Gators creeping up 247Sports SEC poll after beating Kentucky

Florida continues to move up the 247Sports SEC poll following a big win over Kentucky. The Gators are tied for 11th in the conference after Week 8.

The Florida Gators are tied for 11th in the SEC after eight weeks of play, according to the SEC beat writers at 247Sports.

Each week, the 247Sports SEC writers vote to rank each of the 16 teams in the conference and adjust the poll accordingly. Georgia moved ahead of Texas after taking down the Longhorns in convincing fashion, earning all 16 first-place votes.

Florida is tied for the biggest move up the rankings this week with a two-spot jump. Tennessee and South Carolina both moved up two places as well, ranking fourth and 10th, respectively.

Alabama is the big loser this week after looking undisciplined in its loss to Tennessee. The post-Nick Saban era hasn’t been a complete disaster, but it’s clear that the culture is changing in Tuscaloosa. Officials called 15 penalties against the Crimson Tide on Saturday, including a personal foul that turned a late fourth-and-7 into a fourth-and-22

Loss to Georgia drops Florida one spot in Week 10 247Sports SEC Poll

Florida’s loss to Georgia on Saturday has the Gators moving down a spot in the Week 10 update for the 247Sports SEC Poll.

Many of the 247Sports SEC Poll voters expected Georgia to beat to Florida, but the Gators still dropped a spot in the Week 10 update thanks to a one-sided matchup that many believed would be closer.

There’s nowhere for Georgia to go but down at this point with a firm chokehold on the top spot in the conference. The Bulldogs are one of eight undefeated FBS teams and hold all 15 of the first-place votes in this week’s poll.

Behind the ‘Dawgs are the two teams atop the SEC West, Alabama and Ole Miss. The Crimson Tide already won the head-to-head between the two, so there’s a pretty clear 1-2-3 in the SEC right now.

Things get a bit hazier after that, though. LSU and Missouri are practically interchangeable at Nos. 4 and 5. Florida’s impending road matchups with both could decide which team finishes higher on this list. The Gators need to upset one of the Tigers teams to make a significant jump with Tennessee and Texas A&M ahead of UF.

Considering the outcomes of both games, it’s interesting that Tennessee finishes ahead of Florida and Kentucky is behind them at No. 9. Rounding out the back half of the poll are Auburn, South Carolina, Mississippi State, Arkansas and Vanderbilt.

The Gators host the Razorbacks this weekend.

4 LSU

13 Arkansas
14 Vanderbilt

2023 preseason SEC champion poll: Where is Georgia?

Georgia predicted to repeat as SEC champion…

The official 2023 preseason SEC champion poll as voted on by media members has been released following SEC Media Days in Nashville.

Not surprisingly, Georgia, the reigning SEC champion, led all teams with 181 first place votes to win the conference again.

Alabama and LSU finished behind the Bulldogs with 61 and 32 votes respectively.

Tennessee and, surprisingly Vanderbilt, each received five votes. Arkansas and Auburn both received two votes.

Texas A&M, Mississippi State and South Carolina each received one vote, while Ole Miss, Kentucky, Missouri and Florida received no votes.

Georgia was picked to win the East with 2011 points, including 265 first-place votes. Tennessee was second with 1682 points and 14 votes to win the division, while South Carolina was third with 1254 points.

Alabama was picked to win the West with 1899 total points, topping LSU with 1838 points and Texas A&M was third with 1144 points.

Taking the Bulldogs to repeat as champion is the easiest bet with how the SEC East has played against Georgia as of late. The West is more intriguing in terms of competition as LSU looks to hold of Alabama and Nick Saban.

Respect they deserve: Arkansas picked third in SEC West, gets first-place vote

Arkansas can no longer be called an underdog against most of its SEC brethren.

Arkansas, or at least the Arkansas fanbase, has long preferred to play from a place of an underdoing, to play with a chip on their shoulder.

That may be fading under coach Sam Pittman.

The Razorbacks were picked third in the SEC West at the end of SEC Media Days on Friday. Arkansas had been picked last in the division each of the last three seasons.

One unnamed voter even gave Arkansas a first-place vote for the division. And while that’s probably a homer vote, in recent years past, it would have been absurd. It’s far less so this year.

Arkansas went 9-4 last year in Pittman’s second season at the helm. A win over Penn State in the Outback Bowl capped things and gave the Hogs their best season since 2011.

The return of four preseason All-SEC players and quarterback KJ Jefferson is the biggest on-field reason for the respect, but Pittman is the biggest reason overall.

Here’s a look at the whole set of predictions from the SEC, beginning with the West.
