Bellator 250 video: Sabah Homasi flattens Bobby Voelker with nasty flying knee

Sabah Homasi delivered arguably the greatest highlight of his career when he stopped Bobby Voelker at Bellator 250.

[autotag]Sabah Homasi[/autotag] gave another strong performance in his second Bellator fight with a brutal knockout of [autotag]Bobby Voelker[/autotag] on Thursday at Bellator 250.

Homasi (15-8 MMA, 3-0 BMMA) delivered arguably the greatest highlight of his career when he flattened Voelker (33-14 MMA, 0-1 BMMA) with a perfectly placed flying knee for the knockout just 20 seconds into the second round of their welterweight matchup. The fight took place at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn., and streamed on MMA Junkie prior to the main card on CBS Sports Network.

Prior to the knockout, Homasi was working Voelker over with all sorts of strikes in the first round. He changed the tone in the second, going upstairs with the knee to shut the lights off.

Watch the video above.

With the win, Homasi is now 3-0 since he came back to Bellator in November 2018. He’s beaten Voelker, Curtis Millender and Micah Terrill in that stretch.

Voelker, meanwhile, was unsuccessful in his Bellator debut.

Sabah Homasi dedicates Bellator 243 victory to people of Lebanon

Sabah Homasi dedicated his win over Curtis Millender to those affected in this week’s tragedy in Lebanon.

UNCASVILLE, Conn. — [autotag]Sabah Homasi[/autotag] went through Bellator 243 fight week with a heavy heart, as the Lebanese-American competitor learned of the explosion which killed nearly 150 people and injured thousands in the Middle Eastern country’s capital of Beirut.

But he also used it as motivation. Homasi (14-8 MMA, 3-2 BMMA), who still has family over in Lebanon, fired on all cylinders in his main card catchweight matchup against Curtis Millender as he earned a unanimous decision victory with scores of 29-28 across the board.

After the bout, Homasi dedicated the victory to the people of his family’s homeland as they put the pieces back together following the devastating events of the last few days.

“For all the people in Lebanon, this victory was for you,” Homasi told reporters, including MMA Junkie. “The (expletive) tragedy that happened over there, you know? And I’m just happy my family is safe and I’m sorry for all the people who did lose loved ones or got affected by it.”

[lawrence-related id=435728,542506,542511]

The 31-year old American Top Team welterweight has now won three consecutive fights, and feels like he’s just reaching the point where he’s getting his game together.

“I’ve been in this sport a very long time and, as I’m getting older, I’m putting it together, said Homasi, who indicated he’d like to fight Paul Daley next. “In the beginning of my career, I wouldn’t say I was my record was (expletive). I had a rough road in the beginning. I have the physical ability, I just wasn’t putting it together properly. I reached a certain age where it just clicked for me. Everything just changed.”

Homasi said he plans on auctioning off his fight kit through Dustin Poirier’s “Good Fight Foundation,” with proceeds going toward Lebanon’s recovery efforts.

Bellator 243 was held at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn. It aired on Paramount and streamed on DAZN following prelims on MMA Junkie.

Bellator is back in Connecticut this week with a pair of former lightweight champions atop the bill.

Bellator 243 takes place Friday at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn. The main card airs on Paramount following prelims on MMA Junkie.

(Click here to open a PDF of the staff picks grid in a separate window.)

In the main event, former Bellator lightweight champ [autotag]Michael Chandler[/autotag] (20-5 MMA, 17-5 BMMA) takes on ex-UFC and WEC champ [autotag]Benson Henderson[/autotag] (28-8 MMA, 5-3 BMMA). Chandler is more than a 2-1 favorite in the fight, and he’s got the support of a whopping 12 of our 14 editors, writers, videographers and radio hosts in the picks.

In the co-main event, [autotag]Timothy Johnson[/autotag] (13-6 MMA, 1-2 BMMA) will go after his second Bellator heavyweight win on the heels of his upset of 9-1 favorite Tyrell Fortune in February. This time, he’s just a slight underdog against [autotag]Matt Mitrione[/autotag] (13-7 MMA, 4-2 BMMA), but it’s Mitrione with a big 11-3 picks lead.

Also on the main card, [autotag]Myles Jury[/autotag] (18-5 MMA, 1-1 BMMA) is a big favorite against [autotag]Georgi Karakhanyan[/autotag] (29-10-1 MMA, 7-8 BMMA) in their lightweight bout, and he’s got a 10-3 picks lead.

And to open the main card, [autotag]Sabah Homasi[/autotag] (13-8 MMA, 2-2 BMMA) will try to upset [autotag]Curtis Millender[/autotag] (18-5 MMA, 3-2 BMMA) at welterweight. Millender nearly is a 3-1 favorite, and hes got a heavy 11-2 lead in the picks.

In the MMA Junkie reader consensus picks, Chandler (62 percent), Mitrione (79 percent), Jury (83 percent) and Millender (88 percent) are the choices.

Bellator 243’s Sabah Homasi relieved to learn relatives safe in Beirut explosion

Secure in the knowledge relatives in Lebanon are safe, Sabah Homasi is able to re-focus his attention on his fight with Curtis Millender.

UNCASVILLE, Conn. — People all over the world were shocked and saddened to learn of Tuesday’s explosion in Lebanon’s capitol, Beirut.

As of Wednesday night, the official death toll was 135 and thousands more were injured in the blast, for which the cause is still being investigated.

While the loss of human life is hard to fathom, the biggest impact is on those who have friends and family in the region. Included among those are Bellator welterweight [autotag]Sabah Homasi[/autotag], who competes against Curtis Millender on the main card of Bellator 243 on Friday.

Homasi (13-8 MMA, 2-2 BMMA) is an American Top Team competitor of Lebanese-American background, born in New Jersey. He still has family back in Beirut, and as soon as he heard the news, he made sure to call home.

“It was sad, but frightening at the same time because I have family there,” Homasi told MMA Junkie at Wednesday’s Bellator 243 media day. “So I called my parents because I wasn’t sure if they heard from family or not overseas and they, they touched base with them and everyone’s safe so, all that matters is that they’re home, so, yeah, that was about it.”

[lawrence-related id=541797,540258,539966]

With that, Homasi had some peace of mind, and was able to refocus his attention on the bout with Millender (18-5 MMA, 3-2 BMMA). Homasi brings a two-fight win streak into the matchup against a fellow former UFC competitor.

Appraised of Millender’s comments that he believe he has a speed advantage, Homasi scoffed.

“His speed is going to be superior, he said?” Homasi said. “I got an answer for everything, so we’ll see how that plays out on his part. I’ve got power in my my shots. Doesn’t matter what I hit him with, it’s going to hurt him.”

Despite his focus on the fights, Homasi’s thoughts are never too far from his countrymen.

“I’m just going to represent for my country,” he said. “That’s something that definitely means a lot.”

Bellator 243 takes place Friday at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn. The main card airs on Paramount following prelims on MMA Junkie.

Paul Daley warns Sabah Homasi: Sign to fight again, and there’s nothing that will save you

Paul Daley and Sabah Homasi may have not competed this past Friday, but that doesn’t mean they can’t keep things heated.

[autotag]Paul Daley[/autotag] and [autotag]Sabah Homasi[/autotag] may not have gotten to fight this past Friday, but that doesn’t mean they can’t keep things heated.

Bellator 241, that was set to take place at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn., was canceled just hours prior to the event, a decision Bellator president Scott Coker took for everyone’s health and safety amid the global COVID-19 pandemic.

With the show postponed, Daley (42-17-2 MMA, 8-4 BMMA) took to Instagram to taunt Homasi (13-8 MMA, 3-2 BMMA), telling him that there’s no more escaping. The two were first scheduled to fight in October, before a colon infection forced Homasi out.

Instead, Daley faced veteran Saad Awad at Bellator 232, taking him out in the second round.

“1st time, you didn’t show up @saadmma had to take the beating for you, 2nd time a global pandemic put a stop to the show….We sign this fight again….3rd time round, there is nothing that will save you.”

It didn’t take long for Homasi to fire back, who vows to test Daley’s chin when they fight. Homasi made quick work of  Micah Terrill in his return to Bellator last August, knocking him out in just 17 seconds.

“Listen up you old ass ninja turtle looking fuck @semtex170 .. this is the last time I respond to you via social media. I’ll let you do what you do best and that’s run your big ass mouth.. I’ll save my energy for when it comes down to when that cage door locks. Make sure you don’t Come up with a sorry ass excuse either on why you can’t make weight. Make the contracted weight or cough up 20%. Ps: make sure you hire @boltwrestling because you will need him. Once my right hand connects to your ninja turtle lookin chin you will try to grab my legs like you did with @michaelvenompage.”

Bellator is back in Connecticut this week for the continuation of its ongoing featherweight tournament.

Bellator 241 takes place Friday at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn. The main card streams on DAZN following prelims on MMA Junkie.

(Click here to open a PDF of the staff picks grid in a separate window.)

In the main event, featherweight and lightweight champion [autotag]Patricio Freire[/autotag] (30-4 MMA, 18-4 BMMA) puts his 145-pound title on the line against challenger [autotag]Pedro Carvalho[/autotag] (11-3 MMA, 4-0 BMMA) in the quarterfinals of the grand prix. “Pitbull” Freire is a big 10-1 favorite from the oddsmakers, and he pitched a shutout from our 14 MMA Junkie editors, writers, radio hosts and videographers.

The co-main event is another quarterfinal fight in the tournament, and the winner will move on to face the Freire-Carvalho winner in what will be a semifinal bout that doubles as a title fight. [autotag]Emmanuel Sanchez[/autotag] (19-4 MMA, 11-3 BMMA) is a slight favorite against [autotag]Daniel Weichel[/autotag] (40-11 MMA, 9-3 BMMA) in a rematch of a fight Weichel won in 2016. But this time, it’s Sanchez with a 10-4 lead in the picks.

Also on the main card, [autotag]Ronny Markes[/autotag] (19-7 MMA, 0-0 BMMA) takes on late replacement [autotag]Matt Mitrione[/autotag] (13-7 MMA, 4-2 BMMA) in a heavyweight bout. Markes was supposed to fight Josh Barnett in a fight rescheduled from December, but Barnett was pulled from the event. Mitrione is the favorite at around -170, but our pickers have it split right down the middle at 7-7.

[autotag]Paul Daley[/autotag] (42-17-2 MMA, 8-4 BMMA) is a 4-1 favorite in his welterweight fight against [autotag]Sabah Homasi[/autotag] (13-8 MMA, 2-2 BMMA), and the picks reflect that. Only one picker is taking Homasi in an upset, giving Daley a whopping 13-1 edge.

[autotag]Nick Newell[/autotag] (16-3 MMA, 1-1 BMMA) will try to rebound from his first Bellator loss with another fight in his home state when he takes on [autotag]Zach Zane[/autotag] (14-9 MMA, 1-0 BMMA) at lightweight. Newell is more than a 2-1 favorite, and he’s our second unanimous pick.

And to open the main card, [autotag]Anatoly Tokov[/autotag] (29-2 MMA, 5-0 BMMA) is a massive 12-1 favorite against [autotag]Fabio Aguiar[/autotag] (17-1 MMA, 0-0 BMMA), who is making his Bellator debut at middleweight. Only one picker is taking Aguiar in what would be a big upset.

In the MMA Junkie reader consensus picks, Freire (69 percent), Sanchez (61 percent), Mitrione (77 percent), Daley (92 percent), Newell (70 percent) and Tokov (84 percent) are the choices.

Check out all the picks above.
