Legalization of sports betting was put up for a vote by committee members in 2019, but they struck down SB 153 by a 14-6 margin. In addition, there were several amendments requested in the legislature, but ultimately the groups could not agree on taxation.

Democrat Governor John Bel Edwards reportedly supports legalized sports gambling, but the state legislature is currently a majority Republican, so that’s another obstacle. There are plenty of casinos in the state of Louisiana where you can play table games, slot machines, etc. …, including in the popular New Orleans area. However, sports betting remains an issue for another time.
