Suni Lee earns bronze medal in Paris Olympic All-Around final

Lee earned her second medal of the Paris Games on Thursday, and the fifth of her career.

[autotag]Suni Lee[/autotag] will exit the Paris Games with another medal to add to her luggage.

The former Auburn star competed in the All-Around finals Thursday after finishing third in Sunday’s qualifier. She concluded the event by scoring 56.465, high enough to earn a Bronze medal. She finished behind silver medalist Rebeca Andrade from Brazil and gold medalist Simone Biles, her Team USA teammate.

Lee earned the Bronze medal after a stellar floor routine. Her 13.666 score lifted Lee from fourth place into medal status.

The Bronze is the second for Lee in the Paris Games. She won a Gold medal Wednesday after Team USA claimed the top spot in the Women’s finals. In all, Lee holds five Olympic medals including two Gold.

Suni Lee advances to All-Around final at Paris Olympics

Lee finished third in Sunday’s All-Around competition with a 56.132.

Team USA gymnast [autotag]Suni Lee[/autotag] continues dominating the Olympic Games competition.

On Sunday, the former Auburn star scored 56.132 in the All-Around competition, which was high enough to earn a third-place overall finish and a spot on Thursday’s All-Around final. She earned the slot by finishing third on bars (14.866) and fourth on beam (14.033).

USA TODAY’s Nancy Armour and Tom Schad say that Lee’s performance on bars is what ultimately lifted her to a spot in the All-Around finals.

(Jordan) Chiles was narrowly ahead of Lee going into the group’s final rotation, uneven bars — but unfortunately for her, that happens to be Lee’s best event. And the reigning Olympic all-around champion delivered. In a pressure-packed moment, she registered a score of 14.866 — six-tenths better than Chiles — to squeak into the second all-around qualification spot.

Lee will join Simone Biles at the All-Around finals on Thursday at 11:15 CT. While we wait to watch Lee compete again, take a look at the best images from Lee’s stay in Paris so far.

‘I’m praying she’s on the team.’ Gold medalist Shawn Johnson praises Suni Lee ahead of trials

The former Auburn gymnast will compete for a spot on the US Gymnastics team ahead of this year’s Summer Olympics, and Johnson is cheering for her every step of the way.

Three short years ago, former Auburn gymnast [autotag]Suni Lee[/autotag] earned a gold medal in the all-around competition at the Tokyo Summer Olympics. Now, she will aim to repeat that performance at the Paris Summer Games later this year.

She will need a strong showing at the US Gymnastics trials that take place later this week in Minneapolis, Minnesota, her hometown. Lee will have plenty of support in her competition, but one gold medalist is backing Lee in a big way.

Shawn Johnson, a fellow Olympic gold medalist, recently shared her support of Lee in an interview with The Tennessean. Johnson says that Lee shows heart when she competes and is “praying that she is on the team” that will compete in Paris beginning in July. Johnson is inspired by Lee’s bounce back after a kidney ailment sidelined her for months and ultimately ended her Auburn career.

“She’s a sweet, kind, amazing young woman,” Johnson said in an interview with The Tennessean. “To see her come back after her journey with her health . . . it’s really, really cool and really powerful.”

In her first major event following her set back, Lee finished fourth in the all-around at the US Gymnastics Championships where she earned a silver medal on beam. Her road to recovery and competition has been grueling, but Lee has worked hard to return to form. In February, she told Olympics.com that her issue was in remission, and that she worked eight hours a day in the gym to prepare for Olympic competition.

“Things are definitely way better now,” Lee said to Olympics.com. “Of course, I still have to go to the doctors every couple of weeks. I just got an infusion. But they said that I’ve been progressing a lot. I’ve been able to wake up every single day and I’m perfectly fine. I also have been doing this for long enough now, I think, to know the right time to take my medicine, to be able to be perfect for in the morning.”

Lee’s final shot to earn a spot on Team USA will take place June 27-30 at the US Gymnastics trials. The 2024 Olympic Games will begin on July 26 in Paris.

LSU gymnastics’ Konnor McClain takes home weekly award

LSU’s Konnor McClain recorded a perfect 10 on bars at last weekend’s quad meet.

LSU gymnastics star freshmen took home some SEC honors this week with [autotag]Konnor MccLain[/autotag] winning SEC Specialist of The Week.

McClain notched a perfect 10 on bars last weekend at the Sprouts Collegiate Quad Meet, where the Tigers finished second, behind Oklahoma but ahead of Utah and UCLA.

McClain’s 10 earned hers the bars title at the meet and continued a strong start to her career. McClain’s performance made her the seventh gymnast in program history to record a perfect score on bars and the first to do it away from home since 2019.

With the help of McClain, LSU posted its third-highest bars score in program history.

The Tigers are set to begin conference play on Friday with Kentucky visiting the PMAC. It’s a top-10 battle with LSU sitting at No. 8 and Kentucky at No. 6.
