Vikings lose another assistant coach

The Vikings have now lost six assistants so far this year

The Minnesota Vikings had some coaches earlier this offseason requested for interviews with all of them coming on the offensive side of the football. None of them resulted in new positions for them, but they have lost multiple assistant coaches since then.

Per NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, the Cardinals took the Vikings sixth assistant coach in hiring assistant linebackers coach Sam Siefkes to be their linebackers coach.

The Vikings had already lost five coaches prior to Siefkes accepting the job with the Cardinals.

  • Assistant quarterbacks coach Jerrod Johnson-Houston Texans
  • Defensive coordinator Ed Donatell-Terminated
  • Inside linebackers coach Greg Manusky-Terminated
  • Defensive line assistant A’lique Terry-Oregon Ducks
  • Assistant special teams coordinator Ben Kotwica-Denver Broncos

Siefkes joined the Vikings in 2021 as a quality control coach before getting promoted to assistant linebackers coach with new head coach Kevin O’Connell.

Expect new defensive coordinator Brian Flores to continue building up his staff with his own guys.

Vikings’ Sam Siefkes to be hired as Cardinals’ LB coach

Siefkes has been in the NFL coaching for the last two seasons. He replaced Nick Rallis on Minnesota’s staff when Rallis went to Philly.

The Arizona Cardinals have added another young coach to their coaching staff. According to multiple reports, the Cardinals are hiring Minnesota Vikings assistant linebackers coach to be their linebackers coach.

He was with the Vikings for two seasons. In 2021, he was defensive quality control coach and then was promoted to assistant linebackers coach last season.

It was his first NFL coaching gig.

Previously, he was defensive coordinator and linebackers coach for Wofford College 2018-2020, defensive coordinator for UW-Platteville in 2016-2017 and a graduate assistant defensive coach in 2015 for Wisconsin.

Siefkes replaced Cardinals defensive coordinator Nick Rallis in Minnesota when he joined Cardinals head coach Jonathan Gannon in Philadelphia. Rallis became linebackers coach and Gannon the defensive coordinator there.

Vikings hire Sam Siefkes as a defensive quality control coach

The Minnesota Vikings have made another change to its coaching staff: Sam Siefkes, who was hired as a defensive quality control coach.

Minnesota lost a defensive quality control coach this offseason. Nick Rallis, a Minnesota native who coached the linebackers, left to become the linebackers coach of the Eagles.

Now, the Vikings had added a coach to the staff who should help fill at least some of the void that Rallis left. The team hired Sam Siefkes to be a defensive quality control coach,

“Siefkes was formerly the defensive coordinator and inside linebackers coach at Wofford (2018-20) and defensive coordinator for UW-Platteville (2016-17),” the Vikings said on Twitter.

Despite all the official additions the Vikings made today, the team has some more work to do to fill all the departures on its staff and front office. Minnesota did not renew the contract of defensive assistant Dom Capers. There’s also assistant GM George Paton, who left to become the GM of the Broncos. And that’s just to name a few. The team will have to make at least several hires official to lock in its full staff.
