Former Sooner Qunicee Lilio transfers to South Carolina

Former Oklahoma utility player Quincee Lilio has transferred to South Carolina.

It’s the offseason in the world of college softball, and that means the transfer portal is heating up.

After [autotag]Patty Gasso[/autotag] and the Oklahoma Sooners won national championship number eight and completed the four-peat, there was expected to be plenty of roster movement.

So far, two of the three former Sooners who entered the portal had found homes in the [autotag]SEC[/autotag]. Infielder [autotag]Avery Hodge[/autotag] went to LSU and pitcher [autotag]S.J. Geurin[/autotag] transferred to Auburn.

Now, the third OU player in the portal has also found a new home in the Southeastern Conference.

Utility player [autotag]Quincee Lilio[/autotag] will be transferring to South Carolina. Justin McLeod of D1 Softball broke the news on social media.

Lilio made 31 plate appearances in 2024, hitting .129 with five RBIs, 10 walks and six strikeouts. She played second base and outfield in 2023, appearing in a total of 47 contests for the Sooners, starting 12 games. As a redshirt freshman, she hit .275 with one home run and had nine RBIs.

Gasso and the OU staff have also been busy making additions in the portal. [autotag]Isabela Emerling[/autotag], [autotag]Abby Dayton[/autotag] and [autotag]Ailana Agbayani[/autotag] have all joined the roster since the season ended.

Former Sooners pitcher S.J. Geurin lands with the Auburn Tigers

Former Sooners pitcher S.J. Geurin announces decision to transfer to the Auburn Tigers.

It’s an offseason of turnover for the Oklahoma Sooners. They lost 10 seniors to graduation and three players to the [autotag]transfer portal[/autotag]. For the second day in a row, a former Sooner has found their new home.

After Avery Hodge shared that she was heading to the LSU Tigers on Friday, pitcher [autotag]S.J. Geurin[/autotag] is heading to the SEC to join the Auburn Tigers.

After redshirting in 2023, Geurin appeared in nine games and recorded a 0.70 ERA. In 10 innings, she allowed an opponent’s batting average of .118 with nine strikeouts and three walks allowed.

Coming out of high school, Geurin was ranked the No. 7 pitcher in the class of 2022 by Extra Inning Softball and the No. 20 player overall.

She joins an Auburn squad that finished 29-21-1 and ninth in the SEC in 2024 with a 9-15 conference record. They were eighth in the SEC in team ERA.

The Tigers were eliminated in the Tallahassee regional in the regional final. Before taking their second loss to Florida State, Auburn had to work their way through the loser’s bracket following their loss to UCF in the opener.

Quincee Lilio is the other Sooner yet to make a portal decision at this stage of the offseason.

Oklahoma added catcher Isabela Emerling from North Carolina on Friday night.

Trio of Oklahoma softball players enter the transfer portal

The Sooners need to replace three players after losing them to the transfer portal.

The Oklahoma Sooners are fresh off victory in the Women’s College World Series final, winning their fourth NCAA national championship in row. It’s championship No. 8 overall for the program, all in the 21st century.

But, heavy is the head that wears the crown. OU had three players depart via the [autotag]transfer portal[/autotag] on Monday.

D1softball’s Justin McLeod posted on social media that [autotag]Avery Hodge[/autotag], [autotag]Quincee Lilio[/autotag] and [autotag]S.J. Geurin[/autotag] will test the portal waters.

Hodge is the most surprising of the departures and the biggest loss of the three. The infielder stepped up when her role increased in the [autotag]Women’s College World Series[/autotag]. She is a career .278 hitter in 114 games and 97 at-bats.

Lilio is another loss in the infield, owning a .211 batting average in her career. She’s mostly played in a utility role, coming off the bench in pinch-hit situations. In 88 games, Lilio has just 71 at-bats.

Geurin is the first pitcher to depart the team. She pitched 10 innings in 2024 after a redshirt season in 2023.

While roster turnover is expected every year, the offseason is just beginning in college softball. [autotag]Patty Gasso[/autotag] will no doubt seek to improve the champs via the [autotag]transfer portal[/autotag] to chase ring No. 9. It’s likely the Sooners will be active in the portal, but they are adding eight true freshmen this fall as part of the 2024 signing class.

Oklahoma Sooners earn top 25 win over Mississippi State Bulldogs 9-3

The Oklahoma Sooners extended their winning streak with a big win over the Mississippi State Bulldogs.

The Oklahoma Sooners are out in California for the [autotag]Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic[/autotag]. And the first day of action in Cathedral City proved to live up to the hype.

In their first matchup of the evening, the Mississippi State Bulldogs fired the first salvo with a two-run home run in the top of the first inning from Jessie Blaine. But their first inning lead was shortlived as Sooners catcher Kinzie Hansen tied it up with a two-run home run of her own.

Oklahoma starter [autotag]Nicole May[/autotag] ran into some more trouble in the second inning against a very good Bulldogs lineup. Sierra Sacco gave Mississippi State the 3-2 lead on a single with two outs in the inning.

As they did in the bottom of the first, the Sooners answered right back in the bottom of the second.

True freshman [autotag]Ella Parker[/autotag] singled to lead off the inning and with one out, Avery Hodge’s infield single put runners on first and second for [autotag]Rylie Boone[/autotag]. Boone proceeded to give the Sooners the lead with a two-run double to right field.

In the bottom of the third, Parker tacked onto the Sooners lead, driving in Alyssa Brito to give OU a 5-3 lead.

The Sooners added two more runs to their lead in the bottom of the fourth. [autotag]Jayda Coleman[/autotag] drew a one-out walk and [autotag]Tiare Jennings[/autotag] doubled to bring her home for a 6-3 lead. The Sooners kept the pressure on with [autotag]Alyssa Brito[/autotag] singling to bring home Jennings to put Oklahoma in a commanding 7-3 lead.

After May walked the lead-off hitter on four pitchers to start the fifth, Patty Gasso brought in [autotag]S.J. Geurin[/autotag], who retired the next three Bulldogs hitters to get out of the inning.

Oklahoma didn’t slow down their offensive onslaught, adding two more runs in the bottom of the fifth.

After surrendering a one-out walk and a fielder’s choice, Gasso turned to [autotag]Kelly Maxwell[/autotag]. Maxwell came in and got the final out of the inning.

Things got interesting in the bottom of the seventh as Maxwell surrendered a pair of walks, but she also struck out the side to close out the Sooners win.

May threw four innings, surrendering three runs on seven hits and three walks. She also had four strikeouts in the game and earned her fourth win of the season. It wasn’t a clean performance, but she battled and was able to get out of some tough situations.

Jayda Coleman, Tiare Jennings, Alyssa Brito, and Ella Parker each had two hits, and six different Sooners recorded an RBI in the top 25 win over Mississippi State.
