Carolina Panthers players wear ‘Rivera Strong’ shirts in pre-game warmups vs. Washington

The Panthers paid a classy tribute to former coach Ron Rivera by wearing ‘Rivera Strong’ shirts ahead of their game vs. Washington.

Just because Washington coach Ron Rivera no longer resides in Carolina with the Panthers doesn’t mean there isn’t still a strong connection between the two parties.

That much was made clear early on Sunday afternoon when the Panthers players were seen wearing ‘Rivera Strong’ shirts ahead of the game, mirroring a slogan that has held strong in Washington this season after the coach’s inspiring battle against cancer earlier this season. Rivera spent much of training camp and the first half of the season getting treatments for a lymph node cancer, sometimes having to get an IV at halftime, and working his coaching schedule around his chemotherapy treatments.

It’s clear that the Panthers still have a lot of love for Rivera, and they made that known this week with a very classy gesture.

WATCH: Ron Rivera ‘rings the bell’ after receiving final cancer treatment

Rivera received his final cancer treatment on Monday, and he celebrated a different type of victory that we are all in awe of.

We couldn’t have put it any better than the Washington Football Team Twitter account did on Monday morning. It’s a different kind of Victory Monday, and one that is much more significant that many teams are experiencing.

A day after defeating the Dallas Cowboys 25-3, Washington head coach Ron Rivera received his final chemotherapy treatment for lymph node cancer, and his exit from the hospital was a special moment that was filmed and shared with the world. Walking down the hall, dozens of nurses and staff members celebrated and threw confetti on Rivera, which culminated in him ringing a victory bell to signify the end of his treatment. He did so with a smile on his face, I’m sure.

Rivera has now gone through all of his cancer treatment, and he did so without missing a single game. There were a couple of practices that he was absent from, and a second-half here or there that were spent coaching from the bench, but the grit and courage he showed through all of this is remarkable. We are so happy to have you with us in Washington, coach. Congratulations on finishing your treatment.
