Kings at Trail Blazers picks and predictions

Prediction

Kings 121, Trail Blazers 105

Moneyline

PASS.

A -1300 road favorite makes no sense to play as it is far too expensive. The Blazers have shut down superstar G Damian Lillard, so there is little chance they pull off the upset.

Against the spread

LEAN KINGS -14.5 (-110).

Sacramento has covered 5 of its last 9 games and is locked into a playoff spot. It is 2 games behind Memphis for the No. 2 seed. Sacramento is the No. 1 ATS team on the road, posting a 24-13 record away from home.

The Blazers are just 18-21 ATS at home this season. The Blazers also don’t have the scoring to compete with Sacramento, as they showed on Wednesday. Considering the season-long trends, back the KINGS -14.5 (-110).

Over/Under

BET UNDER 231.5 (-110).

The Kings have gone Under in 3 straight games. They rank 7th in turnover rate, so once easily up, the Kings should be able to take care of the ball and get deep into the shot clock.

The Trail Blazers have also gone Under in 3 straight games and in 4 of their last 6. They have failed to hit 100 in 3 of their last 4 games. The scoring just isn’t there for Portland, and it will continue to face that issue this season.

Ultimately, considering the lack of scoring Portland has and the tempo the Kings should want to play, take the UNDER 231.5 (-110).

Sacramento Kings at Portland Trail Blazers odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Wednesday’s Sacramento Kings at Portland Trail Blazers odds and lines, with NBA expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Sacramento Kings (45-30) visit the Portland Trail Blazers (32-43) Wednesday at Moda Center. Tip is scheduled for 10 p.m. ET (NBA TV). Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook’s lines around the Kings vs. Trail Blazers odds, and make our expert NBA picks and predictions.

The Kings were tripped up 119-115 at home against the Minnesota Timberwolves Monday night as 5.5-point favorites while the Under (239.5) cashed. Sacramento is on a 1-4 against the spread (ATS) skid.

The Trail Blazers were hammered 124-90 at home against the visiting New Orleans Pelicans Monday, not even coming close to covering as 11.5-point underdogs as the Under (227) easily connected. Portland is on a 2-6 ATS slide, and it has won just once straight up (SU) in the past 10 outings.

The last time these teams met in Sacramento, the Kings won 133-116 as a 10.5-point favorite at Golden 1 Center on Feb. 23 as the Over (234) hit.

Kings at Trail Blazers picks and predictions

Prediction

Kings 129, Trail Blazers 110

Moneyline

The Kings (-1000) should roll out of the Rose City with a double-digit road win, as the Trail Blazers (+700) are a rudderles ship right now, especially with Dame on the shelf for the rest of the season.

Still, you can’t risk 10 times your potential return on a road team, or really, any time.

PASS.

Against the spread

The KINGS -14.5 (-112) are the play, although double-digit favorites on the road come with risk.

The Trail Blazers +14.5 (-108) have so many key parts either sidelined, or unlikely to play, and it laid a total egg last time out. Expect more of the same.

Portland is just 1-6 ATS in the last 7 games at home, while going 4-16-1 ATS in the last 21 against teams with a winning overall record.

Over/Under

Side with the OVER 236.5 (-112).

It’s about the Over for the Kings lately, going 16-7-1 in the past 24 games overall, while going 8-3-1 in the previous 12 outings on the road. The Over is also 8-3-1 in the last 12 when playing on a day of rest, too.

For the Blazers, the Over has connected in 12 of the last 17 games against winning teams, while going 5-2 in the last 7 after losing by 10 or more points in the previous outing.

Sacramento Kings at Portland Trail Blazers odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Sunday’s Sacramento Kings at Portland Trail Blazers odds and lines, with NBA expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Sacramento Kings (16-25) travel to Moda Center Sunday to take on the Portland Trail Blazers (14-24). Tip-off is scheduled for 9 p.m. ET. Below, we look at the Kings vs. Trail Blazers odds and lines, and make our expert NBA picks, predictions and bets.

The Kings have failed to cover 3 straight games and are just 3-7 ATS over their last 10. It’s been almost entirely on their defense as they’ve failed to cover despite scoring over 110 in 2 of their last 3.

Led by G De’Aaron Fox, the Kings averaged the 12th-most points per game yet give up the 28th-most. However, they’ll get a short-handed Blazers without their two best scorers.

Blazers G Anfernee Simons has been huge for Portland as of late, and, as a whole, they’re 12-11 at home and 2-13 on the road. Portland has covered just once in their last 7.

Kings at Trail Blazers odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Kings 115, Trail Blazers 110

Money line

BET on the KINGS -108.

The Kings have both the size to deal with Jusuf Nurkic and the speed and defense to limit Simmons. My biggest concern in the game is the Blazers’ disastrous three-point defense.

They rank 30th in opponents’ three-point field goal percentage. With the Kings having elite snipers like G Buddy Hield, G Tyrese Haliburton and Fox, they should be able to get easy open looks.

The Blazers have an atrocious defense, and with the Kings a top-tier offense also with a lacking defense, I’ll take the side with the more lethal scoring options.

Against the spread

PASS.

The money line is virtually a pick ’em, and I’d rather bet on that than the juiced Kings spread.

Over/Under

“LEAN” to the OVER 224.5 (-108). It’s just a lean because I don’t love betting totals this high, and Unders have been the more hit side this season, but these defenses are just too bad to bet on.

The Blazers are last in opponents’ shooting percentage, and the Kings aren’t far behind at 27th. With Simmons averaging 28.3 points per game over his last 3, the Blazers should have the weapons to put it on the Kings as well.

Also, there’s reverse-line movement as 71% of the money, per pregame.com, is on the Under yet the total is getting higher. Expect points to rain in on this one.

Sacramento Kings at Portland Trail Blazers odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Wednesday’s Sacramento Kings at Portland Trail Blazers odds and lines, with NBA expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Sacramento Kings visit the Portland Trail Blazers as the teams open their seasons Wednesday night. Tip-off is scheduled for 10 p.m. ET at Moda Center. Below, we look at the Kings vs. Trail Blazers odds and lines, and make our expert NBA picks, predictions and bets.

The Kings were 31-41 last season for the second consecutive year and finished 12th in the Western Conference. They added big men C Tristan Thompson and C Alex Len in the offseason and drafted PG Davion Mitchell ninth overall. Luke Walton is in his third season as their head coach. They are led by G De’Aaron Fox, who averaged 25.2 points per game last season.

The Blazers open a new era with Chauncey Billups as head coach as they try to get over the hump of just making the playoffs. They lost in the first round in six games to the Denver Nuggets as the sixth seed in the Western Conference last year. PG Damien Lillard is still the main man as he enters his 10th season with the club.

Kings at Trail Blazers odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Trail Blazers 121, Kings 114

Money line

The Kings were only 15-21 last season on the road, while the Blazers were 21-18 at home. Portland won all three meetings last season.

The Kings are still an up-and-coming team, while the Blazers are still considered playoff-bound as the new season begins.

Until we see the Kings be significantly better than in years past, go with the home team.

Take the TRAIL BLAZERS (-210).

Against the spread

The Blazers were 40-38 ATS last year, including the playoffs, while the Kings were 34-37-1 ATS. The Blazers were 16-23 ATS at home and the Kings were 21-15 ATS on the road.

With fans back in the building, the energy will be high.

LEAN TRAIL BLAZERS -5.5 (-107).

Over/Under

The Blazers had one of the league’s best offenses last season as they ranked fifth in the league with 116.1 points per game. The Kings averaged 113.7 points per game, but were last in the league in defensive rating.

53.2% if the Blazers’ games last season went Over the projected total, while exactly 50% of the Kings’ did.

I don’t expect the Kings to be significantly better defensively than last season right away and the Blazers still have one of the most explosive scorers in the league in Lillard. I expect a high-scoring affair to open the year.

Take OVER 232.5 (-108).

Kings at Trail Blazers: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Trail Blazers 126, Kings, 117

Money line (ML)

PASS on the money line since Portland should win but the Trail Blazer’ -190 price-point is too rich for an NBA regular-season money line favorite.

Pending final injury reports, I wouldn’t hate putting the Trail Blazers’ money line in a parlay with the Denver Nuggets for a plus-money payout, straight up? PASS.

Play our new free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Against the spread (ATS)

According to CleaningTheGlass.com, the Trail Blazers abuse bad defenses: Portland has a 9-2 record with a plus-5.1 spread differential in games against teams in the bottom-10 in defensive efficiency.

The Trail Blazers perform even better in games with no rest and are 3-0 with a plus-11.8 spread differential vs. bottom-10 defenses in the second half of a back-to-back.

Conversely, the Kings are 1-4 overall with a minus-6.2 spread differential in games with no rest against teams ranked in the top 10 of offensive efficiency.

Finally, despite Sacramento eking out a win last night against the Los Angeles Lakers, the Kings are still 2-5 ATS against division opponents with the NBA’s worst ATS margin in that spot at minus-9.8.

Unless the Trail Blazers have already gone on their All-Star break, Portland should roll a Sacramento team that could be flipping into tank mode shortly. BET the TRAIL BLAZERS -4.5 (-110) for 1 unit.

Over/Under (O/U)

I said this yesterday, and it cashed, but the market cannot adjust to how terrible Sacramento’s defense is.

Yet another Kings game went Over last night and Sacramento couldn’t stop a Lakers team without LeBron James and Anthony Davis. Somehow the Kings have only the second-highest percentage of Overs in the Association, but 10 of their last 11 games have gone Over the total.

Also, the assigned officiating crew loves high-scoring games apparently because they have a combined 41-23 O/U record this season.

TAKE OVER 237.5 (-110) for 1 unit only because nearly 90% of the market is backing the Over, according to Pregame.com, and we all know 90% of bettors don’t beat the House very often.
