The Kansas City Royals (11-18) continue their interleague series with the St. Louis Cardinals (10-8) Tuesday at Busch Stadium for an 8:15 p.m. ET first pitch. We analyze the Royals-Cardinals MLB betting odds and lines, with betting advice and tips around the matchup.

Royals at Cardinals: Projected starting pitchers

RHP Matt Harvey vs. RHP Adam Wainwright

Harvey makes his second start after allowing three earned runs, four hits and two walks with four strikeouts in just three innings of a loss against his former employer, the Cincinnati Reds, Wednesday.

  • Harvey served up a pair of homers in his initial outing with the Royals, and he needed 54 pitches.
  • The good news is Harvey’s velocity was solid, and he tossed 10 first-pitch strikes to the 15 batters he faced.

Wainwright has turned in an impressive 2-0 record, 2.00 ERA and 0.833 WHIP with 12 strikeouts across his three starts and 18 innings.

  • Waino ranks 10th in the league in ERA, and he has allowed two or fewer runs in each of his three outings to date.
  • Wainwright has allowed just one home run in his 18 innings so far this season, and just two other extra-base hits (two doubles) out of the 11 hits yielded so far.

Prediction

Cardinals 8, Royals 2

Moneyline (ML)

The Cardinals (-189) are the chalk, and they’re a little too expensive for my taste. Just look to the run line instead. AVOID.

New to sports betting? A $10 bet on the Cardinals (-189) to win straight up nets a return of just $5.30 if they prevail.

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

The CARDINALS (-1.5, +105) are plus-money on the run line. They easily won and covered last night in a 9-3 rout of the Royals (+1.5, -125). Harvey is very hittable, too, and he’ll still be knocking off the rust in what will be only his second start. The Royals have lost four in a row against their interleague intra-state rivals, and it will be five in a row after the dust settles Tuesday.

Over/Under (O/U)

OVER 9.5 (-110) is a little high with a pitcher of Wainwright’s caliber in the game, but Harvey is very giving and the Cardinals will pile up the runs early. Still, don’t go crazy and only make a small-unit wager.

The Under is actually 17-8-3 in the past 28 meetings at Busch, so you’ll be going against the grain a little bit.
