Iowa football set to host FCS freshman All-American

The Iowa Hawkeyes have a defensive transfer portal visitor lined up.

The Iowa Hawkeyes will be welcoming in FCS freshman All-American defensive back Sascha Garcia in short order.

According to Sean Bock of HawkeyeInsider with 247Sports, the former William & Mary cornerback will visit Iowa next week. Garcia also reported an offer from the Hawkeyes on Thursday night.

Garcia just finished up a visit to Wisconsin and he has also received offers from programs such as Maryland, Cincinnati, Syracuse, Wake Forest, West Virginia and Virginia Tech.

As a redshirt freshman in 2024, Garcia broke up 11 passes, tallied 19 tackles and blocked one kick. The 6-foot-2, 185 pound defensive back will have three seasons of collegiate eligibility remaining at his next stop.

A native of Clinton, Md., Garcia appeared in four games before redshirting in the 2023 season.

The Hawkeyes are returning cornerbacks TJ Hall, Jaylen Watson, Deshaun Lee, John Nestor and Rashad Godfrey.

Iowa continues to find reinforcements for its program out of the NCAA transfer portal. 247Sports’ Chris Hummer reported on Wednesday that Northern Illinois wide receiver Cam Thompson will be visiting Iowa on Jan. 9-10.

In this transfer portal cycle, Iowa has added former Auburn quarterback Hank Brown and former Central Michigan defensive lineman Jonah Pace entering the 2025 college football season.

Wisconsin in pursuit of FCS All-American transfer cornerback

Wisconsin in pursuit of FCS transfer cornerback

Wisconsin extended an offer to William & Mary transfer cornerback Sascha Garcia on Sunday.

The Badgers are looking to bolster a cornerback room that lost significant depth to the transfer portal this month, in addition to projected starter Xavier Lucas (pending a resolution of the current situation). The room is the program’s biggest need at this stage of the transfer process.

Garcia entered the portal after two seasons at William & Mary. He redshirted in 2023 before playing in 14 games in 2024, totaling 19 total tackles (14 solo) and 11 pass deflections. That output was enough to earn Football Championship Subdivision Freshman All-American honors.

Wisconsin is contending with reported offers from Maryland, Cincinnati, UMass, Western Kentucky, Eastern Carolina, Sacramento State, Utah State and Akron.

Garcia would instantly add impressive depth to the Badgers’ cornerback room, if not a day-one starting option. He is in the portal with three years of eligibility remaining.

Wisconsin added outside linebacker John Pius from William & Mary last offseason. While Pius did not reach expectations atop the Badgers’ linebacker depth chart in 2024, the team doesn’t appear hesitant to keep pursuing the program’s top transfers.
