal, losing key members while also utilizing it to add to the roster. In all, the Tar Heels added three new starters as well as some key depth pieces. The hope is that they improved the roster despite losing players from last season and can make a run at the NCAA Tournament again.

As we get set for the new season, we decided to do a roundtable here at Tar Heels Wire, answering questions about UNC as well as the ACC. First up in the series is a look at who we think will be the most surprising player on the roster this season.

UNC Basketball 2023-24 player preview: Seth Trimble

Our UNC basketball 2023-24 season player preview continues with Sophomore guard Seth Trimble.

We are a few weeks away from fans echoing Tar Heel chants through the Dean Smith Center as the UNC men’s basketball program looks to bounce back from last season.

One way the Tar Heels will look to fix last season’s problem is by using the new talent they acquired through the transfer portal and recruiting class while giving more responsibility to the players who are back in the Carolina blue threads.

One player returning and expected to take a leap is sophomore guard [autotag]Seth Trimble[/autotag]. If any player benefited the most from the departure of Caleb Love and D’Marco Dunn, it is Trimble, who is set to emerge as a household name this season.

Last season proved UNC’s national title run the year before could have been flukish, but without the same hype they had going into last season, it is a possibility the Tar Heels perform better when the expectations are not as high.

Regardless, a big part of what UNC hopes to do involves our following player review, Trimble, so let us get right into it.

Two UNC basketball players sidelined as practice begins

Two UNC basketball players missed the open practice session during media day with minor injuries.

The North Carolina Tar Heels have begun preparation for the upcoming season as Hubert Davis and his staff look to get this program back to the NCAA Tournament.

North Carolina’s roster will look a lot different this season, losing three starters and a few others to the transfer portal. They do welcome in a handful of players from the portal as well as a two-man recruiting class for the 2023 cycle.

As UNC continues with practice, they held an open session to for the media during media day last week. And two players were spotted NOT practicing during that session.

Per Rodd Baxley of the Fayetteville Observer, sophomore Seth Trimble and transfer Jae’Lyn Withers were both sidelined during the open portion:

A pair of Tar Heels, sophomore Seth Trimble and Louisville transfer Jae’Lyn Withers, were sidelined during the portion of practice open to the media. Both players were nursing minor lower-body injuries, according to UNC sports information director Steve Kirschner.

Both injuries are considered “minor” which means they likely aren’t serious at the moment and are probably being held out for precautions.

The Tar Heels will open up the season in just under a month, and both Withers and Trimble’s status moving forward.
