Rene Alvarado vs. Roger Gutierrez fight odds, picks and prediction

Breaking down Saturday’s WBA super featherweight title bout between Rene Alvarado and Roger Gutierrez, with boxing betting odds and predictions.

We get an WBA super featherweight title bout between Rene Alvarado and Roger Gutierrez at American Airlines Arena in Dallas on Saturday. The 12-round fight is tentatively scheduled for 4:00 p.m. ET,  and will be televised on DAZN as part of the Ryan Garcia-Luke Campbell undercard. Below, we break down the Alvarado-Gutierrez bout with betting odds, picks and predictions.

Alvarado vs. Gutierrez: Tale of the tape

Alvarado (32-8) will be the second of the brothers fighting in Dallas on Saturday, as his twin Felix fights in an earlier title bout against Deejay Kriel. The Nicaraguan has taken off in recent seasons after a poor start to his career, and now he is on the primary undercard fight and a rising start. Alvarado topped Andrew Cancio in Nov. 2019, a fight ended by injury stoppage. In his 234 professional rounds since 2008 he has registered a 52.5 percent knockout ratio.

But Gutierrez (24-3-1) is a knockout machine, too, who would like to end the storybook situation for Alvarado. In 28 professional bouts, Gutierrez has won by knockout 20 times, or a 71.4 knockout ratio percent. He is 2.5 inches taller than his counterpart but has a 2.5-inch reach disadvantage. This will be a step up in competition for Gutierrez, and he is not likely to land those devastating blows against a much more seasoned competitor.

Alvarado (-700) will cost you seven times your potential return, which is just not a good betting strategy on the 3-way line, or even on the 2-way line. Make more pinpoint bets.

I like ALVARADO BY KO/TKO/TECHNICAL DECISION OR DQ (-300), even though you still have to pay three times your potential return. There is a big risk here. If this fight goes the distance – you lose. But he has a solid record of knockouts over his career, and the reach advantage will mean he is able to keep Gutierrez at bay.

Block three rounds for an Alvarado victory, too. Yes, you would lose two of the wagers, but if he wins in one of the three rounds you will be well ahead. I like ALVARADO IN ROUND 8 (+900), ALVARADO IN ROUND 9 (+1000) and ALVARADO IN ROUND 10 (+1200).
