Tennessee victorious at LSU, 51-0, in rugby.

Tennessee (2-1) defeated LSU, 51-0, in rugby on Friday.

The Vols entered the contest coming off a 67-0 win at Kennesaw State. Tennessee’s victory at Kennesaw State was the first under head coach Scott Tungay.

Tennessee lost its first game under Tungay, 12-10, against Ohio State.

Tennessee entered its contest with the Buckeyes having not lost a game in 15s competition since Nov. 23, 2019.

Tungay replaced Marty Bradley who served as the Vols’ head coach from 2011-22. He served as Tennessee’s assistant from 1996-2010 under Butch Robertson.

Bradley guided the Vols to a national championship in 2021. Tennessee (11-0) outscored its opponents, 373-127, and recorded three shutouts during the 2021 national championship season.

Tennessee (1-1) defeated Kennesaw State, 67-0, Saturday at Kennesaw State Rugby Pitch in Marietta, Georgia.

The victory is Tennessee’s first under head coach Scott Tungay.

Tennessee next plays at LSU Oct. 7 (7 p.m. EDT).

The Vols’ next home game is Oct. 14 against Alabama at Tennessee Rugby Park. Kickoff between Tennessee and Alabama is slated for 8 p.m. EDT.

Tennessee announces team captains ahead of the Ohio State game.

No. 17 Tennessee (0-0) will kick off its regular-season schedule Saturday at Tennessee Rugby Park against No. 6 Ohio State (1-0).

Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m. EDT.

Ohio State opened its 2022 regular season on Sept. 2, defeating No. 18 Notre Dame, 39-14.

Ahead of Saturday’s top 25 contest, Tennessee announced its 2022 team captains. Greg Giangiulio and Josh Shetler were named captains for the 2022 season.

Tennessee enters regular-season play having not lost a game in 15s competition since Nov. 23, 2019. Tennessee won the 2021 USA Rugby Division I national championship.

Tennessee announces Scott Tungay as the Vols’ rugby head coach.

Tennessee announced its new head coach Friday.

Scott Tungay will serve as the Vols’ head coach in 2022.

The University of Tennessee Men’s Rugby Club and the Volunteer Rugby Foundation are pleased to announce the appointment of Scott Tungay as the Head Coach of the Men’s Rugby Team. Tungay joins the Volunteers after serving 6 years (2016-2021) as a coach with the University of Kentucky, where he was instrumental in leading the Wildcats to back-to-back Southeastern Conference Championships (2017 and 2018).

Scott is native of Pietermaritzburg, South Africa, where he played in the Midlands Rugby Academy system and served time as a high school coach with Maritzburg College while completing his World Rugby Level 2 Coaching Certification.

As the Tennessee Head Coach, Tungay will be responsible for the recruitment and development of student athletes and providing leadership and direction during training and matches. He will be assisted by a team of experienced volunteer coaches and reports to the Director of Rugby.

“We are extremely excited to have Scott join our program as the Head Coach. He brings proven success in recruiting and coaching collegiate rugby and we can’t wait to get him on campus,” said Marty Bradley, Director of Rugby for the Volunteers.

The Head Coach is a contract employee of the University of Tennessee with institutional supervision provided by the Assistant Director of RecSports. Additionally, the Volunteer Rugby Foundation provides full allowance and reimbursement for coaching related expenses.

Once the university contracts are complete, Scott and his wife Kelli will relocate to Knoxville where he will immediately assume the reins of the Rugby Vols as they kick off the 2022 Fall season.
