The 2023 Major League Baseball first-year player draft is taking place Sunday-Tuesday in Seattle, Washington.

The MLB first-year player draft is being held in conjunction with the 2023 MLB All-Star Game on Tuesday.

Tennessee redshirt junior pitcher Seth Halvorsen was selected by Colorado in the seventh-round with the No. 202 overall pick.

Halvorsen played at Tennessee from 2022-23. He did not play in 2022 due to injury.

Halvorsen (3-3) appeared in 25 games, including one start, at Tennessee in 2023. The 6-foot-2, 225-pound pitcher recorded 52 strikeouts and a .381 ERA in 52 innings.

He is the fourth Vol to be selected in the 2023 MLB draft.

Tennessee junior pitcher Chase Dollander was selected in the first-round by Colorado with the No. 9 overall pick.

Vols’ junior shortstop Maui Ahuna was selected by San Francisco in the fourth-round with the No. 117 overall pick.

Tennessee junior pitcher Andrew Lindsey was selected by Miami in the fifth-round with the No. 146 overall pick.

Six Vols to be honored on senior day

Six Vols and two student-workers will be honored on senior day ahead of Tuesday’s Tennessee-Belmont baseball game.

No. 19 Tennessee (35-17, 14-13 SEC) will host Belmont (23-29, 8-17 MVC) on Tuesday at Lindsey Nelson Stadium.

First pitch between the Vols and Bruins is slated for 5 p.m. EDT and the in-state contest can be watched on SEC Network+. Andy Brock (PxP) and Caylan Arnold (analyst) will be on the call.

Tennessee leads the all-time series versus Belmont, 13-4. The Vols were victorious, 18-0, in the last meeting on May 17, 2022 at Lindsey Nelson Stadium.

Redshirt sophomore pitcher Seth Halvorsen announced Thursday he will transfer to Tennessee.

“Thank you to everyone at Mizzou for the past three years, but I am blessed to be able to say that I am committed to continue my baseball career at the University of Tennessee,” Halvorsen said on Twitter.

Halvorsen pitched in 18 games during the 2019 and 2021 campaigns at Missouri.

Halvorsen was 4-3 with a 5.82 ERA with the Tigers. He struck out 72 batters, walked 63 and allowed 50 earned runs.

In 34 at-bats, Halvorsen recorded a .176 batting average, six hits, two doubles, one home run, three RBIs, four walks, five stolen bases and scored seven runs.
