Grading Day: Washington’s final rookie report-cards for 2020 season

Washington had yet another impressive class of rookies who contributed on the field in 2020, and a lot of them received passing grades for the year.

Keeping up with the recent encouraging trend that we’ve seen in Washington over the past several years, there was yet another solid rookie class in 2020 that provided starting-caliber players that contributed a huge role to the burgundy and gold’s eventual playoff berth.

In years past we’ve seen rookies like Terry McLaurin, and Daron Payne, and Jonathan Allen play some big roles in their first year in the NFL, and that trend continued this year with the 2020 class of players that was headlined by a potential Defensive Rookie of the Year candidate.

We may be satisfied with their work, but how excited are we for their futures? Here are our final 2020 rookie grades for Washington.

Chase Young’s mother is an incredibly tough grader of talent and production

Chase Young has done everything asked of him so far, but he says his mom gave him a C+ grade because he doesn’t yet lead the league in sacks.

In our midseason grades for the Washington rookies in 2020, we offered up an A- for defensive end Chase Young, who has been an incredibly dominant force on the edge so far this season after being drafted with the No. 2 overall pick earlier this year.

Part of our reasoning for giving Young such a high grade was due to his ability to make a difference that goes beyond putting up numbers on the stat sheet. Though he only has 2.5 sacks this season, Young is often found in the backfield creating pressure on the QB and disrupting the running game. Despite this, the young star’s mother tends to be a harsher grader than we are…

Sometimes the ones that you love the most are your toughest critics, huh? While it’s fair to wish for more stats and sacks from Young, those will absolutely come as time goes on. Ron Rivera remarked earlier this week that there are a ton of things that Young does right, and he is well on his way to becoming a dominant force in this league. Also, if you were to ask NFL legend Von Miller, sacks tend to come in bunches, so there could be a nice stretch of games on the way.

He may not lead the league in sacks by the time the 2020 season is over, but he’s already done enough to show us that Washington absolutely should have zero regrets in spending the No. 2 overall pick on him in last year’s draft. Young will be around for the long-haul, and his dominance with continue to grow.

Grading the rookies in Washington at the halfway point of the 2020 season

With half of their rookie season behind them, we handed out grades to the young players in Washington who are starting out their careers.

With seven weeks of the 2020 season in the rearview mirror, it feels like a good time to take stock of the season and reflect on what we’ve seen thus far. For the Washington Football Team, things started out with a bang after a thrilling comeback victory over the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 1, but it’s been a frustrating watch ever since, minus the blowout win over the Dallas Cowboys last weekend.

Fortunately for Washington, the young players on the team have been performing pretty well for the most part, and it seems to be yet another successful draft class that was put together in 2020. Here are our grades for the rookies class so far this season.
