Nebraska’s ground game sparks first victory of the season

Nebraska records its first win of the 2022 season!

Nebraska notched the first win of the 2022 season as the Cornhuskers defeated their guests, the North Dakota Fightin’ Hawks, 38 to 17 on Saturday afternoon at Memorial Stadium. Anthony Grant led the way for the offense with 189 yards on 23 carries for two TDs and a long of 46 yards. Ajay Allen helped in the running attack by carrying the ball 11 times for 58 yards and one touchdown with a long of 14. No other Husker was in positive rushing yards. Casey Thompson was 14 of 21 passing for the afternoon with 193 yards, two TDs, and one INT. The most telling quote after the game was from head coach Scott Frost who said, “this team can be a great team. It’s not right now. That was my message to them.” If anyone thought that the coaching staff would allow the team to relax after their first win of the season, it’s clear Frost sent a muted message that there’s still work to do. And now the grind for Week 3’s preparation begins.

Scott Frost makes weekly media appearance

The Husker head coach talked about last week’s game and the home opener in Lincoln this Saturday.

Nebraska head football coach Scott Frost met with the media on Tuesday afternoon. During his weekly media availability, Frost talked about the disappointment in last Saturday’s loss to Northwestern, how the defense can fix their issue with missed tackles, and his comment regarding more creativity from the offense.

Starting Quarterback Casey Thompson also spoke with the media on Tuesday. During his time with the media, the man under center talked about the lack of run game on Saturday, why the offense struggled in the fourth quarter, and a personal call to the fans to not give up on this team, saying they have their best football still to play.

The most interesting press conference moment came at its close when Thompson, who transferred from Texas to Nebraska, asked the media to no longer ask him questions about his time in Texas. Thompson said too much has been made of his recent comments regarding the Longhorn program, and to avoid distractions, he asked that the media no longer ask him questions regarding his Texas career.

Scott Frost talks to media one last time before kickoff

The Week 0 kickoff is just days away!

Nebraska Football coach Scott Frost spoke to the media one last time before the Huskers kickoff their 2022 season against the Northwestern Wildcats. The Nebraska head football coach spent time discussing the team’s travel to Ireland, how they’ve acclimated to their new surroundings, the plans for playcalling, and what the head coach will do on the sidelines on Saturday now that he won’t be calling plays.

That, to me, has always been one of the more important topics of conversation surrounding this team. How does a head coach that used to call plays adapt to no longer having that authority? Frost’s former head coach Tom Osborne once said that he needed to call plays in order to be the best head coach he could be, and that is no longer a luxury the current Nebraska coach has, and Mark Whipple is now the play-caller. Frost also confirmed that Whipple will be on the sideline and defensive coordinator Erik Chinander will be up in the booth.
