The Seattle Mariners roll into the 2022 season with some rather moderate odds to win the World Series.

The M’s picked up 90 victories despite the fact they had a minus-51 run differential. For a team to be 18 games over .500 with that kind of run differential is just one of those crazy baseball stats. It won’t happen again.

The team grabbed some big-time offensive help with All-Stars Eugenio Suarez and Jesse Winker from the Cincinnati Reds for a handful of younger players and cash considerations. After coming within a whisker of the playoffs in 2021, the M’s are going for it in 2022.

Below, we look at the Seattle Mariners MLB futures odds, including their projected 2022 win total and World Series odds at Tipico Sportsbook.

Odds: +3000 (bet $100 to win $3,000)

Seattle has some questions in the lineup, as Ty France, Jarred Kelenic, Tom Murphy and Abraham Toro are expected to be regular fixtures in the lineup in the early going. While Mitch Haniger, Suarez and Winker are a good start, there are still a lot of young, unproven guys in this offensive attack. Evan White and Kyle Lewis should work their ways back from surgery at some point to add some pop and experience. Top prospect OF Julio Rodriguez has also made the team and could provide a spark.

However, if Suarez and Winker do what they’ve done in the past, while a handful of the younger players outproduce projections, this is going to be finally be a playoff team for the first time since 2001. But is this a World Series roster? Not even close.

At +3000, Seattle has an implied probability of winning the World Series of 3.23% or 30/1 fractional odds.

The Baltimore Orioles and Pittsburgh Pirates have the longest odds at +30000.

Selecting the MARINERS (+3000) to win the World Series would pay off handsomely if it were to hit, but this team simply needs to make the playoffs first. That’s not even a given in a stacked AL West with the defending American League champ Houston Astros and emerging Los Angeles Angels.

Seattle Mariners’ 2022 playoff odds

Will Mariners make the playoffs: Yes +162 | No -200

Believe it or not, the Mariners have the longest postseason drought of any major sports franchise in North America. Seattle has made a trip to the playoffs since 2001 when it won a franchise-record 116 games while scoring 927 runs with a plus-300 run differential. Those were halcyon days with the likes of Ichiro, Edgar Martinez, etc. leading the charge.

This season the team has some high expectations, but this roster doesn’t have what it might take in an ultra-competitive American League. Seattle made some nice moves in the offseason, but it still needs a lot of things to go right, and for a lot of young players to do things they have never done to even have a shot.

The best play is taking NO (-200) for the Mariners to make the playoffs. There are just too many questions.

Seattle Mariners’ 2022 win total

Over/Under: 83.5 (O: -125 | U: -110)

This is a team that won 90 games last season, doing it with mirrors. I think that Seattle is certainly capable of at least reaching that level, as the offense might be a little more potent with the additions of Suarez and Winker.

Also, this team signed reigning AL Cy Young award winner Robbie Ray. He leads a rotation with Chris Flexen and Marco Gonzalez, making for a pretty potent big three. But Matt Brash and Logan Gilbert are a couple of starters who have a lot of question marks. They could be tremendous, but they’re just not proven yet.

Still, this team will get to kick around the likes of the Oakland Athletics and Texas Rangers, and they’re much better than a .500 team. The Over/Under should have been around 88.5 or so for this assortment of talent.

Take OVER 83.5 (-125).

Odds to win AL West Division

  • Houston Astros -180 (bet $180 to win $100)
  • Los Angeles Angels +350 (bet $100 to win $350)
  • Seattle Mariners +480 (bet $100 to win $480)
  • Texas Rangers +1500 (bet $100 to win $1,500)
  • Oakland Athletics +2000 (bet $100 to win $2,000)

This team won 90 games last season and had some key moves during the offseason to make improvements. However, this team isn’t nearly as complete as the Astros, who should run away with the division.

I also do not like the M’s nearly as much as an Angels team that still has the very dangerous Mike Trout, as well as the versatile Shohei Ohtani. The M’s do not have star players like that, or anyone close to carry the team single-handedly like that dynamic duo.

PASS.

Odds to win American League

Odds: +1500 (bet $100 to win $1,500)

You have to walk first before you can run. This is a team that hasn’t made the playoffs in over 20 years. It’s still a big question whether or not this roster is constructed to snap that postseason drought, let alone make a run at a World Series.

Is this team full of good, young talent? Yes. Are there some nice offensive weapons, and an ace? Yes. Is this team better than the likes of the Boston Red Sox, Chicago White Sox, Houston Astros, Los Angeles Angels, New York Yankees, Tampa Bay Rays or Toronto Blue Jays? Well, no. That’s why they’re not likely to snap that playoff drought, and they certainly won’t be in the hunt to challenge for a World Series, at least not yet. But, the M’s are on the right path, and that’s good for baseball.

PASS.
