Houston Rockets at San Antonio Spurs odds, picks and predictions

The San Antonio Spurs (1-1) welcome the Houston Rockets (1-2) to Frost Bank Center Monday. Tip-off is set for 8 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s NBA odds around the Rockets vs. Spurs odds and make our expert NBA picks and predictions for the best bets.

Season series: Spurs lead 1-0

These teams met Saturday, with San Antonio winning 109-106 as a 1.5-point home underdog. The Spurs have tallied 109 points in both of their games this season, losing 120-109 at the Dallas Mavericks in their Thursday opener. San Antonio went 2-3 straight up and 3-2 against the spread (ATS) in the preseason. It is led by F Victor Wembanyama, who is averaging 23 points per game.

The Rockets lost to the Charlotte Hornets at home to open the season Wednesday, a disappointing 110-105 defeat. Houston failed to cover as an 8-point favorite, but did bounce back and beat the Memphis Grizzlies 128-108 Friday. The Rockets were 3-1 straight up and ATS during the preseason, and they are being led by G Jalen Green, who is averaging 26.3 points per game.

Rockets at Spurs picks and predictions

Prediction

Rockets 111, Spurs 106

Moneyline

PASS.

The Spurs have some value on the moneyline, but the preferred play is the Houston spread here. The Rockets are too expensive to take as straight-up favorites given the size of the spread.

Against the spread

BET ROCKETS -2.5 (-110).

The Spurs lost by 11 points in their opener, but bounced back well against Houston. They shot 8% better from the field and 8% better from deep. San Antonio also took more free throws. One should expect some of those to change tides in the second match between these sides.

C Alperen Sengun, arguably Houston’s best player, was held to 6 points last time out and should have a better game Monday. The Spurs are the more injured side, as well, and will be without 2 of their top players. With that in mind, back ROCKETS -2.5 (-110).

Over/Under

BET OVER 218.5 (-110).

This will be the lowest total of the season for Houston, and the last time it scored fewer than 110 points, it followed that up with a 128-point performance.

The Rockets are 1-0 O/U after going Under the game prior. The Spurs are 1-1 O/U and have tallied 109 points in both games. They are allowing 113 per game as well. That said, back OVER 218.5 (-110).

Houston Rockets at San Antonio Spurs odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s Houston Rockets at San Antonio Spurs odds and lines, with NBA expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”4141″ ]

The Houston Rockets (1-1) and San Antonio Spurs (0-1) meet Saturday. Tip-off from Frost Bank Center is set for 8:30 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s NBA odds around the Rockets vs. Spurs odds and make our expert NBA picks and predictions for the best bets.

Season series: First meeting; Rockets won 3-1 last season

The Rockets are coming off a 128-108 win as 3.5-point favorites over the visiting Memphis Grizzlies Friday with the Over (226.5) hitting. G Jalen Green had a team-high 22 points, 1 of 7 Rockets to score in double digits.

The Spurs lost 120-109 as 8.5-point underdogs at the Dallas Mavericks Thursday as the Over (227) cashed. C Victor Wembanyama opened his 2nd NBA season with 17 points on 5-of-18 shooting from the field. G Chris Paul — in his first game as a Spur — finished with just 3 points, but added 8 assists and 7 rebounds.

Rockets at Spurs picks and predictions

Prediction

Spurs 115, Rockets 114

Moneyline

The Rockets are coming off an impressive win over the injured frontcourt of the Grizzlies — but how impressive was it? The Grizzlies entered the game 1-0 off a Wednesday 2-point win over the Utah Jazz, but the Jazz just lost by 41 points to the Golden State Warriors Friday, so the Rockets’ victory over Memphis should be taken with a grain of salt.

The Spurs were just 3 points away from covering at the Mavericks — a team with arguably the best player in the world that was just in the NBA Finals. The Rockets are being overvalued in this spot, and the Spurs are not getting enough respect.

BET SPURS (+105).

Against the spread

I prefer the plus-money odds on taking the Spurs straight up, instead of paying -110 for 1.5 points of insurance.

PASS. Bet the ML and/or total instead.

Over/Under

The Over hit in the last game for both teams, with Houston allowing 65 points to the Grizzlies in the 1st half Friday. In the Rockets’ final 9 games to end last season, they were 8-1 to the Over while allowing 119.9 points per game.

BET OVER 221.5 (-110).

Houston Rockets at San Antonio Spurs odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Tuesday’s Houston Rockets at San Antonio Spurs odds and lines, with NBA expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Houston Rockets (29-35) face the San Antonio Spurs (14-51) Tuesday. Tip-off from Frost Bank Center is scheduled for 8:30 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Rockets vs. Spurs odds and make our expert NBA picks and predictions.

Season series: Rockets lead 2-1

Houston has won 4 of its last 5 games, most recently beating the Sacramento Kings 112-104 Sunday as the Under (234) hit. C Alperen Sengun (ankle) was forced to leave the game late in the 4th quarter as the Rockets covered as 6.5-point underdogs. Sengun leads the team with 21.1 points and 9.3 rebounds per game, but now his season is in jeopardy.

San Antonio’s record may be bad, but it has shown recently that it is capable of beating good teams in the NBA. Its wins over the last 2 weeks include victories over the Indiana Pacers, Oklahoma City Thunder, and Golden State Warriors. However, it’s coming off a 112-102 loss as a 5-point underdog against the Warriors Monday with the Under (225) cashing in San Antonio.

Houston is 2-1 against the spread (ATS) vs. San Antonio this season, and the Under has also gone 2-1. The Rockets covered as 7-point favorites with a 114-101 victory in the most recent meeting last Tuesday as the Under (227.5) hit at Toyota Center.

Rockets at Spurs picks and predictions

Prediction

Rockets 112, Spurs 104

Moneyline

Despite having a better overall record, the Rockets (-185) have won just 8 of their 32 road games. But when you look closer, they are 4-1 as road favorites and 4-23 as away underdogs.

However, at -185, it is best to PASS and look to the spread.

Against the spread

San Antonio is on the 2nd night of a back-to-back, and it has covered in just 4 of 12 games on no rest. The Spurs are also just 3-8 ATS in divisional games, while the Rockets are 7-5-1.

BET HOUSTON -4.5 (-105).

Over/Under

The Under has hit in 8 of San Antonio’s last 10 home games. On top of that, Houston is 4-1 to the Under in its past 5 road games. The line is quite low, but usually the market knows something when the total is this low.

LEAN UNDER 222.5 (-110).

Houston Rockets at San Antonio Spurs odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Friday’s Houston Rockets at San Antonio Spurs odds and lines, with NBA expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Houston Rockets (0-1) meet the San Antonio Spurs (0-1) Friday in a battle of Southwest Division teams. Tipoff from Frost Bank Center is set for 8 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Rockets vs. Spurs odds and make our expert NBA picks and predictions.

Season series: First meeting; tied 2-2 last season

Houston was routed 116-86 in its season opener Wednesday night against the Orlando Magic, failing to cover as a 4.5-point underdog. The Rockets were sloppy as they had 19 turnovers and committed 24 fouls. Houston was also dominated on the glass, being outrebounded 57-31.

San Antonio lost 126-119 to the Dallas Mavericks in its season opener Wednesday, failing to cover as a 4.5-point underdog. San Antonio turned the ball over 19 times to Dallas’ 12, with many of them being unforced errors. The Spurs had trouble preventing scoring in the paint, due to rookie standout F/C Victor Wembanyama being in foul trouble.

Rockets at Spurs picks and predictions

Prediction

Spurs 105, Rockets 100

Moneyline

BET SPURS (-120).

Houston is trying to incorporate a lot of new pieces into its scheme, and that showed in the blowout loss to Orlando. Houston could not get anything going offensively in the loss and I expect to see that continue, to a lesser-degree, here. The Spurs were a few bad turnovers and missed Luka Doncic shots away from winning that game, so I have no reason to believe they will look worse vs. a Houston team that looked awful in its season opener.

Against the spread

LEAN SPURS -1.5 (-110).

San Antonio struggled a bit on the defensive side of the ball vs. Dallas, but luckily for the Spurs they don’t have to worry about guarding Doncic or Kyrie Irving in this game. Houston’s offense was abysmal vs. Orlando as the team’s 3-highest scorers all totaled only 14 points.

Over/Under

LEAN UNDER 227.5 (-110).

San Antonio does have some things to figure out defensively, but if Wembanyama can find a way to stay out of foul trouble the team will have success protecting the paint. With Houston’s offense struggling vs. an Orlando team with very few plus defenders I expect more of the same here. Houston has a lot to figure out and I expect it to take some time before we see noticeable improvement from its offense.

Houston Rockets at San Antonio Spurs odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Thursday’s Houston Rockets at San Antonio Spurs odds and lines, with NBA expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Houston Rockets (7-17) face the San Antonio Spurs (6-18) Thursday at AT&T Center. Tip-off is scheduled for 8:30 p.m. ET. Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook’s lines around the Rockets vs. Spurs odds, and make our expert NBA picks and predictions.

The Rockets defeated the Philadelphia 76ers 132-123 in overtime Monday to cover as 8-point underdogs at home. Houston has won 2 of its last 3 games and 4 of its last 7.

The Spurs were blown out 133-95 by the Phoenix Suns Sunday as they fell way short of covering as 10-point home underdogs. San Antonio is on an 11-game losing skid.

Rockets at Spurs picks and predictions

Prediction

Rockets 122, Spurs 113

Moneyline

Even though choosing between these teams is tough, ROCKETS (-140) is where I’d go. While both teams are likely looking ahead to next year’s draft already, Houston is trying to lose less than San Antonio is right now.

Against the spread

ROCKETS -2.5 (-115) is the ideal choice with Houston being a bit healthier. There’s a good chance that the Spurs are without Poeltl, Sochan, and Vassell.

The Rockets are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 road games against a team with a losing home record and the Spurs are 0-8 ATS in their last 8 games following an ATS loss.

Over/Under

Despite both of these teams not being contenders, OVER 232.5 (-105) is an intriguing wager. With both teams taking a youthful approach to their rosters, both of them are top 15 in pace this season, so there will be plenty of shots taken Thursday.

The Rockets and the Spurs are both 4-0 to the Over in their last 4 games against teams with a losing record and it’s 4-0 in the last 4 meetings between Houston and San Antonio.

Houston Rockets at San Antonio Spurs odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Friday’s Houston Rockets at San Antonio Spurs odds and lines, with NBA expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Houston Rockets (15-36) visit AT&T Center to take on the San Antonio Spurs (19-34). Tip-off is scheduled for 8:30 p.m. ET. Below, we look at the Rockets vs. Spurs odds and lines, and make our expert NBA picks, predictions and bets.

Despite being 5-point home underdogs, the Rockets beat the Cavaliers 115-104 Wednesday in their last outing. They’re 5-5 against the spread (ATS) and O/U over their last 10.

The Rockets rank 17th in points per game (108.4 PPG) and last in opponents’ PPG (116.7). They’re just 7-20 on the road this season, yet 13-12-1 ATS as road underdogs.

The Spurs were without leading-scorer PG Dejounte Murray (19.6 PPG) due to a wrist injury Thursday, but he is expected to play Friday.

The Spurs are 27-26 ATS this season, including 8-4 as home favorites. However, they covered just 3 of their last 8.

Rockets at Spurs odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Spurs 118, Rockets 111

Money line

PASS.

The Spurs haven’t shown enough this season to be worthy of a -320 line.

The Rockets have played poorly on the road this season, making their +250 price a value I wouldn’t comfortably back.

Against the spread

LEAN to the SPURS -6.5 (-122).

The Spurs are one of the few teams that, on paper, are better than their record indicates. San Antonio ranks 15th in offensive rating and 20th in defensive rating, yet rank 24th in win percentage.

Assuming Murray plays as expected, the Spurs star should be rested. The Spurs are actually above .500 ATS (6-4) without rest. They are 8-4 as home favorites, so they manage to cover when taking on weaker teams.

Also, the Spurs rank second in turnover rate, while the Rockets are at the bottom of the league. Put it all together, and I like the Spurs to cover as long as Murray is in the lineup.

Over/Under

BET UNDER 237.5 (-110).

While both teams rank top five in pace, this total feels too high. The Spurs did post 134 points the last time these two teams met, but it’s unlikely they repeat 57% shooting.

The Spurs are 3-7 O/U on no rest. The Rockets are 5-5 O/U in their last 10 games, while the Spurs are 4-6 O/U.

Houston Rockets at San Antonio Spurs odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Saturday’s Houston Rockets at San Antonio Spurs NBA betting odds and lines, with basketball picks, tips and predictions.

The Houston Rockets (4-6) face the San Antonio Spurs (6-6) Saturday for their second-straight meeting at the AT&T Center. The tip-off is set for 5 p.m. ET. Below, we analyze the Rockets-Spurs NBA betting odds and lines, with picks and predictions.

Houston upset San Antonio in the first head-to-head earlier this week 109-105 as 7.5-point road underdogs. It was Houston’s first game in the post-James Harden, era and the Rockets were also without former All-Star PG John Wall and SG Eric Gordon in their win over San Antonio.

Rockets C Christian Wood stepped up to score a team-high 27 points on 10-of-18 shooting with 15 rebounds and 3 blocks. The key piece in Houston’s return on the Harden trade—SG Victor Oladipo—is questionable to play but, Oladipo has a clean bill of health and should be active as long as he’s completely moved into his new digs.

The Spurs built a brick house behind the arc vs. the Rockets, connecting on just 29% of their 3-point attempts. Aside from SF Keldon Johnson, who scored a game- and career-high 29 points and SG Lonnie Walker IV, who made 4-of-7 threes, it was a pretty terrible offensive display from San Antonio.

Rockets at Spurs: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Spurs 115, Rockets 106

Money line (ML)

PASS ON THE MONEY LINE because the Spurs should even the season series with the Rockets, but it’s not sharp to lay more than two times your return for a straight-up win in regular-season basketball. For example, the Rockets didn’t even have a point guard active Tuesday, and they still beat the Spurs.

Against the spread (ATS)

I’ll own up to my whiff on the Rockets-Spurs game Thursday, but BetMGM is not overreacting, and neither should we.

The line was Spurs -7.5 last game, and it only moved a point despite Houston’s win, the possible return of Gordon and the arrival of Oladipo. Even if they play, the Rockets are still without a true point guard, and they turned the ball over 18 times last game.

Also, SG DeMar DeRozan struggled through three quarters in what was his first game back after missing the previous two for personal reasons. But, DeRozan got going and scored 10 of his 13 points in the fourth quarter.

San Antonio’s offense will get back on track or at least do a better job of capitalizing on Houston not having a point guard. I’ll TAKE SPURS -7.5 (+100) for 1 unit.

Over/Under (O/U)

PASS ON THE TOTAL. If Gordon and Oladipo play, I lean OVER 219.5 (-110) because those dudes can get buckets but aren’t trying to play much D. But, either way, the Rockets are missing so many players that it’s hard to have much confidence in their offense.
