Colorado Rockies at Seattle Mariners odds, picks and best bets

Previewing Sunday’s Colorado Rockies vs. Seattle Mariners sports betting odds and lines, with MLB betting picks, tips and best bets.

The Colorado Rockies (11-3) and Seattle Mariners (5-11) will close out a weekend set at 4:10 p.m. ET Sunday afternoon at T-Mobile Park. We analyze the Rockies-Mariners betting odds and lines, with MLB picks and best bets.

Rockies at Mariners: Projected starting pitchers

RHP German Marquez vs. LHP Justus Sheffield

Marquez has filed a 1.89 ERA over 3 starts and 19 total innings. The Colorado right-hander has been pounding the strike zone (73% first-pitch strikes) en route to fanning 10.9 batters per nine.

  • The 25-year-old owns a fine 3.21 ERA over 219 road innings since 2018. That includes solid road tilts at the Oakland Athletics and Texas Rangers earlier this season. Marquez has only pitched at T-Mobile once before (6 IP, 1 ER, 0 BB, 5 SO).

Sheffield has struggled through two short-leash starts. He has walked six batters over 7 2/3 IP and has a 9.39 ERA. In 2019, the left-hander had a 36-inning 5.50 ERA at the major league level.

  • Sheffield is a groundball pitcher, and that plays into a Colorado deficit. In 2019, the Rockies were a top-10 club against fly-ball types and a bottom-5 group against pitchers who induce more grounders. The latter figure has been flipped so far in 2020 but with the aid of a .441 batting average with balls in play.

Moneyline (ML)

The Rockies (-154) have looked sharp thus far. They’ve won three straight games and six of their last seven. Colorado has taken the first two games of this weekend series and away from Denver, the Rockies have won six in a row.

And now? They are drawing an inflated price. In the concept of “cluster luck” (stringing together hits and walks in bunches to do the most damage), no team has been more off-kilter than this Seattle squad. Give a slight nod to the MARINERS (+140) price for this interleague matchup in Emerald City.

New to sports betting? A $10 bet on the Mariners to win returns a profit of $15.

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

MARINERS +1.5 (-121) is a decent play. Seattle has lost seven of its last eight games, but the Mariners offense has been hamstrung by a silly-low BABIP.

Over/Under (O/U)

The figure here is a fair one, but perhaps shade the UNDER 8.5 (-110) unless that price starts to creep up.

Colorado Rockies at Seattle Mariners odds, picks and best bets

Previewing Saturday’s Colorado Rockies at Seattle Mariners sports betting odds and lines, with MLB betting picks, tips and best bets.

The Colorado Rockies (10-3) play the Seattle Mariners (5-10) in the second of a three-game set Saturday at T-Mobile Park for a 9:10 p.m. ET first pitch. We analyze the Rockies-Mariners MLB betting odds and lines, with picks and best bets.

Rockies at Mariners: Projected starting pitchers

RHP Ryan Castellani vs. LHP Nick Margevicius

Castellani will make his MLB debut as he fills in for injured SP Chi Chi Gonzalez. Castellani was called up despite struggling at the lower levels, posting a 28-43 record with a 4.80 ERA in six minor-league seasons.

Margevicius is also filling in for an injured starter —SP Kendall Graveman. Margevicius has made three appearances so far in 2020, pitching five innings with a 5.40 ERA and striking out five. The 24-year-old has made 17 career appearances, including 12 starts, and has a 2-6 record and 6.68 ERA.

Prediction

Rockies 11, Mariners 7

Moneyline (ML)

The Rockies (+100), who enter with a half-game lead in the NL West, have won 10 of their last 12 games. The Mariners (-112) have struggled out of the gate and are at the bottom of the AL West. Seattle is a slight favorite here because the sports betting market has a little more faith in its replacement starter over Colorado’s.

However, Colorado is first in runs scored per game, second in batting average and third in OPS. It is going against a Seattle pitching staff that ranks last in runs allowed, 26th in opponent’s OPS and 29th in homers given up.

BET THE ROCKIES (+100).

New to sports betting? A $100 bet on the Rockies to win returns a profit of $100 if Colorado beats Seattle.

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

We are passing on the Rockies (-1, +120) run line and TAKING ROCKIES -1.5 (+145) on the alternate run line.

Colorado has crushed Margevicius in the past. It is slashing .511/.531/.915 in 47 at-bats against Margevicius. Also, Seattle’s bullpen ranks bottom 10 in ERA, opponent’s WHIP and batting average.

If the Rockies chase Margevicius early, the Mariners cannot expect much out of the bullpen. Additionally, Colorado has the best run line record in MLB (10-3) with a +2.5-run line margin.

Over/Under (O/U)

Seattle actually cashes more Overs (9-5-1 Over/Under record) than Colorado (4-8-1). Again, it’s because the Mariners’ pitching staff is getting shelled, so we are betting that the Rockies shell the M’s Saturday.

I am nervous that the market is on the Under (-121), but I still “LIKE” OVER 9.5 (+100), so I’m only putting a half-unit wager on it.

A $50 bet on Over 9.5 yields a $50 profit if the total score gets into double-digits.

Colorado Rockies at Seattle Mariners odds, picks and best bets

Previewing Friday’s Colorado Rockies vs. Seattle Mariners sports betting odds and lines, with MLB betting picks, tips and best bets.

The Colorado Rockies (9-3) and Seattle Mariners (5-9) kick off a three-game interleague series at T-Mobile Park Friday with a 9:40 p.m. ET first pitch. We analyze the Rockies-Mariners betting odds and lines, with MLB picks and best bets.

Rockies at Mariners: Projected starting pitchers

RHP Antonio Senzatela vs. LHP Yusei Kikuchi

Senzatela has been sharp for the surprising Rockies, posting a 2-0 record, 2.45 ERA, 1.27 WHIP. He hasn’t allowed a home run across 11 innings over two starts.

  • Senzatela has kept the ball in the yard and been sharp, but it also helps to get offensive support. The Rockies are 2-0 in his two starts, and they have scored 8.5 runs per game in his outings.
  • The Colorado righty threw 57 of his 86 pitches for strikes last time out, despite just 13 first-pitch strikes to 23 batters.

Also see: BaseballHQ Fantasy Baseball

Kikuchi has not factored into the decision in either of his two starts to date, posting a 4.66 ERA, 13 strikeouts and a 1.35 WHIP.

  • Kikuchi was roughed up in his initial outing in Houston on July 26, but he tossed six scoreless innings with just three hits, one walk and nine strikeouts against the Oakland Athletics last time out (Aug. 1).
  • This is just Kikuchi’s third career start against a National League opponent. The lefty posted a 5.00 ERA across nine innings with 12 hits, four walks and nine strikeouts over two starts against NL teams in 2019.

Prediction

Rockies 7, Mariners 3

Moneyline (ML)

The ROCKIES (-106) are a basically a pick ’em play against the Mariners (+100) in this interleague series opener. The difference here is the Rockies are playing tremendous baseball, and the M’s have been trash for the most part.

If this were a normal game with fans spurring on the home side, I’d think about the boys from SoDo. But give me the Rox until they start to cool off. Plus, they’re 4-0 in their past four interleague games and 5-0 in the previous five against left-handed starting pitchers.

New to sports betting? A winning $10 bet on Colorado (-106) returns a profit of $9.50.

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

The ROCKIES (-1, +115) are a nice play on the run line, as all but one of their past eight victories have been by two or more runs. If you like to roll the dice a little bit, Colorado (-2.5, +200) is an attractive play since you can double up on your initial investment.

Six of their past eight victories have been by at least three runs. Just don’t get crazy here while backing them to win by at least 3 runs.

Over/Under (O/U)

OVER 8.5 (-110) is a good play, especially if Kikuchi is off his game. The second-year pitcher hasn’t proven he can string together quality starts.

The Rockies have the potential to make him pay and hit the Over themselves if they’re really on with the bats. As it stands, I also like the special prop taking Colorado to go Over 5.5 (+170).
