Celtics announce all 15 members of All-Celtics roster for NBA’s 75th anniversary celebration

The Celtics released all 15 players for their all-time great Celtics list in honor of the league’s 75th-birthday celebrations.

The Boston Celtics are a founding member of the Basketball Association of America (BAA), the league that would one day call itself the NBA of today, and have thus been a prominent franchise in the league’s 75th-anniversary celebrations throughout the 2021-22 NBA season so far.

One of several such ways the Celtics have helped commemorate the league reaching its’ three-quarter century mark has been their slow reveal of their 15-man all-time team of the greatest players to don the green and white for Boston, done in three installments of five players each over the course of the last two weeks.

Selected by a panel of experts and historians, the Celtics released the final, full 15-player roster on Thursday afternoon along with a press release detailing all aspects of the team.

WATCH: Celtics legend Robert Parish’s advice for Robert Williams III to improve his game

This is what Chief has to say to @rob_williamsIII on what to do to take his game to the next level.

In today’s NBA, a league more focused than ever on 3-point shooters has perhaps never been less interested in the development of big men who do not have that tool in their arsenal. But that does not mean that such players can’t be a part of a winning formula with enough other tools at their disposal.

The problem is that there is a dearth of big men coaches in the league to teach the skills which could push players like Boston Celtics big man Robert Williams III into truly elite territory skill-wise — try and imagine the havoc Timelord could wreak with a reliable turnaround jumper from the midrange, for example.

And such was a topic of conversation between Celtics Wire and Boston Hall of Fame center Robert Parish in a recent interview, where Chief not only expressed interest in such an opportunity but outlined how he might offer advice to Williams to take his game to the next level.

Watch the clip from our friends at CLNS Media embedded above to hear Parish’s thoughts on how his fellow Louisiana native can help his game with just a few simple suggestions and a little expert help.

WATCH: Boston’s Robert Parish talks 2022 Celtics All-Stars, Robert Williams III, interest in coaching

The Boston legend had plenty to say about today’s Celtics in a recent interview with Celtics Wire.

Boston Celtics Hall of Fame center Robert Parish may not be in the public eye to quite the degree he was when hanging banners in Boston with Larry Bird, Kevin McHale and Danny Ainge, but that does not mean that the famed big man isn’t keeping tabs on his former ball club or the league.

In a recent interview with the Celtics Wire, Parish talked about the NBA’s 75th anniversary, the 2022 All-Star Game and which current Celtics he thinks might make it, and what advice he has for fellow Louisiana native Robert Williams III as a player and fellow big man.

Chief even talks about how he played for 21 seasons in a league so many leave so soon and hinted he might be interested in coaching should the right opportunity come along.

Watch the interview in full in the clip embedded above, hosted by our friends over at CLNS media.

Boston legend Robert Parish talks Celtics All-Stars, Robert Williams, coaching and more in new interview

Cheif sat down with the Celtics Wire to share his thoughts on the historic season, the All-Star game, and the team he won three titles with.

Robert Parish is among the greatest big men to ever play the game, and he did it longer than anyone else due to his extraordinary longevity. The bulk of his 21-season career was spent with the Boston Celtics, where he won three of his four titles among countless other honors.

Chief, as Parish was dubbed by teammate Cedric Maxwell for his stoic demeanor on the court, sat down with the Celtics Wire to share his thoughts on the contemporary NBA in the year of the league’s diamond jubilee, making the 75th-anniversary team, the 2022 All-Star game, and the state of the team he spent 14 seasons playing for.

He even offers up some excellent advice for fellow Louisianan center Robert Williams III in the wide-ranging interview below (edited lightly for clarity and brevity).

Which Boston Celtics centers populate HoopsHype’s estimate of the best to play the game at the 5?

The Celtics check in with seven alumni among HoopsHype’s recent list of the 20 greatest centers in NBA history.

The center position may have lost some of its luster in the NBA of today, with it often being seen as perhaps the most replaceable position after decades of the five being among or even the most important position in the sport.

And with a team as storied as the Boston Celtics are, you have to think that any list of the sport’s top centers in league history has to be peppered with quite a few Celtics alumni. Such an assessment would be a solid one, given a recent such list published by our sister site HoopsHype to highlight the 20 greatest centers of all time was populated by seven former Boston big men.

Let’s take a look at the players so honored.

All of Chief’s biggest moments as a Celtic are in this clip.

Younger fans of the Boston Celtics may not realize what a force of nature Hall of Fame Celtics center Robert Parish was on the court. With the sort of longevity rarely seen in the league for any sort of player — never mind a big man — Chief racked up accolades across an absurd 21-season career, 14 of which were spent with the Celtics.

Parish would win three of his four NBA titles with Boston, make 9 All-Star teams, 2 All-NBA teams, and many other honors, a relentless force in the paint epitomizing the old-school NBA center who came to the Celtics in one of the league’s most infamously lop-sided trades.

If you are an older Celtics fan and want to reminsce a bit in the midst of Boston’s current mediocrity or just want to see what all the hype surrounding Parish is, make sure you check out the video embedded below.

In it is a definitive collection of his best plays from that two decade-plus career, assembled by the folks over at CLNS Media’s “NBA History & Legends” YouTube channel.

Boston Celtics all-time roster: See which legends made the cut

In honor of the NBA’s 75th anniversary, we present the best rosters in Celtics history drawn from every era.

In honor of the 75 years the Boston Celtics have been a foundational part of the league they helped shepherd from its days as the Basketball Association of America, the predecessor league it was formed from, we at the Celtics Wire decided to try our own hand at the many lists of players being commemorated as part of the Association hitting the three-quarters century mark.

To that end, we have put together not just one but four all-time Celtics teams, featuring our Honorable Mention team along with First, Second, and Third team honors. It is a veritable ‘who’s who’ of iconic Boston players — and each team has a head coach drawn from the greatest the Celtics have to offer in that regard.

The criteria for ranking is a subjective mixture of what each player did as a Celtic and how good of a player they were in their era. With this in mind, if you disagree with our rankings, that’s likely why. So without further ado — here are our teams.

HoopsHype lists 16 Boston Celtics on their projected 75 greatest players list

16 Celtics alumni make the cut for HoopsHype’s projected 75 greatest players list for the NBA’s 3/4 century celebratory accounting.

Not to be left out of the NBA’s 75th anniversary list creation extravaganza gripping the league’s wider media sphere, our sister site HoopsHype assembled a list of their own 75 greatest players of all time building off of (and cutting a few of) the NBA 50 greatest players list released for the Association’s 50th anniversary.

Given that the initial official list was, shall we say, a little generous to some and not as much as others perhaps warranted, we expected some players — including Boston Celtics alumni — to not make the cut of a list that was heavily dominated by the team in green and white.

They include Bill Walton, Sam Jones, Dave Bing, and Bill Sharman.

How many of the NBA’s official 50 greatest in 1996 were Boston Celtics?

In 1996, the NBA released a list of its 50 greatest players up to that year to celebrate as many years of play as a league. Can you guess them all?

In 1996, the NBA decided to assemble a panel of 50 players, media members, and team representatives in total to select the 50 greatest players of the league’s first 50 years on the anniversary of the NBA’s first season of 1946-47.

The league again plans to assemble a similar list to honor the 75th anniversary of its foundation in 2021, but before we begin to speculate which alumni of the Boston Celtics will be added to the list, let’s take a look at the old one. Dominated by names once populating the championship eras of the team from the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s, a total of 14 of the NBA’s 50 greatest players once donned the green and white.

Let’s review who made the cut, and when they were Celtics.

Celebrating Celtics icon Robert Parish on his birthday: a career in photos

Looking back on Robert Parish’s Hall of Fame career with Boston in images on his birthday.

Champion Boston Celtics center Robert Parish was born on this day in 1953 in Shreveport, Louisiana. Chief — as he was dubbed by Boston teammate Cedric Maxwell for his unflappable demeanor — played collegiately at little-known Centenary College, from which he would be drafted by the Golden State Warriors with the eighth overall pick of the 1976 NBA draft.

He would famously be dealt to the Celtics in 1980 along with the draft pick that would be used to select fellow Hall of Fame big man Kevin McHale, and would fittingly win three titles in Boston in 1981, 1984 and 1986 (he would also win a fourth later in his career with the Chicago Bulls) as part of the so-called “Big Three” of himself, McHale and Larry Bird.

With a 21-year career encompassing nine All-Star nods and two All-NBA team elections among many other honors, Parish is one of the all-time Celtics greats, his No. 00 jersey hanging from the rafters.  On his birthday, let’s celebrate his career with the gallery of images below.
