Kentucky Women’s Basketball Comes Back to Beat Mississippi State

The Kentucky women’s basketball team pulled off a big comeback against Mississippi State on Thursday.

The Kentucky women’s basketball team hasn’t had a ton to cheer for this season, sitting at 11-16 currently. However, a thrilling comeback on Thursday against the Mississippi State Bulldogs sealed a very good win for the Wildcats.

With just over six minutes left to play in the game, the Bulldogs were leading the Wildcats 68-59 and it looked like they might finish them off. Kentucky then went on a 19-0 run to close out the game and give themselves the 78-68 win. Kentucky forced nine turnovers in the fourth quarter alone, which helped spur on the comeback.

Saniah Tyler had a big game, leading the Wildcats with 22 points, and going six of eight from three-point range. Ajae Petty followed that with yet another double-double, adding in 20 points and 12 rebounds. Maddie Scherr added in a well-rounded 11 points, seven assists and six rebounds as well.

Mississippi State led the game 35-34 at the half, before coming out strong in the third quarter, stretching their lead to nine at the start of the fourth. The Bulldogs would get it to 68-59 before the Wildcats went on their 19-0 run to close the game and get the win.

Kentucky plays undefeated juggernaut South Carolina next. The Wildcats look to carry their momentum over into that game. The game takes place Saturday, February 24th, at 3 p.m. EST at Rupp Arena. The game can be seen on the SEC Network.
