Sal Sunseri speaks on Chance Main’s sudden departure from CU Buffs

Defensive tackles coach Sal Sunseri was asked about Chance Main leaving the #cubuffs

The Colorado Buffaloes football team was stunned after Chance Main left the program and ended up at Texas State this week. Main was a returning player from last year’s team. He entered the portal following the Deion Sanders hire only to end up recommitting to the Buffs.

Now, with the season a week out, Main decided to leave and play elsewhere.

Defensive tackles coach Sal Sunseri opened up on Main’s decision and gave an honest comment (h/t Nikki Edwards of CUSportsReport):

“He just decided he didn’t want to play football (here) anymore, so you know I can’t help that,” Sunseri said after practice on Thursday. “If he doesn’t want to play, doesn’t want to play.”

It certainly was a shocking turn of events with Main, and for it to happen this late in the summer is another surprise. But, maybe the playing time wasn’t there, although it could’ve been a multitude of things.

Nonetheless, Main has ended up at Texas State.

Former Alabama assistant Sal Sunseri reportedly joining Deion Sanders’ Colorado staff

Coach Prime has reportedly found his new defensive tackles coach

Colorado Buffaloes head coach Deion Sanders keeps on adding big names to the staff. This time, Coach Prime is adding former Alabama special assistant Sal Sunseri to the mix as the team’s new defensive tackles coach, according to Brian Howell of BuffZone.

Things changed earlier this week as Patrick Hill, who was previously brought in to be the Buffs’ DT coach, took a job in the NFL with the Minnesota Vikings. Hill had previously been with LSU as an analyst, but the lure of moving to the NFL was tough for him to pass up. Then, the Buffs moved quickly and reportedly brought in Sunseri.

Sunseri has coached on four national title teams — three at Alabama and one at Florida State — so he brings a championship pedigree to a rejuvenated staff and roster in Boulder.

Sunseri spent two different stints with Alabama and was a defensive coordinator at Tennessee before, so his resume is impressive. He was in an off-the-field role with Nick Saban last year, and now he gets to move to one of the up-and-coming coaching staffs that features a ton of big names, including former Alabama assistant Charles Kelly as the team’s DC.

Alabama assistant Sal Sunseri emerges as the ‘expected hire’ to become Colorado’s DL Coach

Sal Sunseri has served as the linebackers coach and special assistant to head coach Nick Saban. He could be in line to become Colorado’s defensive line coach.

Alabama assistant Sal Sunseri has emerged as the ‘expected hire’ to become Colorado‘s next defensive line coach, according to a recent tweet from On3’s Matt Zenitz. Sunseri served as a special assistant to head coach Nick Saban this past season.

Sunseri has coached at both the college and professional level. During his 37 years as an assistant coach, Sunseri has been defensive line coach for only eight of them. He coached the Carolina Panthers defensive line from 2002-2008. He also served as Florida‘s defensive line coach in 2018.

If he chose to accept the job, he would become the second Alabama assistant to join Deion Sanders’ staff at Colorado. In December, Alabama safeties coach Charles Kelly accepted the defensive coordinator position at Colorado.

Roll Tide Wire will continue to follow the Alabama football program.
