Lakers announce hiring of assistants David Fizdale, John Lucas III, two more to training staff

The Los Angeles Lakers announced the hiring of two assistant coaches and two training staff coaches, including David Fizdale.

The Los Angeles Lakers announced Wednesday the hiring of David Fizdale, John Lucas III, Roger Sancho and Ed Streit, who got a promotion, to the coaching staff.

Fizdale, a former head coach, will be an assistant coach with an end-of-the-bench role on Frank Vogel’s staff. The deal with Fizdale was initially reported earlier in the summer after Jason Kidd departed for the Dallas Mavericks, but it is now official.

Lucas III was initially reported earlier in the month, and he is expected to have a role with player development and is an experienced voice in the locker room. His father said Lucas III has a long relationship with LeBron James.

Sancho comes in to be the head athletic trainer for the team, an area of struggle for the Lakers last season as injuries piled up towards the latter half of the year. Sancho recently spent the last seven seasons with the Golden State Warriors, with the last five coming as an assistant athletic trainer.

Streit promotes to the head strength and conditioning coach after being an assistant in that role since 2019-20.
