Seahawks outlast Bears 6-3 on Thursday Night Football

When I wrote the first half recap, the score was the Seattle Seahawks leading 6-3 over the Chicago Bears before intermission. Honestly, I should have probably just called that article a “game recap” because that was all the scoring we would see the rest of the game!

The Seahawks and Bears played each other to a battle of punts and missed opportunities, but in the end Seattle held on to escape with the narrow victory. As I always say, style points do not matter in the National Football League, only wins do.

In the second half, all of Seattle’s possessions went as such:

  • Punt
  • Fumble
  • Punt
  • Punt
  • End of game

As for the Bears, it was somehow even worse:

  • Punt
  • Punt
  • Punt
  • Punt
  • Interception to end the game

While offense was certainly lacking, Mike Macdonald’s defense was stellar. I do not care who the opponent is, if you can hold the home team to only three points in an entire game, that is something special. Seattle sacked Williams seven times.

Things threatened to get spicy on Chicago’s final possession. Rookie quarterback Caleb Williams escaped pressure on fourth down (perhaps the only time he did all night long) to convert. He had driven the Bears all the way to Seattle’s 40-yard line before facing another 4th-and-10. Instead of electing to kick, Chicago went for it, and Williams’ last gasp attempt resulted in this…

Ultimately, the Seahawks improve to 9-7 and have secured their third-straight winning season. However, it will not be enough alone to make it to the playoffs. The Seahawks did their part in helping their case, but they will need the Arizona Cardinals to beat the Los Angeles Rams on Saturday.

If the Rams lose, it will mean Seattle’s Week 18 rematch with LA will be to win the NFC West. Should LA prevail, it means it will go down to strength of victory tiebreaker. It won’t be the end of the road for the Seahawks, but it will make qualifying for the playoffs considerably more difficult.

Seahawks Week 17 inactives: 6 players will not play

Seahawks Week 17 inactives: 6 players will not play vs Bears

The Seattle Seahawks are less than two hours away from kicking off against the Chicago Bears on Thursday Night Football. The inactives list for both teams have dropped, and as expected running back Kenneth Walker III will not be competing Walker was added to the injured reserve list on Thursday. Unless the Seahawks somehow find their way to the NFC Championship game, Walker’s 2024 campaign is concluded.

Joining Walker on the sideline will be a few others, such as tight end Brady Russell who has missed several weeks due to his injury. While he is inactive, quarterback Jaren Hall will be listed as an emergency third-string quarterback. Given Geno Smith’s knee injury, having a little extra insurance at the most important position in all of sports isn’t a bad idea.

On the other side of the ball, 12’s should recognize another familiar name. Running back Travis Homer for the Bears is inactive. Homer was originally drafted by the Seahawks in the 6th round of the 2019 NFL draft, and Seattle is where he spent the first four years of his career. After his rookie contract expired, Homer signed a two-year deal with Chicago in 2023.

The full inactives report from both teams can be seen below.

Seahawks Inactives:

  • CB Nehemiah Pritchett
  • TE Brady Russell
  • LB Patrick O’Connell
  • T Michael Jerrell
  • WR Cody White
  • QB Jaren Hall

Bears Inactives:

  • RB Travis Homer
  • DB Tarvarius Moore
  • OL Teven Jenkins
  • DB Elijah Hicks
  • LB Noah Sewell
  • DL Zach Pickens

The Chicago Bears will meet the Seattle Seahawks in Week 2 of the NFL Preseason on Thursday night at Lumen Field.

The Chicago Bears will meet the Seattle Seahawks in Week 2 of the NFL Preseason on Thursday night at Lumen Field.

The Bears are coming off a 19-14 win over the Chiefs in week one of the preseason with Trevor Siemian leading the way with two touchdowns. I would imagine we would see a little more of Justin Fields tonight as they look to bring the offense in game two. Meanwhile, the Seahawks put up 25 points and 339 yards against the Steelers with Drew Lock and Geno Smith still battling it out for the starting QB position. Seattle will be without Lock as Geno Smith will get the majority of the reps.
