LaMelo Ball named to 2022 NBA Rising Stars roster

Get ready to see plenty of the 2020 NBA Rookie of the Year in Cleveland for All-Star Weekend.

LaMelo Ball is nothing short of a rising star in the league, so it was only right that he’ll be front and center come All-Star Weekend.

On Tuesday, Ball was named to the 2022 NBA Rising Stars roster for the second-straight season.

The reigning NBA Rookie of the Year is not just having a Rising Stars like season but a potential All-Star season as well, as LaMelo is averaging 19.5 points, 7.2 rebounds, 7.7 assists, and 1.5 steals per game.

LaMelo joined the NBA on TNT crew to talk about being named to the Rising Stars roster and what he plans to do come game time. “Hopefully a show. Go out there and half fun…I feel like it will be a great time.”

Last season’s NBA Rising Stars game was not played due to COVID-19 so expect for Ball and his fellow stars to put on a show in Cleveland.

Bulls rookie Ayo Dosunmu named to 2022 Rising Stars Roster

The Bulls’ rookie is headed to All-Star Weekend.

DeMar DeRozan, Lonzo Ball, and Alex Caruso weren’t the only big offseason acquisitions made by the Chicago Bulls last summer.

The emergence of rookie Ayo Dosunmu has added a consistent, two-way threat off the bench for the Bulls so far this season, and the rest of the league has taken notice.

On Tuesday, the Illinois product was named to the 2022 Rising Stars roster for All-Star Weekend.

With Coby White missing the beginning of the season and injuries suffered by Zach LaVine, Lonzo Ball, and Alex Caruso, Dosunmu has gotten every opportunity to earn minutes and impress Billy Donovan.

Through 45 games, Dosunmu is averaging 7.6 points, 2.7 rebounds, and 2.2 assists per game.

NBA unveils new format for Rising Stars game at All-Star Weekend

The NBA on Tuesday unveiled a new format for the annual Rising Stars game set to take place on Feb. 18 in Cleveland.

On Tuesday, the NBA unveiled a new format for the annual Rising Stars game set to take place on Feb. 18 as part of All-Star Weekend in Cleveland, Ohio.

The showcase game will feature four seven-player teams competing in a mini-tournament consisting of three games. Each game will be played to a final target score, meaning that a game will end with a made basket or a made free throw instead of a running clock.

The pool of 28 players for the game will consist of 12 first-year players, 12 second-year players and four players from the NBA G League Ignite. The rookies and sophomores will be selected by assistant coaches and the Ignite players will be chosen by G League head coaches.

The teams will be coached by members of the NBA’s 75th-anniversary team. The coaches will select their rosters in a Rising Stars draft with each team consisting of seven players, including one from the Ignite.

The semifinal games will be played to a final target score of 50 with the final game being played to 25, for a total of 75 points across the semifinal and final to celebrate the league’s 75th anniversary season. The details of the coaches and draft will be announced at a later date.

In addition, a timed shooting competition will take place during the evening. A total of eight NBA and Ignite players will be divided into four teams of two and compete to make shots from five locations on the court tied to iconic shots made in the playoffs.

The Rising Stars game was canceled last year after the NBA opted to hold each All-Star Weekend event all on March 7 due to the coronavirus pandemic. The league still announced rosters for the event to recognize those players deserving of the honor.

TNT will televise the Rising Stars game beginning at 9 p.m. EST.

After initially being left off of the NBA ‘Rising Stars’ rosters for the 2020 All-Star weekend in Chicago, former Alabama guard Collin Sexton has been added in place of an injured Tyler Herro.

The former No. 9 overall pick in the 2018 NBA Draft by the Cleveland Cavaliers has been added to ‘Team USA’ where he will be teammates with Zion Williamson, Ja Morant, Trae Young and numerous other talented young NBA stars.

Sexton has had quite a difficult time finding success on the Cavaliers as the team was stripped of its strongest talent shortly before he was drafted.

The All-Star selection is quite an honor, regardless of how it came to be, and it will definitely be a key piece on Sexton’s resume when it comes time for him to be a free agent and look for a long-term home in the NBA.
