Rockets at Clippers picks and predictions

Prediction

Clippers 110, Rockets 106

Moneyline

PASS.

The Rockets are 4-18 on the road this season, and even at (+350), their moneyline value isn’t worthy of a play.

Against the spread

BET ROCKETS +9.5 (-110).

Neither team has covered well as of late, but the Rockets are missing fewer players and should be able to keep this within single digits.

The Clippers will be missing 3 of their top-5 scorers if Wall and Morris Sr., both of which are doubtful, don’t play. That’s too much production to be this wide of favorites. The Clippers are just 10-12 ATS at home as well.

LA has been without George for its last 4 games and is 1-3, and 1-2 ATS as a favorite in that span as well. Considering the absentees for LA, back the ROCKETS +9.5 (-110).

Over/Under

LEAN UNDER 221.5 (-108).

The Rockets don’t shoot well from the floor, and the Clippers will be without many big-time scorers. Couple those 2 facts with LA’s top-tier defense together, and the Under makes sense.

LA is 17-27 O/U this season and has gone under in 3 straight games, failing to eclipse 110 in 2 of the 3. It is 1-5 O/U in its last 6. The Rockets are 5-5 O/U in their last 10 and 21-21 O/U this season.

With LA so much production and a defense-first team, back the UNDER 221.5 (-110).

Houston Rockets at Los Angeles Clippers odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Thursday’s Houston Rockets at Los Angeles Clippers odds and lines, with NBA expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Houston Rockets (15-42) visit Crypto.com Arena Thursday to take on the Los Angeles Clippers (29-31). Tip-off is scheduled for 10:30 p.m. ET. Below, we look at the Rockets vs. Clippers odds and lines, and make our expert NBA picks, predictions and bets.

The Rockets are coming off a 124-121 loss to the Phoenix Suns Wednesday, easily covering the spread as 16.5-point road underdogs. It was Houston’s first cover in its last 6 games.

The Rockets are last in the Western Conference, and surprisingly were not sellers at the trade deadline. C Christian Wood leads the Rockets in scoring and rebound with 17.6 points and 10.2 rebounds per game, respectively.

The Rockets are 23-33-1 against the spread (ATS), while the Clippers are 29-31 ATS.

Los Angeles is also 17-13 straight up at home. While the Clippers have covered 3 straight games, most recently losing 103-96 but covering as 12-point underdogs at Phoenix Tuesday, they’re just 5-5 ATS over their last 10 outings.

Rockets at Clippers odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Clippers 113, Rockets 108

Money line

PASS.

The Rockets are just 7-24 on the road, while the Clippers are 17-13 at home. The only playable side is Houston (+470) as the Clippers (-700) are just far too expensive.

Against the spread

BET the ROCKETS +10.5 (-105).

I like the Clippers, but I don’t see this being a double-figure game most of the time. Recently trading for the injured Powell, the Clippers will be down a key scorer.

On top of that, the Clippers two key defenders are SF Marcus Morris and PF Robert Covington. For Houston, its four top scorers are either guards or Wood, who players center.

The Clippers’ covering success as of late has been because they haven’t been getting crushed, more than 5-point underdogs in all 3 games which they’ve covered. They’re 0-2 ATS as favorites over their last 10.

The Clippers sit 19th in net rating with the Rockets 29th. Lastly, the Rockets’ main issues come from their inability to defend, ranking last in defensive rating.

Los Angeles, which is 26th in offensive rating, won’t be able to abuse that weakness. In turn, that should keep this game close.

Over/Under

PASS.

Both teams have hit the Over in 7 of their last 10. However, I don’t see the Rockets playing their style of basketball in this game. The Rockets rank 2nd in pace.

If the Clippers control the pace, the Under should be the better play, but there’s no guarantee their defense will be able to limit a team that loves to play in transition.

I’d stick to Houston and that wide spread in this one.

Rockets at Clippers: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Clippers 115, Rockets 100

Money line (ML)

Houston only has three wins in its last 30 games. The Clippers have won three in a row and nine of 11. This is an easy pick to bet. However, the pricing doesn’t make sense. Yes, the Clippers are as close to a sure thing as anything, but at -900, you have to wager nine times what you can potentially win. You are better off betting the spread or the total.

Play our new free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Against the spread (ATS)

The Clippers have covered the spread in nine of their last 11 games. Eight of their last nine wins have been by double digits. They have the league’s fifth-highest cover percentage at 58.5%. Houston has fared much better against the spread lately. While the Rockets are a league-worst 17-34 against the spread, they are 3-2 ATS in their last five games, and they have covered the spread in three of the last four games their opponents are favored by double digits. But with Wall missing the game tonight, the Rockets won’t have the offensive firepower to keep up with L.A. Take the CLIPPERS -13.5 (-110).

Over/Under (O/U)

Houston’s over percentage this season is 40%, the fourth-lowest in the league. The Clippers are 29-23-1 O/U, but four of their last five games have gone under the total. They have allowed 105 or fewer points in five of their last six games. Take UNDER 224.5 POINTS (-105).
