Report: Rodions Kurucs’ court case administratively adjourned

Brooklyn Nets forward Rodions Kurucs’ court case for misdemeanor assault has been put on hold for the time being.

On September 3, prior to the start of the 2019-20 NBA season, Brooklyn Nets forward Rodions Kurucs was arrested at his apartment in Brooklyn for allegedly choking his girlfriend. It was reported the incident happened on June 27.

Kurucs has made multiple appearances in court for the misdemeanor assault case.

But now the Nets forward’s case is being on hold amidst the novel coronavirus outbreak in the U.S. Brian Lewis of the New York Post is reporting the case was administratively adjourned. A new date “will eventually be set.”

Kurucs appeared in 39 games for the Nets this season and 10 with Brooklyn’s G League affiliate, the Long Island Nets.

As a rookie in 2018-19, Kurucs only played in 4 games for Long Island while appearing in 64 contests for Brooklyn, of which he was featured in the starting lineup 46 times.

No surgery date set for Kyrie Irving, Wilson Chandler out vs. Wizards

With Wilson Chandler out against the Wizards, the Brooklyn Nets may need some help from Rodions Kurucs.

The Brooklyn Nets will be without one of their top reserves for Wednesday’s game in Washington D.C. against the Wizards. Wilson Chandler has been ruled out due to personal reasons, though Kenny Atkinson told reporters in Washington that he does not expect the forward to be out long term.

On Tuesday, Rodions Kurucs was recalled from the Long Island Nets, Brooklyn’s G League affiliate. Given Chandler is out for the Nets’ game on Wednesday, Kurucs could receive a decent amount of minutes.

Additionally, Atkinson informed reporters in Washington that Brooklyn’s star point guard, Kyrie Irving, has yet to establish a surgery date, per Alex Schiffer of The Athletic.

Nets general manager Sean Marks ruled Irving out for the remainder of the 2019-20 season on February 20, right before Brooklyn’s first game after the All-Star break. Marks expressed Irving will receive arthroscopic surgery, but the point guard still had things he needed to look into.

Wilson Chandler questionable vs. Wizards, Rodions Kurucs recalled by Nets

The Brooklyn Nets have a long list of players who won’t be available against the Wizards. Wilson Chandler’s availability is up in the air.

The Brooklyn Nets have a long list of players who won’t be available for Wednesday’s game against the Wizards in Washington D.C.

Of course, Kevin Durant, (right Achilles rehab) and Kyrie Irving (right shoulder impingement) are both unavailable.

Nic Claxton and Dzanan Musa are both on assignment with Brooklyn’s G League affiliate, the Long Island Nets — who play again on Thursday at 7 p.m. against the Erie Bayhawks, the New Orleans Pelicans’ G League affiliate. Therefore, neither Claxton nor Musa will be available against the Wizards.

Wilson Chandler’s availability for Brooklyn’s game is Washington D.C. is up in the air, as well. The team has listed the forward as questionable for Wednesday’s game due to personal reasons.

One player who was not included in the Nets status report for their game against the Wizards was Rodions Kurucs. The forward has been recalled by Brooklyn after being on assignment with Long Island for Monday’s game.

Rodions Kurucs assigned to G League, among long list of unavailable Nets vs. Magic

Rodions Kurucs hasn’t played much for the Brooklyn Nets of late. He’s about to get a lot more time with the Long Island Nets.

On Saturday, Rodions Kurucs made his first appearance in a game on the Brooklyn Nets’ behalf since February 5. On Sunday, the Nets elected to assign the forward to their G League affiliate, the Long Island Nets.

Subsequently, Kurucs will not be available for Brooklyn’s game against the Orlando Magic on Monday. Dzanan Musa and Nic Claxton also won’t be available for Monday’s game at Barclays Center. They are on assignment with Long Island, as is two-way player Jeremiah Martin.

Kurucs has played in nine games for Long Island this season. He’s averaging 10.4 points per game on 47.6% shooting while logging 26.4 minutes a night. Kurucs is also averaging 5.9 rebounds, 3.2 assists and one steal per game at the G League level.

For Brooklyn, Kurucs has appeared in 33 games. He’s averaging 4.6 points per game on 48.7% shooting, while playing 12.9 minutes per appearance.

Report: At least two teams are interested in Rodions Kurucs as trade target

Rodions Kurucs could be on the move before the 2020 NBA Trade Deadline.

The 2020 NBA Trade Deadline (February 6) is right around the corner.

Right now, the Brooklyn Nets aren’t playing like a title contender, nor do many expect them to do so without their best player, Kevin Durant — who is not expected to play in 2019-20, though he is progressing well with the rehabilitation of his surgically repaired right Achilles.

If Brooklyn’s front office is of the same mind as Kyrie Irving and feels a move or two needs to be made to complement the Nets’ two superstars, then there are players on the 2019-20 roster who will be heading elsewhere at some point.

One of those players could be forward Rodions Kurucs.

He has not played a significant role for the Nets this year, which could be a sign he’s no longer part of the team’s future plans. With other teams knocking, as Bobby Marks of ESPN reports, it may be in Brooklyn’s best interest to maximize on the opportunity while Kurucs has a market.

According to Marks, there are at least two teams interested in Kurucs.

Both organizations decided “to conduct a full background check,” given the forward was arrested for domestic violence charges.

Caris LeVert helps Nets snap skid with 117-113 win over Heat

Spencer Dinwiddie and Caris LeVert made some big plays for the Brooklyn Nets to end the team’s losing streak with a win over the Miami Heat.

Caris LeVert didn’t have his best shooting performance on Friday, but he was there when the Brooklyn Nets needed him most.

With the Nets down six points with 3:38 to go, LeVert knocked down one of his three 3-point makes. Two and a half minutes later, with Brooklyn trailing 111-109, the guard drilled another look from deep after he shook Miami sharpshooter Duncan Robinson, giving the Nets the lead.

From there, Brooklyn never looked back. In the process of defeating the Heat 117-113, the Nets also snapped their seven-game losing streak,

Among those happy to see the skid end was Spencer Dinwiddie, as he expressed to Michael Grady on YES Network after the win:

Thank God we broke that streak, man. It was getting rough out here, I’m not gonna lie to you.

LeVert finished with 11 points on 4-for-15 shooting (3-for-9 from deep). He also had four assists and three rebounds in his 24 minutes off the bench.

Dinwiddie logged a career-high 14 assists throughout his 26-point performance, in which he went 10-for-19 from the field (2-for-6 from the perimeter).

The surprising performance of the night for Brooklyn definitely came from Rodions Kurucs, who made the start with Garrett Temple out.

Kurucs exploded offensively in the first quarter and went on to finish Friday’s game with 19 points to his name. The forward went 7-for-9 from the floor (4-for-5 from deep).

Jarrett Allen was back on track, as well. He logged a double-double, grabbing 11 rebounds to go with his 11 points. DeAndre Jordan also grabbed double-digit rebounds (10).

Joe Harris (1-for-5) and Taurean Prince (1-for-10) couldn’t find their stroke from three, but found other ways to make an impact.

Prince was actually perfect inside the arc. He made each of the seven shots he took from two, en route to a 17-point performance.

Meanwhile, Harris only scored nine points, but he had seven rebounds, including a big one late in the game off of a missed 3-pointer from Prince.

Last but not least, Timothe Luwawu-Cabarrot scored 10 points on 4-for-6 shooting.

Nets gift wrap game for Knicks, lose 94-82

Spencer Dinwiddie scored plenty of points on Thursday, but he and his Brooklyn Nets teammates weren’t efficient against the New York Knicks.

On Thursday, the Brooklyn Nets had as ugly of a loss as they’ve had all season. The offense simply was not there, which made for a relatively easy night for the New York Knicks.

In the third game of the 2019-20 season series between New York’s two basketball teams, Brooklyn’s crosstown rival earned their first win over the Nets with the 94-82 finish.

Even Spencer Dinwiddie, who scored 25 points, wasn’t at his best. He went 5-for-15 from the floor (3-for-9 from 3-point territory) and went 12-for-17 at the free-throw line (70.6%). He did have eight rebounds, but the point guard also turned the ball over five times.

No other Net finished in double figures. Joe Harris, DeAndre Jordan and Rodions Kurucs finished second on the team in scoring with eight points apiece.

As a team, Brooklyn shot 26.9% from the floor and 26.0% from 3-point territory. After a first half in which Brooklyn didn’t knock down shots on back-to-back possessions once, the Nets didn’t log their first field goal until there was 3:52 left in the third quarter.

Nets lose 110-102 to Pascal Siakam, Raptors

The Brooklyn Nets were unable to finish off their big battle north of the border against the reigning NBA champs.

The Brooklyn Nets had their first shot at the 2019 NBA champion Toronto Raptors on Saturday. Unfortunately for Spencer Dinwiddie and company, Pascal Siakam and his teammates proved to be too much, as the Raptors won 110-102.

Siakam scored a game-high 30 points for the Raptors, with 25 coming in the first half. Brooklyn held him to two baskets on 12 attempts in the second half, but Serge Ibaka scored 10 points between the final two quarters and Norman Powell had 16.

For the Nets, four of the five starters finished with 10 or more points. The one outlier was Jarrett Allen, though he grabbed 10 rebounds, thus extending his streak of games with 10 or more rebounds to 10.

Dinwiddie led the charge with 24 points. He has scored 20 or more points in 12 of the 14 contests in which Kyrie Irving has been absent. He also logged eight assists in the loss

Garrett Temple finished with 16 points, Taurean Prince had 14 and Joe Harris scored 13.

Harris’s lone made 3-pointer (on six attempts) was the 486th of his Nets career. He surpassed Deron Williams on the franchise’s all-time 3-pointers made list.

Prince also had 10 rebounds, logging his fifth double-double of the season in the process. He only had five double-doubles between his last two seasons combined.

David Nwaba had another strong offensive showing off the bench. He scored 10 on 4 of 8 shooting (2-for-4 from three).

DeAndre Jordan led the Nets with 13 rebounds. Rodions Kurucs saw a surge in minutes (17:57) and finished with seven rebounds.

Nic Claxton, Rodions Kurucs recalled by Nets

Nic Claxton injured his hamstring on Monday while with the Long Island Nets. He can now receive the necessary treatment in Brooklyn.

The Nets sent both Nic Claxton and Rodions Kurucs to Long Island on Monday to play for Brooklyn’s G League team against Raptors 905. The Long Island Nets wound up losing 106-95 and are now last in the G League’s Eastern Conference with a 2-10 record.

While Rodions Kurucs had a solid showing (14 points on 6-for-7 shooting and five rebounds), things didn’t go as well for Nic Claxton.

Not because the rookie played poorly. He just wasn’t able to see the floor much because he suffered a hamstring injury.

On Monday, Brooklyn announced both Claxton and Kurucs had been recalled from their assignment with Long Island.

Long Island gets back to work on Wednesday at 11 a.m. as the Nets play host to the Westchester Knicks.

Nic Claxton assigned to Long Island with Rodions Kurucs

Nic Claxton hasn’t seen game action since before Thanksgiving. He’ll finally get the chance to play on Monday in the G League.

At the start of the season, it looked like Nic Claxton was going to spend a good portion of the 2019-20 season with Brooklyn’s G League affiliate, the Long Island Nets. But DeAndre Jordan’s ankle injury on November 4 presented the rookie with the chance to contribute at the NBA level, putting off any possible assignment to the G League.

Claxton took full advantage of the opportunity at first, but his role has diminished as Jarrett Allen has continued to dominate down low, Jordan has found his groove and others are taking care of business at the four. As a result, Claxton hasn’t played since the Nets lost in Boston to the Celtics on Thanksgiving Eve.

While there’s some value in learning from his teammates in Brooklyn, the rookie needs reps. This is why Brooklyn assigned Claxton to Long Island on Monday, ahead of their game against Raptors 905.

Rodions Kurucs has been assigned to Long Island, as well.
