These Seahawks are not quite who we thought they were. Heading into the 2023 NFL campaign we projected an 11-6 record during the regular season. Early on it became clear that they had the potential to reach that mark. At midseason they were 5-2 and looked like they could at least compete with the brutal strech of opponents that began in Week 9 against the Ravens. As it turned out, this team was indeed talented but also severely mismanaged, fundamentally flawed and nowhere near as good as Super Bowl contenders like Baltimore and the division rival 49ers.

Along the way, the team lost several other games that they could have won – including a back-breaking defeat at the hands of the Los Angeles Rams, an unlucky finish against the Cowboys and a brutally embarrassing failure against the Steelers last week. Penalties, poor tackling and questionable coaching decisions plagued the team at different times throughout the season, resulting in a disappointing 9-8 finish and missing out on the playoffs for just the fourth time in the Pete Carroll era.

Don’t laugh too hard – because the rigged NFL storyline is a relatively popular idea with Seahawks fans. The data comes from BetOnline.AG, which shows they have the fifth-highest percentage of tweets about it.

There’s a lot to unpack here, from the comical entitlement of Cowboys fans, to the fact that the Rams literally won the Super Bowl the previous year. Perhaps the biggest takeaway is that Jets fans have suffered enough to know that a loss is a loss.

Seahawks fans respond to Richard Sherman’s recent comments on his podcast

Among other things, Sherman suggested that the 12s need to lower their expectations.

Richard Sherman is indisputably the greatest cornerback in Seahawks history. His tight coverage and superb ball skills helped make Seattle the best defense of the modern era and his contributions were a major reason why the team made it to two consecutive Super Bowls.

Sherman is also a highly controversial figure who’s never afraid to speak his mind, no matter who it might offend. He was in rare form on his most recent podcast when he made some derogatory comments about Seahawks fans while chatting with Cliff Avril. Among other things, Sherman suggested that the 12s need to lower their expectations.

“These fans had never won anything before we got here. They had never won anything. They went to the Super Bowl in ’06 and were happy to be there, and that was their biggest claim. And then we get there, we win a Super Bowl, we spoiled them with historic defense and then all of a sudden that’s their expectation. . . You should lower your expectation substantially. … They were talking about getting rid of us and they were like, ‘We got replacements. We got LOB 2.0. And then you got rid of us and then you realize you don’t. You realize we were once in a generation talent and you should have kept it and appreciated it when you had it.”
