Connor Zilisch, in the No. 7 Silver Hare Racing Chevrolet Camaro, set pole for the season-opening Trans Am Series presented by Pirelli’s CUBE 3 Architecture TA2 Series race at Sebring International Raceway. He was TA2’s winningest driver in 2023, earning five victories and four pole awards, and added to that tally Friday with a 2m05.062s lap.

“It feels really good to be on the pole,” said Zilisch. “This is a brand new car; we didn’t get the chance to test at all because I’ve been so busy the last few weeks, so this is just a testament to all the people at Silver Hare and the work that they put into these cars in the off-season. We’ve got two cars in the front two rows, so we’ve got a really good chance to get on the podium tomorrow as a team and have a good first race to the season. I’m really proud of everyone at Silver Hare Racing. We ended last year really well and wanted to come back here to Sebring and start the season really well. I haven’t had a lot of success here in the past, unfortunately, but we’re starting in a good place tomorrow. I’ve got a lot of confidence that we’ll be able to keep it up front and, hopefully, end our Sebring weekend with a win to start the season off strong.”

The race will be contested Saturday at 11:15 a.m. ET and will be broadcast live on MAVTV Select and at 3:00 p.m. ET on MAVTV. It can also be streamed live here.

The re-broadcast of the CUBE 3 Architecture TA2 Series race will air on MAVTV on Thursday, February 29 at 8:00 p.m. ET.

Samantha Tan and Neil Verhagen claimed the overall win, along with the PRO-AM Class win at Sebring International Raceway. It was Tan’s first overall win in the Fanatec GT World Challenge America powered by AWS series. Jan Heylen and Madison Snow took home back-to-back victories with a win in race two. Green flag conditions gave the two teams nothing but a runway to victory.

PRO Class
Heylen started his day from the pole position and immediately faced on onslaught of PRO-AM Class competition racing past him. He gave space to the separate race to hand over the No. 45 Wright Motorsports Porsche 911 GT3 R to Snow, who cruised to a second win. Bill Auberlen and Chandler Hull in the No. 120 BimmerWorld BMW M4 GT3 gained position early in the race and maintained progress to finish second.

Stevan McAleer in the No. 28 RS1 Porsche 911 GT3 R was the first to pit after running his stint in fourth. Eric Filgueiras made up a position for a third-place finish in part to the shuffling of pit lane and by overtaking Seth Lucas in the No. 53 MDK Motorsports Porsche 911 GT3 R. Lucas and teammate Trenton Estep used smart strategy to maintain position until Filgueiras pushed past, settling the MDK Motorsports team with fourth place.

Manny Franco and Alessandro Balzan in the No. 21 Ferrari 296 GT3 brought home a fifth-place finish. Mario Farnbacher in the No. 93 Racers Edge Motorsports Acura NSX GT3 EVO slowed on the second lap after overheating, ending Farnbacher and Ashton Harrison’s day early.

SRO America

PRO-AM Class
Verhagen in the No. 38 ST Racing BMW M4 GT3 received a penalty in qualifying that had him start from the rear of the field. He quickly moved his way back up the field to hand the car over to Tan in the third position. Tan came out of the pit lane in first after the handoff from pole-sitter Ryan Dalziel to Justin Wetherill in the No. 33 Ferrari Triarsi Competizione 296 went awry and had difficulty closing the door. She only built her lead as the race continued and was relatively unchallenged for the win.

Elliot Skeer in the No. 120 Wright Motorsports Porsche 911 GT3 R started the race fourth, but he began his attack for the lead in Turn 1 on lap one. Skeer pushed past Heylen in the PRO Class as he attempted to gain ground on Dalziel. Adam Adelson would have a similar story after he took over for Skeer, spending his race chasing Tan before taking the checkered flag in second. Third place would go to Wetherill and Dalziel in the No. 33 Triarsi Competizione 296 Ferrari.

Fourth-place finishers Geroge Kurtz and Colin Braun in the No. 04 CrowdStrike by Riley Mercedes-AMG GT3 had a quiet race with multiple seconds of gap both ahead and behind. Anthony Bartone and Adam Christodoulou in the No. 43 RealTime Racing Mercedes-AMG finished fifth after a side quest to avoid on-track drama in the rear of the field went to plan.

Ross Gunn in the No. 007 TRG Aston Martin Vantage AMR GT3 began the race fourth; however, Derek DeBoer would be spun after contact with the No. 08 DXDT Racing Mercedes-AMG GT3 of Scott Smithson. Smithson and teammate Bryan Sellers would finish behind teammates Jeff Burton and Corey Lewis in the No. 91 DXDT Racing Mercedes-AMG GT3.

The 2023 race season comes to a close at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway on Oct. 5-8. The race will be live-streamed on the GT World YouTube page.

Race two at Sebring International Raceway in the Pirelli GT4 America championship was a wild ride from start to finish, with green flag racing for the entirety of the 60-minute event providing battles for the lead across all three classes.

Conquest Racing/JMF Motorsports performed an aggressive drive to clinch the victory in Silver, with Flying Lizard Motorsports completing a perfectly executed win in the PRO-AM class, and KRUGSPEED went on to clinch the top spot in AM.

Silver Class
The Silver class wasted no time shaking things up, with pole sitter Parker Thompson immediately coming under threat in his No. 999 Hanley Motorsports Toyota GR Supra GT4 EVO by Kenton Koch in the charging No. 92 Random Vandals Racing BMW M4 GT4. Koch completed the overtake for the lead on the opening lap, but Thompson was not going to back down without a fight as he came back swinging just 15 minutes later to reclaim the lead.

As the pit window opened just prior to the halfway mark, Michai Stephens took the opportunity to come through pit lane to hand over his mighty No. 34 Conquest Racing / JMF Motorsport Mercedes-AMG GT4 to teammate Jesse Webb. The undercut allowed them to close the gap to Daniel Hanley and Kevin Boehm, creating a very tight three-way fight for the lead.

[lawrence-auto-related count=3 category=1436]

Webb moved up into second position with just over 20 minutes remaining, only to further take over the lead just a couple of minutes later. His work was far from over, as the trio fought tooth and nail lap after lap. The young Canadian kept his composure and powered his way to the finish line to wrap up the weekend with a victory.

Boehm secured his second podium of the weekend, while a late stage drive-through penalty for the No. 999 car dropped Hanley Motorsports off the podium, allowing JCD Dubets to pick up some more important points and hardware for the No. 51 Auto Technic Racing BMW M4 GT4 as he took over third place.

SRO America

PRO-AM Class
The early exit of the No. 47 NOLASPORT Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS Clubsport opened up a window of opportunity for several teams in the PRO-AM class, with Michael Cooper promoted to the lead in the No. 2 Flying Lizard Motorsports Aston Martin Vantage AMR GT4, with Eric Powell of the No. 22 TechSport Racing Nissan Z GT4 in hot pursuit.

It was a smooth transition for the frontrunners as their respective teammates took over for the second half of the race. Flying Lizard Motorsports maintained the lead of the race, with Jason Bell behind the wheel. ACI Motorsports gained a position as Curt Swearingin replaced Kay van Berlo, pushing Eric Powell in the No. 22 TechSport Racing Nissan to third following some major movements from competitors around them who were involved in some last-lap contact while fighting for the final step of the podium.

As the final 10 minutes of the race approached, TechSport Racing found themselves under threat from the No. 35 Conquest Racing Mercedes-AMG GT4 of Custodio Toledo. He gave his best effort to fend him off, but Toledo completed the pass in the final laps to take over third place. However, the Mercedes-AMG GT4 was involved in some last-lap contact while fighting for the final step of the podium, which re-instated Harrison to third.

SRO America

AM Class
Terry Borcheller moved up into the lead right from the get-go in the No. 20 Carrus Callas Raceteam Toyota GR Supra GT4 EVO, dropping Jaden Lander down one position in the No. 72 KRUGSPEED Toyota GR Supra GT4 EVO. Austin Krainz soon closed in, applying pressure in his No. 18 RS1 Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS Clubsport.

It was business as usual in the second portion of the race once the driver changes had been completed, with the running order remaining the same. However, the margins between drivers had been closed even more, with the top four in the AM class all running within a couple of seconds of each other.

It wasn’t long before there were drastic changes on track, with KRUGSPEED’s Anthony Geraci promoted to first place as Nicholas Shanny dropped out of podium position, now allowing recently-crowned championship winner Charlie Postins to insert himself into mix in the No. 36 BimmerWorld BMW M4 GT4. Postins simply couldn’t be held at bay, and further took over second place in the final minutes.

The 2023 race season comes to a close at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway on Oct. 5-8 and will be streamed on the GT World YouTube page.

In Fanatec GT World Challenge America powered by AWS, Jan Heylen and Madison Snow took home the win in the PRO Class, with teammates Elliot Skeer and Adam Adelson winning the PRO-AM Class at Sebring International Raceway. The field had the additional challenge of high temperatures alongside the bumps and technicality of the 3.741-mile, 17-turn circuit.

The grid lineup for race one saw a couple of changes before the green flag flew. After the field made its way through tech, the No. 38 ST Racing BMW M4 GT3 had its qualifying laps removed due to an infraction. With those laps removed, Madison Snow came into race one as the GT3 lap record holder for SRO Motorsports America at Sebring.

PRO Class
The PRO Class was consistent throughout the duration of the opening stints. Snow led Chandler Hull, Ashton Harrison, Seth Lucas and Manny Franco in qualifying order. Heylen in the No. 45 Wright Motorsports Porsche 911 GT3 R made no use of his rear-view mirror leading through to the checkered flag. Bill Auberlen in the No. 94 BimmerWorld BMW M4 GT3 never got the look at Heylen he was hoping for, keeping the BMW firmly in second place. The action in the PRO Class all happened from the third place back in the closing laps.

The third-place finish came together for the No. 53 MDK Motorsports Porsche 911 GT3 R of Lucas and Trenton Estep in the final minutes of the race. Estep steered clear of an incident between the No. 93 Racers Edge Motorsport Acura NSX GT3 and No. 28 RS1 Porsche 911 GT3 R. Fourth place was up in the air at the checkered flag due to a post-race penalty served to Stevan McAleer in the No. 28 RS1 Porsche 911 GT3 R after an over-correction on track put him in the side of Mario Farnbacher in the No. 93 Racers Edge Motorsport Acura NSX GT3. Fourth place would go to Farnbacher as the post-race time penalty was added to McAleer’s finishing time. McAleer inherited fifth place.

Franco and Alessandro Balzan in the No. 21 Conquest Racing Ferrari 296 GT3 had a heartbreaking early end to the race. Balzan pulled the car off course and came to a stop on the final lap of the race, settling the entry with a sixth-place finish.

SRO America

PRO-AM Class
Pole sitter George Kurtz in the No. 04 CrowdStrike Mercedes-AMG GT3 had an issue with a tire change during the pit stop, giving the lead over to Adam Adelson and Elliot Skeer in the No. 120 Wright Motorsports Porsche 911 GT3 R. Colin Braun put his head down once out of pit lane and began recovery. However, Neil Verhagen was a man on fire and elbowed his way past Braun to take over second place in the No. 38 ST Racing BMW M4 GT3. Braun would finish the race in third. Verhagen’s pass for second made for a wonderful recovery of its own. Samantha Tan had a seemingly stellar start after beginning from the rear of the field due to a drive-through penalty for an infraction during race start procedures.

The No. 007 TRG Aston Martin Vantage AMR GT3 of Derek DeBoer and Ross Gunn finished fourth. They were gifted the opportunity to advance after an incident at the start. DeBoer protected the fourth-place position before handing it over to Gunn, who kept the car clean while fighting for the podium.

The fifth-place position was captured by Bryan Sellers and Scott Smithson in the No. 08 DXDT Racing Mercedes-AMG GT3. The entry began the race in seventh, but they too capitalized on the incident on the opening lap, which included the DXDT Racing sister car.

On the opening lap of the race, Anthony Bartone in the No. 43 RealTime Racing Mercedes-AMG GT3 and Jeff Burton in the No. 91 DXDT Racing Mercedes-AMG GT3 spun together. Justin Wetherill in the No. 33 Triarsi Competizione Ferrari 296 GT3 was forced to come to a full stop before collecting Burton as his Mercedes was still perpendicular on the track when Wetherill was rounding Turn 1.

The No. 33 Triarsi Competizione Ferrari 296 GT3 of Wetherill and Ryan Dalziel finished sixth after carrying on from the hectic start. Bartone and co-driver Adam Christodoulou in the No. 43 RealTime Racing Mercedes-AMG GT3 finished eighth. Burton, with teammate Corey Lewis, fought through to finish eighth after serving a drive-through penalty for a pit lane speed violation in the No. 91 DXDT Racing Mercedes-AMG GT3.

The final race of the weekend takes place Sunday, Sept. 24 at 2 p.m., streamed on the GT World YouTube channel.

Five different Historic Sportscar Racing Run Group winners were crowned after a clean-and-green B.R.M. Chronographes Endurance Challenge one-hour race Sunday that was the feature event of the final day of competition of the season-opening HSR Spring Fling at Sebring International Raceway.

The overall B.R.M. win was secured by the ageless Travis Engen who drove his equally timeless GMT Racing 2005 No. 2 Audi R8 LMP to yet another Sebring B.R.M. Endurance race overall and Prototype group win. Engen shared the overall top-three with the duo of Francesco Melandri and Nigel Greensall 2017 No. 24 Fransco Racing Ligier JS/P3 who co-drove to second both overall and in the Prototype division.

Third overall and first in GT Modern (GTM) went to Thomas Gruber in his TAG 2016 No. 991 Porsche 991 GT3. Gruber doubled-up on HSR feature race wins at the Spring Fling and also captured the victory in Friday night’s season-opening HSR Stoner Car Care Global GT race.

Sikes grabs maiden USF2000 victory at Sebring

Third time proved to be a charm for Simon Sikes. The 22-year-old from Augusta, Ga., started his Pabst Racing Tatuus on pole position at the legendary Sebring International Raceway road course for the third successive USF2000 Presented by Cooper Tires race, and this time managed to secure his long awaited maiden victory.

Last year’s USF Juniors Presented by Cooper Tires champion Mac Clark, from Milton, Ont., Canada, made a decisive pass in the closing stages to finish second for DEForce Racing as New Zealander Jacob Douglas climbed from ninth on the grid during a dramatic race to complete the podium for Exclusive Autosport.

A separate qualifying session earlier Sunday saw Sikes claim his third Cooper Tires Pole Award, comfortably clear of new teammate Max Garcia. Points leader and Saturday race winner Lochie Hughes (Jay Howard Driver Development), from Surfers Paradise, Australia, lined up third on the grid ahead of an impressive Ethan Ho (DC Autosport), from Los Angeles, who was pulling double duty this week after also competing in the trio of USF Juniors Presented by Cooper Tires races on Thursday and Friday.

Another aggressive start from Hughes saw him challenging for the lead through Turn 1, but this time Sikes was able to cling onto his advantage. Ho slotted into third ahead of Garcia, who was then tipped into a spin at Turn 4 by fellow 14-year-old Nikita Johnson (VRD Racing), from Gulfport, Fla.

Evagoras Papasavvas (Jay Howard Driver Development), from Loveland, Ohio, also mounted an early charge, taking advantage of the incident ahead of him to challenge and then overtake Ho for third place on lap 2.

The two leaders, Sikes and Hughes, immediately began to pull clear of their pursuers, and Sikes seemed to have matters under control until the caution flags flew due to an incident on the seventh lap.

The drama began when Elliot Cox drafted alongside Papasavvas heading into Turn 1. The two rivals made contact at the exit of the corner, which coincides with a slight kink to the right at Turn 2, whereupon they locked wheels and slid sideways through the grass until rejoining the race track – still out of control – at the apex of Turn 3.

[lawrence-auto-related count=3 category=6751]

Ho miraculously avoided a major catastrophe by jinking to his right merely an instant before seemingly inevitable contact. A handful of others also took drastic evasive action, with an unfortunate Sam Corry, from Cornelius, N.C., who had been running sixth, the only major casualty as his VRD Racing Tatuus sustained suspension damage and was forced out of the race.

Hughes attacked Sikes at the restart, only to run wide at the exit of Turn 1. Hughes also inadvertently selected sixth gear, which cost him critical momentum and allowed Clark to make the pass for second at Turn 3. Clark had been the major beneficiary of the earlier fracas, rising from seventh to third.

Hughes tried his best to regain the place at Turn 7, but Clark steadfastly held the inside line, forcing the Australian to try the outside. Minor contact at the exit caused something of an accordion effect on the following short straightaway. As well as a wholesale shuffling of positions, Canadian Louka St-Jean’s optimistic attempt to capitalize ended dramatically with a harrowing end-over-end somersault for his Jay Howard Driver Development car from which he was fortunate to emerge unscathed.

Another full-course caution brought the race to a premature conclusion, with Sikes still out in front ahead of Clark and Douglas, who had nimbly passed Hughes shortly before the caution flags waved. The move enabled Douglas to clinch the Tilton Hard Charger Award.

“We started from pole, which is always where you want to be,” Sikes said after the race. “It was a tough race from the start, huge amounts of pressure off the green flag. Lochie was right there behind me, but I was slowly able to build a gap right up until that caution halfway through the race. From there, I knew it was going to be a fight on the restart. He got the outside of me going into Turn 1 and we went side by side. Luckily, I was able to come out of that out front. There was some fighting behind me and by the time I looked back, I had a six-car length gap to the cars behind me. There was a crash behind which brought out that last caution and ended the race. It is such a nice feeling to finally, after all these years, end it on top.”

Augie Pabst claimed his first PFC Award of the season as the winning car owner.

The USF2000 Presented by Cooper Tires contenders will take a short hiatus before reconvening at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Grand Prix road course for a triple-header event in conjunction with the NTT IndyCar Series on May 11-13.

Hughes fends of Sikes for USF2000 Sebring win

As with the earlier USF Pro 2000 Presented by Cooper Tires race, the third-place starter in Saturday afternoon’s USF2000 Presented by Cooper Tires contest at Sebring International Raceway stole a march on both front-row qualifiers to take a lead he was never to relinquish. This time it was Lochie Hughes, from Surfers Paradise, Australia, who translated the hole-shot into his second win of the season for the Jay Howard Driver Development team.

Simon Sikes, from Augusta, Ga., claimed the bonus points for both pole position and fastest race lap, but for the second race in succession had to settle for a second-place finish for Pabst Racing. Hughes’ teammate, Evagoras Papasavvas, from Loveland, Ohio, completed the podium in third.

Sikes continued where he left off at the Spring Training preseason test at Sebring by turning the fastest time in qualifying Saturday morning to secure his second Cooper Tires Pole Award. But an aggressive move at the first corner by Hughes also allowed a fast-starting Elliot Cox (Sarah Fisher Hartman Racing Development), from Indianapolis, Ind., to move into second place at Turn 1.

Sikes regained one position from Cox later on the opening lap, and after a red-flag stoppage to remove the cars of VRD Racing teammates Zack Ping, from Buford, Ga., and Nikita Johnson, from Gulfport, Fla., Sikes quickly homed in on Hughes to commence a protracted battle for the lead.

[lawrence-auto-related count=3 category=1428]

Sikes briefly found a way past into Turn 1 on the ninth lap, only for Hughes to regain the advantage with another strong move at Turn 17. Sikes redoubled his efforts on the 12th and final lap, drawing alongside Hughes as they raced into Turn 17, Sunset Bend, but Hughes was able to hang on and secure his second win of the year.

Papasavvas overtook Cox for the third position a couple of laps after the restart, although his hopes of challenging for the lead were dealt a blow on the seventh lap when he made a mistake in the Turn 15/16 complex of corners. Papasavvas instantly fell back into the clutches of both impressive 14-year-old debutant Max Garcia (Pabst Racing), from Coconut Grove, Fla., and Cox, who had slipped back to fifth. Cox then glimpsed an opportunity to make a move on Garcia at Turn 17, diving to the inside under braking, whereupon contact between the pair caused both cars to spin.

Last year’s USF Juniors Presented by Cooper Tires champion, Mac Clark, from Milton, Ont., Canada, was the biggest beneficiary, emerging to claim fourth for DEForce Racing.

Cox recovered to cross the finish line in fifth ahead of Chase Gardner, from Prosper, Texas, although a post-race penalty for avoidable contact later dropped Cox two positions in the final results. Gardner, who was promoted to fifth, his best finish to date for Exclusive Autosport, also took home the Tilton Hard Charger Award after rising from 13th on the grid.

Hughes’ effort ensured a second PFC Award of the season for Jay Howard as the winning car owner.

The Cooper Tires Grand Prix of Sebring will continue Sunday morning with a second qualifying session at 9:35 am EDT to establish the grid for the fourth race of the season, which is due to see the green flag at 1:40 p.m.

Myles Rowe consolidated his position at the top of the USF Pro 2000 Presented by Cooper Tires point standings following another impressive victory this afternoon at Sebring International Raceway. Rowe, from Brooklyn. N.Y., once again made a lightning start, jumping from third to first at the first corner. Even a couple of late full-course cautions failed to interrupt his dominance as he raced to his third USF Pro 2000 victory in just four starts for Pabst Racing with Force Indy.

Rowe now holds a commanding 42-point lead in his quest to win a Discount Tires Driver Advancement Scholarship valued at $664,500 to graduate to Indy NXT in 2024.

Albanian rookie Lirim Zendeli scored his best finish of second for TJ Speed Motorsports, while Kiko Porto, from Recife, Brazil, rebounded from a mechanical problem yesterday which prevented him from even starting the race, to secure his third podium appearance for DEForce Racing.

Last year’s USF2000 Presented by Cooper Tires champion, Michael d’Orlando, from Hartsdale, N.Y., looked to have put a sequence of unfortunate circumstances behind him this morning when he posted the fastest time in qualifying to claim his first Cooper Tires Pole Award. But after being beaten away from the start by Rowe, d’Orlando’s luck once again turned sour on the second lap when he lost control over the bumps in Turn 1 and gyrated luridly in front of almost the entire field. He was miraculously able to continue, despite another quick gyration at Turn 4, and eventually fought his way back to 11th at the checkered flag.

Fellow front row qualifier Francesco Pizzi, from Rome, Italy, also had a disappointing race for TJ Speed Motorsport. Pizzi lost two positions on the opening lap and later ran out of road at the exit of Turn 1, losing several more places. He placed seventh after an eventful 15-lap race.

[lawrence-auto-related count=3 category=6751]

Porto, after starting eighth, fought his way past Mexico’s Salvador de Alba (Exclusive Autosport) for third position on the fifth lap, where he remained until the finish.

Two late cautions set the scene for a one-lap dash to the checkered flag. Rowe made an exemplary restart at the first time of asking, but had to defend rigorously from Zendeli on the final lap, especially at Turn 3, but was not to be denied as he sped onward to the victory.

“It was the race of my life honestly,” Rowe said. “Now that it is all over, I have been trying to close out a weekend winning all of the races since I was 14. It’s been a long road to dominate a weekend and we finally did it today. I’m just ecstatic, my family is ecstatic, the team is ecstatic – I couldn’t be happier. It was also thrilling because it was so calm, cool and collected for 10 of the laps or so and then a full course caution came out when I had an almost 5s gap. Then here I am on the last lap defending three corners on the track to make sure I could hold my spot. Luckily, I kept my head down and we did it. I have to send a big thank-you to Pabst Racing, Force Indy, Penske Entertainment, Sparco, Bell, SimCraft and NXG – all of them. This wouldn’t be possible without them.”

De Alba looked set for fourth until, bizarrely, his car’s fire extinguisher suddenly discharged as he negotiated the tricky Turn 13 on the final lap. Reece Ushijima, directly behind, adeptly avoided the slowing Tatuus, whose driver was completely unsighted by a wave of foam, but behind him, Jace Denmark (Pabst Racing) from Scottsdale, Ariz., and Sweden’s Joel Granfors (Exclusive Autosport) weren’t so fortunate, making contact which dropped both of them far down the order.

Jackson Lee (Turn 3 Motorsport), from Avon, Ind., took advantage of the melee to jump from a solid 10th to record his first top-five finish, narrowly ahead of fellow Indianan Jack William Miller (Miller Vinatieri Motorsports) and Pizzi.

Lee’s avoidance also enabled him to claim the Tilton Hard Charger Award after having lined up 12th on the grid.

Augie Pabst picked up his third PFC Award of the young season as the winning car owner.

The USF Pro 2000 teams and drivers will return to action at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Grand Prix road course for another pair of races in conjunction with the NTT IndyCar Series on May 11-13.

The first official day of competition of the 2023 Historic Sportscar Racing season wrapped up with a rapid-fire run of three feature races at the HSR Spring Fling that produced the first five race winners of the year on the 3.74-mile Sebring International Raceway circuit.

Friday’s big winner was Fritz Seidel, who scored Porsche-class honors in Friday’s Sasco Sports International/American Challenge race and then followed it up with a victory in the HSR Classic RS Cup sprint. Seidel’s dominant day came at the wheel of the Ecurie Engineering 1974 No. 85 Porsche 911 IROC that he was racing for the first time in several seasons.

Seidel was Friday’s only repeat race winner but took the Sasco Sports checkered flag second overall behind Larry Ligas in his Predator Performance 1961 No. 61 Jaguar XKE. Ligas captured the International-class victory in addition to the overall Sasco Sports win.

Another overall victory Friday went to the TAG 2016 No. 991 Porsche 991 GT3 of Thomas Gruber who won the HSR Stoner Car Care Global GT sprint. Gruber also topped an overall field of competitors in the day’s final race that featured the Classic RS Cup opener sharing the track with the faster Stoner Car Care GT competitors.

The Sasco Sports American division victory went to Steve Piantieri, who rebounded from an early issue for a come-from-behind win in his 1965 No. 95 Ford Mustang 2+2.

Second in the Stoner Car Care race was secured by Bryan Collyer in his 2015 No. 9 Dodge Challenger GT1 with third going to debuting driver Bill Fenech in his 2018 No. 015 Porsche GT2 RS/CS. Fenech reached the podium in his first-ever race.

Second-place in RS Cup went to George Balbach in his 1966 No. 0 Porsche 911 while Lisa Hansen completed an all-Ecurie Engineering podium with a solid drive to third in her 1969 No. 110 Porsche 911 S.

Balbach also reached the Porsche podium in the Sasco Sports race in third, crossing the line just behind second-place finisher Josh Tuggle in the Heritage Motorsports 1969 No. 133 Porsche 911 RSR.

Other podium players on the day included Byron DeFoor, in the 1999 No. 129 Lotus Elise, and Hervey Parke in his 1965 No. 11 Ginetta G4, prepared by Michael’s Vintage Racing, who completed the Sasco Sports International podium in second and third, respectively.

Saturday’s HSR Spring Fling schedule is highlighted by final qualifying races for all groups followed that afternoon by the opening WeatherTech Sprint rounds. Sunday’s second and final rounds of WeatherTech Sprint races close out the HSR schedule from 11:20am ET through the final checkered flag of the weekend that afternoon around 3:20pm ET.
