Rockets release blooper reel for 2022-23 schedule release video

The Rockets didn’t have much acting experience prior to their epic schedule release video for the 2022-23 season, so there were understandably a few bloopers.

The Houston Rockets drew rave reviews in recent weeks regarding their epic schedule release video for the 2022-23 NBA season. Not surprisingly, it took quite a bit of work to pull off.

Beyond the production value, it’s not as if the film’s marquee actors had much (if any) acting experience. The video starred head coach Stephen Silas and five players: Eric Gordon, Josh Christopher, Jabari Smith Jr., Tari Eason and TyTy Washington.

With that in mind, there were understandably a few outtakes and bloopers from the acting process, and the Rockets were kind enough to package a small handful of them this week for viewing on Twitter.

At 21 years old, Eason is the oldest member of Houston’s three first-round rookies from the 2022 NBA draft. Yet, as viewers of the blooper reel can tell, he’s still very young at heart, as well.

Scroll on for the complete blooper video from the Rockets.

2022-23 Houston Rockets complete schedule, broadcast information

Here’s a month-by-month look at the 2022-23 Houston Rockets season schedule, along with TV and radio broadcast information for all games.

Complete with a release video featuring players, coaches, executives, broadcasters, and beyond, the official Houston Rockets schedule for the 2022-23 NBA season is now out.

With one of the league’s youngest rosters, expectations are still fairly minimal for a club that is still relatively early in its rebuilding process. Yet, given the presence of prized young prospects like Jalen Green, Jabari Smith Jr., Kevin Porter Jr., and Alperen Sengun, there’s still a lot to watch for as Houston continues to grow and develop.

Scroll on for a month-by-month look at all games, opponents, tipoff times, and broadcast information for the Rockets during the 2022-23 campaign. Training camp will open in late September, followed by the start of preseason games during the first week of October.

Initial national television assignments are not finalized, so it’s possible that some games could be added or subtracted from that list at a later date, should the league’s broadcast partners choose to do so.

With schedule release video, Rockets reveal all games in 2022-23 season

With a schedule release video featuring nearly the entire roster, the Rockets revealed the dates and times for all of their games in the NBA’s 2022-23 season. Here’s a look at the highlights.

Like all NBA teams, the Houston Rockets on Wednesday announced their complete schedule for the 2022-23 regular season. And this year, the young squad did it with some extra flair.

When the schedule dropped at 2 p.m. CDT, the Rockets announced it via a release video on social media, which featured nearly the entire roster taking on acting roles from Toyota Center and beyond. Coaches, executives and broadcasters got in on the action, as well.

It was a clever twist to what is often a mundane process. Even recently drafted rookies Jabari Smith Jr., Tari Eason and TyTy Washington were in on the action. Here’s a look at the team-produced video, and scroll on for the team’s official schedule announcement.

The announcement includes specific dates and tipoff times for all 2022-23 games, including four nationally televised contests.

From Rockets PR:

The Houston Rockets today announced their schedule for the 2022-23 regular season, which celebrates their 55th anniversary as an NBA franchise.

AT&T SportsNet will broadcast the entire 82 game schedule, with ESPN also showcasing the Rockets game at Sacramento on Jan. 11 and NBA TV picking up an additional three games. All games will be available on the radio broadcast home of the Houston Rockets, SportsTalk 790 KBME and NewsRadio 740 KTRH, as well as in Spanish on TUDN 93.3 FM.

Tickets for Rockets home games are available to purchase by visiting Rockets.com.

The Rockets will open the season at Atlanta on Oct. 19 before playing their home opener vs. Memphis on Oct. 21. Ten of Houston’s first 13 games will be on the road, including two four-game trips. That ties for the most road games by any team through the first 13 games of a season in NBA history.

From mid-November through Christmas, Houston will play 13 of 19 games at Toyota Center, including a four-game homestand from Nov. 18-26 and a season-high seven straight home games from Dec. 11-23. In December, the Rockets will host six of the eight teams which advanced to the conference semifinals last season, including Philadelphia on Dec. 5.

The Rockets will play eight of 12 on the road from Dec. 26 through Jan. 16, culminating with back-to-back games at the Los Angeles Clippers and Lakers. Coming off of that trip, eight of Houston’s next 11 games will be at home before playing a season-high tying five straight on the road from Feb. 10-26, broken up by NBA All-Star Weekend in Salt Lake City (Feb. 17-19).

Over a span from Feb. 28 through March 20, Houston will play 10 of 12 at Toyota Center, concluding with a six-game homestand which includes games vs. Boston, the Lakers and Golden State. The Rockets will play seven of their last 10 games on the road, including the season finale at Washington on April 9.

The Rockets have 13 sets of back-to-back games this season, including two within the first eight games and four in March.  Four of the back-to-backs feature both games at Toyota Center while four take place in different cities on the road.

Houston will play each NBA team at least once at home and once on the road this season. It will play Western Conference opponents four times (twice home and away), except for the following: the Los Angeles Lakers (2 home, 1 road), Phoenix (1 home, 2 road), Portland (1 home, 2 road) and Utah (2 home, 1 road).

As a daily breakdown, the Rockets have 16 games on Monday (9 home), five on Tuesday (4 home), 18 on Wednesday (8 home), six on Thursday (3 home), 14 on Friday (7 home), 12 on Saturday (4 home) and 11 on Sunday (6 home).

Report: Four Rockets games picked for national television in 2022-23

The NBA’s upcoming schedule release for the 2022-23 season features four Houston Rockets games to be shown on national television, per @KellyIkoNBA of The Athletic.

The NBA’s upcoming schedule release for the 2022-23 season features four nationally televised Houston Rockets games, according to The Athletic’s Kelly Iko. The complete schedule will be released Wednesday afternoon.

As a reminder, the NBA’s national TV schedule does have flexibility and can be revised. In other words, if a team overachieves or underachieves its projections (in the eyes of the league and its broadcast partners), it could have games national telecasts added or subtracted.

With the Rockets, even though there are clear young building blocks such as Jalen Green (the No. 2 pick from the first round of the 2021 NBA draft) and Jabari Smith Jr. (the No. 3 pick in 2022), the reality is Houston has had the league’s worst record in each of the past two seasons. Bad teams typically aren’t TV draws, so barring a big-name influx of elite veteran talent, which the Rockets did not have this offseason, to upgrade the roster and its short-term outlook, networks are likely to hesitate on picking up too many Rockets games until they win at a higher clip.

These are the dates and networks of Houston’s initial allotment of four nationally televised games:

  • Nov. 12, at New Orleans (NBA TV)
  • Nov. 26, vs. Oklahoma City (NBA TV)
  • Jan. 11, at Sacramento (ESPN)
  • Jan. 16, at Los Angeles Lakers (NBA TV)

The full schedule, which will include all game dates, times, and locations, will be released at 2 p.m. CDT on Wednesday.

Other games on Houston’s 82-game schedule will be televised via regional broadcast partner AT&T SportsNet Southwest and available nationally through NBA League Pass.

The Rockets’ rookies will see the floor for their first game on October 5 in preseason action against the Wizards, with the regular-season beginning October 20.

Houston Rockets announce full schedule for NBA’s 2021-22 season

Jalen Green and the Rockets begin regular-season play on Oct. 20 in Minnesota, followed by an Oct. 22 home opener versus Oklahoma City.

With top rookie Jalen Green as a clear box office attraction, the Houston Rockets released their complete schedule for the NBA’s upcoming 2021-22 regular season. Barring an unexpected disruption, it will be the first time since 2018-19 for Houston to complete a normal schedule of 82 games, home and away, with fans at full capacity.

Both of the last two seasons were shortened to 72 games due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and each had significant fan restrictions in place for a sizable portion. That is not expected to be the case in 2021-22.

The regular season begins for the Rockets on Oct. 20 in Minnesota, followed by the much anticipated home opener on Friday, Oct. 22 versus Oklahoma City. See below for all 82 game dates and times and the team’s official announcement, which contains all sorts of additional details.

From the team: Houston announced its schedule for the 2021-22 season, which the NBA is celebrating as its 75th anniversary. This marks the Rockets’ 55th season as an NBA franchise and their 51st in Houston.

The Rockets preseason schedule consists of four games, with the first two at Toyota Center vs. Washington on Oct. 5 and vs. Miami on Oct. 7.  Houston closes out the preseason with games at Toronto on Oct. 11 and at San Antonio on Oct. 15.

The Rockets open the regular season at Minnesota on Oct. 20 before playing three of four games at Toyota Center, including the home opener vs. Oklahoma City on Oct. 22. Houston will play five straight road games three times this season, with the first set coming from Oct. 31 through Nov. 7.

Following a three-game homestand from Nov. 10-14, Houston has a four-game road trip from Nov. 15-22 followed by a stretch of seven of eight at home from Nov. 24 through Dec. 10.

From Dec. 11-27, the Rockets will play eight of nine on the road before a three-game homestand which includes a New Year’s Eve matchup vs. Miami and New Year’s Day game vs. Denver. The last two times Houston played on New Year’s Day was in 2001 and 1981.

The Rockets will play seven of nine on the road from Jan. 3-21 before a season-long five-game homestand from Jan. 24 through Feb. 2. Five of Houston’s final seven games heading into All-Star break will be on the road.

Houston’s first game post All-Star break is at Orlando on Feb. 25, followed by a stretch with 10 of 13 games at Toyota Center from Feb. 27 through March 21. The Rockets have a three-game road trip from March 23-26 before wrapping up the season by playing five of seven at home, including the finale vs. Atlanta on April 10.

This season, the Rockets will face each NBA team at least once at home and once on the road, including Western Conference opponents twice both home and away, except for the following: Denver (1 home, 2 road), Golden State (1 home, 2 road), L.A. Clippers (2 home, 1 road), and Minnesota (2 home, 1 road).

The Rockets have 13 sets of back-to-back games this season, including five from Dec. 10 through Jan. 1 and four in March.  Four sets are both home games while three feature road games in multiple cities.

Houston will play 13 games on Monday (5 home), seven on Tuesday (3 home), 18 on Wednesday (8 home), six on Thursday (3 home), 17 on Friday (10 home), seven on Saturday (2 home), and 14 on Sunday (10 home).

Rockets release schedule for second half of 2020-21 season

The NBA released its schedule on Wednesday for the second half of this regular season, including postponements to be made up.

The NBA on Wednesday released its schedule for the second half of the 2020-21 regular season, including postponements from the first half that need to be made up in order for each team to reach the desired total of 72 games. Second-half games will run from March 10 until May 16.

For the Houston Rockets, there were three postponements — all at home — that need to be made up, giving them a total of 39 games in the season’s second half. One of the postponements was on Dec. 23 versus Oklahoma City due to COVID-19 issues, while the other two (Indiana, Dallas) occurred last weekend due to the recent winter storm in Texas.

Unlike most seasons, in which the full schedule is released at once, the NBA split this year’s announcement — since it anticipated having to slide in “makeup games” later in the year due to pandemic postponements.

The good news for the Rockets (11-18), who entered Wednesday with eight straight losses, is that they should have star center Christian Wood (right ankle sprain) back in the lineup before the season’s second half. They were 7-1 in their last eight games before Wood’s Feb. 4 injury.

The bad news is that the second-half schedule, at least on paper, appears to be more difficult. The Utah Jazz (25-6) and Los Angeles Clippers (23-10) have the two best records in the Western Conference, yet the Rockets didn’t play them a single time in the season’s first half. In the second half, they’ll play the Jazz and Clippers a combined six times.

Houston will also face reigning MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Bucks twice after not playing them at all in the first half of the schedule. At +7.7, Milwaukee has the league’s second-best point differential.

See below for additional scheduling tidbits. Houston concludes its first-half schedule next Wednesday, March 3, when former Rockets star James Harden makes his only return visit with his new team, the Brooklyn Nets.
