Sean McDonough’s muted Game 3 broadcast call had NHL fans wondering if he was sick

Was Sean McDonagh sick during ESPN’s Stanley Cup Final broadcast of Game 3 on Thursday night?

ESPN broadcaster Sean McDonough’s announcing during Game 3 of this year’s Stanley Cup Final on Thursday night sounded a bit off.

On this Florida Panthers goal, you can hear McDonough’s muted call that doesn’t carry the enthusiasm we’re typically used to when it comes to listening to the regular broadcaster.

McDonough is a pro’s pro, which is why he didn’t suddenly forget to bring his A-game to calling a championship series. It’s very possible that McDonough was under the weather and was powering through Game 3’s broadcast.

Something was off, and it’s not hard to imagine that McDonough was battling some sort of ailment with his dampened delivery on the game call.

NHL fans noticed something wasn’t right with McDonough and wondered if he had some sort of bug.

Sean McDonough used the writers’ strike to explain lack of ‘Hollywood ending’ on missed Clemson FG

There are no Hollywood endings for Clemson this week.

Sean McDonough was quick to the draw with the perfect quip about Clemson’s missed field goal against Florida State in the fourth quarter of Saturday’s big loss.

Florida State topped Clemson in overtime, 31-24, which puts Dabo Swinney’s team at 2-2 on the season. At 1:49 in the fourth quarter, Clemson kicker Jonathan Weitz had the opportunity to knock in a field goal to give the Tigers the 27-24 lead.

However, the kick missed the uprights and went sent flying to the side.

ESPN announcers McDonough and Greg McElroy provided some insight into the missed kick. McElroy said it would’ve been a Hollywood ending for Weitz to nail the field goal, as he was literally just recruited to rejoin the program after a few years at the team’s backup kicker.

Well, McDonough had the perfect response to McElroy’s idea of a Hollywood finish.

“Well, the writers are on strike,” McDonough joked in return.

Indeed, McDonough tapped into the ongoing writers’ strike to indicate that Clemson’s fourth-quarter dramatics weren’t going to make any movie magic.

Until the studios and writers can come to a fair agreement, college football teams might want to ditch the Hollywood endings and just settle for something more boring.

How to watch, listen or stream Oregon vs Georgia in season opener

Watch, listen, stream: Here’s how you can tune into one of the biggest non-conference games of 2022 as Oregon faces Georgia.

College football is upon us and we have quite a doozy for Week 1 as the No. 11 Oregon Ducks take on the No. 3 Georgia Bulldogs in the Chick-Fil-A Kickoff Game televised on ABC at 12:30 PST.

For a contest that was scheduled well in advance, those who thought this was going to be a premiere matchup couldn’t have guessed how big this game would become. Not only are the Bulldogs the defending national champs, but they’ll also be facing their former defensive coordinator Dan Lanning, who has moved 3,000 miles to become the head coach of the Oregon Ducks.
