Rider at UCLA odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Monday’s Rider at UCLA odds and lines, with college basketball expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”4141″ ]

The Rider Broncs and the 22nd-ranked UCLA Bruins meet at Pauley Pavilion Monday in the regular-season opener for both teams. Tip-off is scheduled for 10:30 p.m. ET (FS1). Let’s analyze FanDuel Sportsbook’s college basketball odds around the Rider vs. UCLA odds, and make our expert college basketball picks and predictions.

The Broncs are expected to be in the middle of the pack in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) this season. Unfortunately for Rider, the team has no players voted to either of the All-MAAC first, second or third preseason teams.

The Bruins didn’t make the NCAA Tournament in their final Pac-12 season. UCLA begins a new era in the Big Ten Conference, and the team bolstered the roster big time. G Kobe Johnson comes in to handle the pivot, and G Dylan Andrews is back to handle the backcourt chores.

Rider at UCLA picks and predictions

Prediction

UCLA 80, Rider 61

Moneyline

UCLA (-7000) would cost you 70 times your potential return, and that’s obviously not something you’ll want to do. Betting giant favorites is not a recommended long-term betting strategy.

AVOID.

Play our free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Against the spread

RIDER +20.5 (-104) is not a team that is expected to do much in the MAAC in 2024-25, but it heads out to UCLA -20.5 (-118) not knowing any better, either.

Coach Mick Cronin’s team should be much better after missing the NCAA Tournament last season, and it is expected to contend for a Big Ten title. However, this is a team which could have some chemistry issues early on with a lot of new parts before it jells together.

Over/Under

OVER 138.5 (-110) is the lean, but don’t get carried away.

These early-season games featuring heavy favorites and huge size discrepancies can lead to blowouts and high scores in the early going.

UCLA should be able to have its way in the frontcourt against the smallish Rider side.

MAAC Tournament: St. Peter’s vs. Rider odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Wednesday’s St. Peter’s vs. Rider MAAC Tournament odds, with college basketball expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The St. Peter’s Peacocks (13-17, 8-13) and Rider Broncs (16-13, 13-7) meet Wednesday in a 2nd-round matchup in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Tournament. Tip from the Jim Whelan Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, N.J., will be approximately 9:30 p.m. ET (ESPN+). Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook’s lines around the St. Peter’s vs. Rider odds, and make our expert college basketball picks, predictions and bets.

St. Peter’s made a historic run in the NCAA Tournament last season, becoming the first No. 15 seed to advance to the Elite Eight. After coach Shaheen Holloway bolted for Seton Hall, and nearly every star from that historic team transferred, it has been a challenging season for the Peacocks.

However, it’s tournament time, and St. Peter’s roughed up Fairfield by a 70-52 score in the opening round of the MAAC tourney. Is it time for another special and unlikely postseason run?

Rider served St. Peter’s its most recent loss, winning 73-60 in Jersey City as a 3.5-point favorite as the Over cashed. The Broncs also destroyed the Peacocks 82-61 on Feb. 3 to cover a 5-point number as the Over also hit.

St. Peter’s vs. Rider picks and predictions

Prediction

Rider 66, St. Peter’s 57

Moneyline

The moneyline was OTB at the time of publishing. Rider would likely be a little on the expensive side for a standalone bet, or a little too much risk for not enough reward.

AVOID, and focus on the spread instead.

Stream select live college basketball games and full replays: Get ESPN+

Against the spread

Roll with RIDER -7.5 (-115) in this MAAC tourney game, as it looks to clip St. Peter’s +7.5 (-105) before it can rev things up and go deep into the postseason.

The Broncs belted the Peacocks in both regular-season meetings, covering both outings rather easily. In fact, Rider won both contests by an average of 17.0 points per game. Ride with Rider to a cover, as the Broncs advance in rather easy fashion.

Over/Under

UNDER 126.5 (-110) is the lean, but it’s only worth playing lightly.

The Under is 5-2 in the last 7 games for St. Peter’s against teams with a winning overall record. St. Peter’s has cashed the Under at a 27-12 clip in the past 39 games after a cover, too. For Rider, the Under is 5-2-1 in the last 8 games when facing a team with a losing overall record, too.

Saint Peter’s at Rider odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Friday’s Saint Peter’s at Rider odds and lines, with college basketball expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Saint Peter’s Peacocks (9-12, 4-8 MAAC) and Rider Broncs (11-9, 8-3) clash in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference showdown Friday. The contest at Alumni Gymnasium in Lawrenceville will tip off at 7 p.m. ET (ESPN3). Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook’s lines around the Saint Peter’s vs. Rider odds, and make our expert college basketball picks, predictions and bets.

Saint Peter’s had a rough January, going 2-6 and 3-5 against the spread (ATS). Shooting woes have caused the Peacocks offense to stall. SPU has shot just 38.6% from the floor in averaging 58.6 points per game over that 2-6 spell.

The Broncs enter February in 2nd place in the MAAC standings, a game behind Siena. Though a slow-tempo team, as is Saint Peter’s, Rider is efficient on offense. The Broncs are on a 5-game win streak and have  outshot their opponents from the field in all 5 games.

Saint Peter’s at Rider picks and predictions

Prediction

Rider 67, Saint Peter’s 62

Moneyline

A fair +250/-250 is in between here. PASS.

Stream select live college basketball games and full replays: Get ESPN+

Against the spread

Rider is a fair favorite around 2 scores. The road team has done remarkably well in this series (25-9-2 ATS last 36 meetings), and there is no value buffer zone with which to work. AVOID.

Over/Under

Both teams play at a slow tempo. And Rider’s tempo has trended slower still over recent games (and the Under is 8-1 in the Broncs’ last 9 games).

But peg this game as involving more addition by 3s and 1s (free throws) than what might appear in a cursory glance at the match-up. Figure Rider forcing SPU into more perimeter looks than it wants. But some regression in the shooting numbers helps Saint Peter’s along. Both teams should get a lot of looks on put-backs, as both a fine offensive rebounding teams.

With the a low zig total on 2 slow teams, a zag is firmly in profit territory. BACK THE OVER 126.5 (-110).

Rider at Rutgers odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Tuesday’s Rider at Rutgers odds and lines, with college basketball expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Rider Broncs (1-3) visit the Rutgers Scarlet Knights (3-1) for an intrastate battle Tuesday in Piscataway. The opening tip at Jersey Mike’s Arena will be at 7 p.m. ET (Big Ten Network). Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook’s lines around the Rider vs. Rutgers odds, and make our expert college basketball picks, predictions and bets.

Rider heads into Tuesday’s game off a back-to-back set Friday and Saturday, both games resulting in hard-fought losses overseas. The Broncs lost 78-68 to Stetson Friday and 90-85 to Central Arkansas Saturday, The games were part of the MAAC/ASUN Dublin Basketball Challenge played in Dublin, Ireland.

The Scarlet Knights have had their defense locking down on foes in the early going. Only in their last game as 4.5-point underdogs against Temple on Friday (a 72-66 loss) did they allow more than 65 points. Through 4 games, Rutgers has held foes to 55.5 points per game on a 37.3% shooting percentage.

Rider at Rutgers picks and predictions

Prediction

Rutgers 76, Rider 62

Moneyline

PASS. Peg the juice here as drowning out true odds in the middle.

Against the spread

With the way Rider played Providence in its season opener (a 66-65 road loss as a 12.5-point underdog) and the way Rutgers has looked in its last 2 games, the Broncs getting more than 13 points is attractive.

However, the recent travel to and from Ireland and the team going into a break after this game makes a sleepwalk certainly possible.

AVOID.

Over/Under

The Over is 4-1 in Rider’s last 5 games dating to last season, and it has hit in 2 straight Rutgers contests.

In a game that figures to have a middle-of-the-road pace, there is value in the Over. Look for an adequate number of 3-pointers, 2nd-chance buckets and transition scores, if not an abundance of them.

BACK THE OVER 136.5 (-115).

Rider at Providence odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Tuesday’s Rider at Providence odds and lines, with college basketball expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Rider Broncs and Providence Friars open their 2022-23 campaigns  Tuesday at Amica Mutual Pavilion. Tip-off is set for 6:30 p.m. ET (FS1). Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook’s lines around the Rider vs. Providence odds, and make our expert college basketball picks, predictions and bets.

Rider went 14-19 last season. The Broncs went 8-12 to finish 8th in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play; they made it to the semifinals in the MAAC Tournament. Rider was a poor-shooting squad and its 45.6% effective field-goal percentage ranked 335th in the nation.

The Friars made it to the Sweet 16 before bowing out of the NCAA Tournament last spring. Providence went 14-3 to win the Big East regular-season title. The Friars finished 27-6, just 1 game shy of the program-record 28 wins in 1973-74.

Rider at Providence picks and predictions

Prediction

Providence 74, Rider 63

Moneyline

PASS. No value here.

Against the spread

In the 1st month of games the last 2 seasons for each side, this is a kind of game — top half vs. bottom half — that has yielded victory margins of 7, 11, 14, 12 and 9 points for Providence. And for Rider, losses around a 12- or 13-point margin. But the frequent-3-launching Friars have also worked in a couple early-season blowouts.

But figure this game as carrying a low enough pace and good enough Broncs’ defense to keep the Providence edge right around 10-12 points. Peg a slight value to a veteran Rider squad bringing back a lot of minutes.

BET THE BRONCS +13.5 (-115).

Over/Under

Two below-average paces clash here. Over last season’s 2nd half, Providence did not create a lot of turnovers. An out-the-chute misfire from beyond the arc makes an even lower total a realistic number.

Consider a partial-unit play on the UNDER 139 (-112).

MAAC Tournament: Rider vs. Monmouth odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Friday’s Rider vs. Monmouth odds and lines, with college basketball expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The No. 9 seed Rider Broncs (14-18) meet the No. 4 seed Monmouth Hawks (20-12) Friday in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Tournament semifinal. Tip-off at Jim Whelan Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, N.J. is slated for 6 p.m. ET. Below, we look at the Rider vs. Monmouth odds and lines, and make our expert college basketball picks, predictions and bets.

Rider has shown some late life, beating Monmouth 74-65 in a regular-season finale Saturday, followed by two MAAC tournament wins over Manhattan (79-67 Tuesday) and Iona (71-70 Wednesday). G Dwight Murray Jr. hit the game-winner with 7.3 seconds left to upset top-seeded Iona in the quarterfinals. Rider now faces a Monmouth squad, which it split with during the regular season. The Hawks won the first meeting at home 60-58 Feb. 18.

Monmouth outlasted Niagara 61-58 in a Thursday quarterfinal – as the No. 4 seed, the Hawks had a bye and did not have to play in the opening round. With a strong defense, the Hawks have held foes under 60 points in three of their last four victories. Monmouth’s 20 wins are the most for the program since 2017 when current head coach King Rice led them to 27 wins.

Monmouth was 11-9 in conference play, while Rider finished 8-12 before the MAAC Tournament.

Rider vs. Monmouth odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Monmouth 71, Rider 63

Money line

PASS. Monmouth (-180) will avenge Saturday’s loss to Rider, but the price is a bit steep.

Plus, the Hawks went 10-for-20 from the free-throw line, while the Broncs went 20-for-25. Monmouth is usually the team with a substantial edge in free-throw frequency, so peg this as an area to flip.

Against the spread

BACK MONMOUTH -3.5 (-112).

The Hawks will play for the second night in a row, but the Broncs will play their third game in four days. Both teams have short rotations, so give the fatigue edge to the Hawks.

The Hawks also have an edge in field-goal shooting and in quality-shot denial. Throw in an expected edge in charity tosses, and this one gets into three-possession territory.

Over/Under

PASS on a well-made total.

MAAC Tournament: Rider vs. Manhattan odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Tuesday’s Rider vs. Manhattan odds and lines, with college basketball expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The ninth-seeded Rider Broncs (12-18) and No. 8 seed Manhattan Jaspers (15-14) clash Tuesday in the opening round of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Tournament. The contest at Jim Whelan Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, N.J., is slated to tip off at 5 p.m. ET. Below, we look at the Rider vs. Manhattan odds and lines, and make our expert college basketball picks, predictions and bets.

Rider went 8-12 across 20 MAAC contests this winter. The Broncs have been capable on defense but have struggled offensively through more than a few stretches. Of late, RU has played in numerous close games. One of those was an overtime loss against this Manhattan squad Feb. 20. Manhattan and Rider split their two regular-season meetings, each winning at home.

The Jaspers play a lot of high-turnover, up-and-down games. They’ve struggled in shooting the ball lately (35.5% last four games) and enter the MAAC bracket having lost three of their last four. Manhattan is led by senior G Jose Perez, who is the league’s top scorer at 18.8 points per game.

Rider vs. Manhattan odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Manhattan 72, Rider 67

Money line

Look for the Jaspers’ shooting to come around, and their defense has been quietly improved over recent games. this senior-laden Manhattan squad also sports an uncanny ability to get to the charity stripe. In their Feb. 20 win over Rider, the Jaspers outscored the Broncs 19-8 at the line. In its last 10 games, Manhattan has managed 22-plus throws seven times.

TAKE THE JASPERS (-108).

Against the spread

PASS. Peg the Manhattan ML play as having the best leverage as a side.

Over/Under

The Over hit in both regular-season meetings and is 4-0 across the last four meetings between these MAAC foes.

Neither hits many 3s, but other score-in-bunches areas do have some tilt toward a higher score. BACK THE OVER 137.5 (-112).

Rider at Monmouth odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Friday’s Rider at Monmouth odds and lines, with college basketball expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Rider Broncs (10-14, 6-8 MAAC) and Monmouth Hawks (16-9, 8-6) clash in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference battle Friday at OceanFirst Bank Center in West Long Branch, N.J. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET. Below, we look at the Rider vs. Monmouth odds and lines, and make our expert college basketball picks, predictions and bets.

Rider fell to Siena 76-75 in overtime Monday. The Broncs outshot the Saints by a hefty margin but were undone by a minus-5 turnover margin and by being outscored 17-6 at the foul line. The setback halted a four-game win streak. Rider now heads on the road where it has won three in a row.

The Hawks lost 70-62 at Iona Sunday and have dropped two of their last three outings. Monmouth is a below-average team offensively but is solid on defense. MU has held opposing fives to a 41.5% mark from the field over its last eight games and is 6-4 across 10 home games.

Rider at Monmouth odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Monmouth 73, 65

Money line

MONMOUTH (-320) is a value price on what figures to be a win percentage upwards of 80%. It does take a certain bankroll to make it a worthwhile play, however.

Against the spread

The home team is 13-3-1 ATS across the last 17 series meetings.

In recent games that fit as comps or near-comps, Monmouth offensive misfires have been too costly and led to some non-covers. Add in the questionable status of third-leading scorer G Shavar Reynolds (undisclosed), and that may have bettors concerned about this line.

However, Rider’s recent successes seem more schedule- and shooting outlier-centered. MU figures as a two-possession favorite in the pure exchange of quality of shots at both ends.

Factor in some major foul-line edge and Hawks by 10-12 points is reasonable. That makes for some VALUE ON MONMOUTH -6.5 (-115).

Over/Under

RU’s offense has been trending the right way a bit, and MU has not played any slow-paced games the last couple of weeks. Peg a lean on the OVER 136.5 (-107).
