Texas A&M tied atop the SEC standings after Week 12

Here are the latest SEC standings after Week 12

Texas A&M (8-2, 5-1 SEC) took care of business on Saturday night against New Mexico State, defeating the road Aggies 38-3 behind QB Marcel Reed and sophomore tight end Theo Melin Öhrström’s career-high 111 receiving yards.

The Aggies dominated the, yes, Aggies from start to finish, mounting a 24-0 lead in the first half before defensive adjustments slowed down A&M’s passing attack.

Defensively, head coach Mike Elko received a clear message from defensive lineman Malick Sylla, who recorded two sacks and three tackles for loss in his second appearance this season. The junior should continue to see the field over the next two weeks.

Before facing Auburn on the road next Saturday night, Texas A&M is tied with the Texas Longhorns, who defeated Arkansas 20-10 on Saturday afternoon, atop the SEC standings. At the same time, Georgia’s big win over Tennessee has pushed the Vols down the standings and out of the running for the SEC Championship.

Here are the updated SEC standings ahead of the Week 13 slate:

Texas A&M is back in the drivers seat in the latest SEC standings after Week 11

Texas A&M remains tied atop the SEC standings after Georgia’s loss to Ole Miss in Week 11

Texas A&M enjoyed the bye week before embarking on the final stretch of the 2024 regular season. The team will start by hosting New Mexico State on Saturday night and then traveling to face Auburn in Week 12. The season finale will be against Texas on Saturday, Nov. 30.

While Head Coach Mike Elko and his team were focused on fixing the many issues that plagued the Aggies in their Week 10 loss to South Carolina, ignoring the rest of the Week 11 SEC slate would have been nearly impossible, especially with tie-breaking scenarios on the line.

Entering the week tied for first in the SEC standings with Georgia, the Bulldogs’ 28-10 loss to Ole Miss wasn’t a complete surprise, as QB Carson Beck has thrown 12 interceptions in the last three games. At the same time, the Rebels have continued to look like one of the best teams in the SEC over the past three games.

With Texas and Tennessee earning big home wins, the Volunteers are tied first with Texas A&M at 5-1. However, Tennessee will travel to Athens (GA) to face Georgia next Saturday, while the Aggies will remain at 5-1 in the conference play regardless.

Here are the updated SEC standings ahead of the Week 12 slate:

New No. 1 in the latest SEC standings after Week 10

Texas A&M no longer holds sole possession of first place in the SEC standings after falling to South Carolina

Of course, Texas A&M’s 44-20 loss to South Carolina is a large blemish on what has been a very successful season. Poor defense, including 25 missed tackles against the Gamecocks, resulted in a drubbing inside a packed and loud Williams-Brice Stadium.

However, the season isn’t in jeopardy. The Aggies still have a firm grip on their postseason destination. They are tied atop the SEC standings at 5-1 and have three regular-season games remaining after this week’s bye. This control should reassure fans that the season is far from over.

Even so, offensive coordinator Collin Klein’s lack of imagination, seen on nearly every second-half drive, didn’t help Marcel Reed. The quarterback struggled in the pocket while the running game was shut down after Le’Veon Moss’s early knee injury. Texas A&M’s offense under Klein has become a talking point and will continue to be until improvement comes.

The championship game race became clearer around the rest of the SEC as Georgia, Tennessee and Ole Miss won. Here are the updated SEC standings ahead of the Week 11 slate:

2024 SEC Football Standings after Week 10

  1. No. 2 Georgia (7-1, 5-1 SEC)
  2. No. 15 Texas A&M (7-1, 5-1 SEC)
  3. No. 7 Tennessee (7-1, 4-1 SEC)
  4. No. 5 Texas (7-1, 3-1 SEC)
  5. No. 14 LSU (6-1, 3-1 SEC)
  6. No. 24 Vanderbilt (6-3, 3-2 SEC)
  7. No. 16 Ole Miss (7-2, 3-2 SEC)
  8. No. 11 Alabama (6-2, 3-2 SEC)
  9. South Carolina (5-3, 3-3 SEC)
  10. Arkansas (5-4, 3-3 SEC)
  11. Missouri (6-2, 2-2 SEC)
  12. Florida (4-4, 2-3 SEC)
  13. Oklahoma (5-4, 1-4)

Checking in on the SEC men’s basketball standings entering final week of the regular season

The Tigers sit at 8-8 in conference play with two games remaining.

With two games to go in the men’s basketball regular season, LSU continues to impress down the stretch.

Winners of four of their last five, the Tigers sit at 8-8 in conference play after winning just two SEC games last season. While an NCAA Tournament bid is likely out of the question barring an impressive run in Nashville next week, an NIT bid is still very much in play, which would be a good sign of progress in Year 2 under [autotag]Matt McMahon[/autotag].

First, though, LSU has two more regular season games against Arkansas and Missouri. It will likely be favored against both and has a good chance of reaching the double-digit win threshold in conference play.

In the meantime, here’s how the standings look with two games to go.

Final SEC standings after the conclusion of the 2023 regular season

The regular season is in the books, and Alabama will face Georgia once again for the SEC title next weekend.

The 2023 regular season is in the books as LSU closed things out at home with a win over Texas A&M to finish 9-3 for the second year in a row. Now, the Tigers will await their bowl fate next weekend.

LSU won’t be participating in the SEC Championship Game this time around. That matchup has been set for a few weeks now as Alabama will take on Georgia for the conference title in Atlanta on Saturday.

The standings are now complete in the SEC as much of the league played non-conference in Rivalry Week, aside from a handful of conference games including a wild Iron Bowl.

Here’s how the final 2023 SEC standings look.

Checking in on the SEC standings heading into rivalry week

Most of the league had the week off from conference play in preparation for rivalry week.

After the so-called “SoCon Challenge” in the SEC this week in which many teams faced either FCS or Group of Five opponents, rivalry week is finally upon us.

Week 12 was fairly quiet in the SEC with the only major upset coming in Auburn as the Tigers were stunned 31-10 by New Mexico State. In the few conference matchups this weekend, Georgia boat raced Tennessee, Florida squandered a chance to upset Missouri on the road and South Carolina took down Kentucky to keep its bowl hopes alive.

Here’s a full rundown of the SEC standings after Week 12 as we prepare for the final week of the regular season.

SEC Standings Update: Conference championship matchup set after Week 11

We’re heading toward a huge battle in Atlanta in a few weeks.

In a day that didn’t feature many competitive games in the SEC, LSU’s performance in the 52-35 win over Florida was the highlight.

Quarterback Jayden Daniels became the first player in FBS history to throw for 350 yards in a game and rush for 200, and he may now be the frontrunner to win the Heisman.

Unfortunately for the Tigers, they won’t be returning to Atlanta this season as Alabama clinched the SEC West with a blowout win over Kentucky. It will face Georgia, which clinched the East by dominating Ole Miss.

With the championship matchup set, here’s how the SEC standings look with two weeks to play.

Updating the SEC Standings after LSU’s tough loss in Tuscaloosa

We have clear frontrunners in each division now.

We have a pair of clear frontrunners in the SEC.

In Week 10, Alabama seized control of the West division with a 42-28 home win over LSU as the Tigers couldn’t recreate their magic from last season’s upset win. In the East, Georgia all but clinched another division title as it held on to take down Missouri.

Elsewhere in the league, Ole Miss survived a shootout against Texas A&M while Arkansas got its first conference win on the road against Florida.

As we prepare to enter the final three weeks of the 2023 season, here’s how the SEC standings look following the end of Week 10.

How a three-team tie in the SEC West could be decided

Here’s how a three-way tie could be determined at the top of the SEC West.

The SEC West is shaping up to be a three-horse race. Alabama, Ole Miss and LSU all have a shot at the title entering November.

LSU and Alabama are set to face this week in a game that will have major divisional implications. A win for Alabama puts the Crimson Tide firmly in the driver’s seat and eliminates LSU from contention.

A win for LSU opens up a world of possibilities. That would put the Tigers in a three-way tie at the top of the division with Ole Miss and Alabama.

That would mean LSU beats Alabama, who beat Ole Miss, who beat LSU. If all three won out, there’d be a three-way tie at the top of the division.

With that round-robin, the head-to-head tiebreaks aren’t getting us anywhere. So, the tie-breaking procedures get more complicated.

The first step is take a look at the team’s record within the division. In this scenario, all three finish 5-1 against SEC West teams.

Next, we’d move to record against all common non-divisional teams. Again, nothing here, because the three don’t share any common non-divisional opponents.

Here’s where it starts to get interesting. It could come down to who faced the toughest schedule by looking at the best cumulative conference record of non-divisional opponents.

That works in LSU’s favor right now with the Tigers’ East opponents, Missouri and Florida, sitting at a combined 6-3 within the conference, better than the combined 5-5 cumulative record of both Ole Miss and Alabama’s opponents.

It’s unlikely to get to this point with LSU being an underdog at Alabama and Ole Miss still having to face Georgia, but it’s worth keeping an eye on.

SEC Standings: Checking in on where things stand after LSU’s bye in Week 9

LSU got to watch this weekend’s SEC action from the sidelines as it prepares for the Alabama game next weekend.

LSU had the chance to sit on the sidelines and watch the rest of the league in action during Week 9.

Alabama, who the Tigers face next weekend in Tuscaloosa with College GameDay in town, also had the week off to prepare for a matchup that could very well decide the SEC West once again.

Elsewhere in the league, Florida’s outside hopes of winning the SEC East came to a resounding end with a blowout loss to rival Georgia in Jacksonville. Tennessee outlasted Kentucky on the road, Texas A&M got back on track against South Carolina and Ole Miss took care of business against Vanderbilt.

Auburn also got its first SEC win under Hugh Freeze, beating Mississippi State.

Here’s how things look in the league standings after the bye in Week 9.
