2023 Genesis Scottish Open odds, course history and picks to win

Last year at the Renaissance, Fleetwood tied for fourth.

Before the world of golf heads to Royal Liverpool for the 151st Open next week, the PGA Tour and DP World Tour are set to host the 2023 Genesis Scottish Open at the Renaissance Club in North Berwick.

An absolutely loaded field is set to tee off Thursday, including defending champion Xander Schauffele. He’ll be joined by world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler, Rory McIlroy, Justin Thomas, Jordan Spieth, Rickie Fowler and Patrick Cantlay.

Schauffele, who last tied for 19th at the Travelers Championship, beat Kurt Kitayama by one shot last season to earn himself the title. In 2021, Min Woo Lee survived a playoff against Thomas Detry and Matt Fitzpatrick for his second DP World Tour win.

Xander Schauffele captures Genesis Scottish Open, wins second straight start

Schauffele captured the Genesis Scottish Open for his seventh career PGA Tour title.

It has been a pretty good week for Xander Schauffele.

On Tuesday, he captured the JP McManus Pro-Am in Ireland. Come Sunday, it was his turn to hoist yet another trophy.

Schauffele played brilliantly on the back nine at the Renaissance Club to capture the 2022 Genesis Scottish Open. He shot an even-par 70 during the final round to win his seventh PGA Tour title, finishing at 7 under for the week.

He trailed by 11 strokes after the first round.

It’s also Schauffele’s second straight professional win after he claimed the Travelers Championship two weeks ago in Connecticut. He’s the first golfer to win consecutive starts on the PGA Tour since Scottie Scheffler won the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play and the Masters.

Schauffele birdied his first two holes, but bogeys on three of the final four holes on the front nine gave others chasing him hope. Birdies on Nos. 14 and 16, however, helped Schauffele pull away from the field, though a bogey on the 18th made his winning margin only one.

Kurt Kitayama finished solo second, his second runner-up of the season, after a 4-under round of 66, one shot behind Schauffele. J.H. Kim, a 20-year-old from South Korea, finished in third, his best career result on the PGA Tour.

Now, Schauffele, searching for his first major, heads to St. Andrews for the 2022 Open Championship as the hottest golfer in the world.

2022 Genesis Scottish Open Sunday tee times, TV and streaming info

Everything you need to know for the fourth round of the Genesis Scottish Open.

With only one round remaining, Xander Schauffele is looking for yet another victory.

Schauffele shot a 4-under 66 to take a two-shot lead heading to Sunday. He won his last PGA Tour start at the Travelers Championship, and is looking to become the first golfer to win consecutive starts since Scottie Scheffler did it at the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play and the Masters.

Schauffele also won the JP McManus Pro-Am on Tuesday. Safe to say he’s playing good golf right now.

Other golfers, like Rafa Cabrera Bello, Jordan Spieth and U.S. Open champion Matt Fitzpatrick, also remain in the hunt.

From tee times to TV and streaming info, here’s what you need to know for the fourth round of the 2022 Genesis Scottish Open. All times listed are ET.

2022 Genesis Scottish Open Saturday tee times, TV and streaming info

Everything you need to know for the third round of the Genesis Scottish Open.

The second round of the 2022 Genesis Scottish Open is complete, and the course fought back Friday, especially in the afternoon.

Cameron Tringale, who tied a course record Thursday, remains in the lead searching for his first PGA Tour win. At 7-under 133, Tringale has a three-shot lead over Gary Woodland and Doug Ghim.

Those who played in the morning wave navigated the par 70, 7,237-yard Renaissance Club much easier than the afternoon groups. Xander Schauffele and U.S. Open champion Matt Fitzpatrick, who shot 5-under and 4-under respectively on Friday morning, sit four shots back.

However, numerous big names missed the cut, like Scottie Scheffler and Justin Thomas.

2022 Genesis Scottish Open odds, field notes, best bets and picks

With two top 10s in the last three years, can Justin Thomas finally win at the Renaissance?

A week before the final major of 2022, a major championship-type field has traveled to the Renaissance Club for the Genesis Scottish Open.

Fourteen of the world’s top 15 players are expected to tee it up Thursday, with the lone missing name being No. 3 Rory McIlroy (who played in this week’s JP McManus Pro-Am at Adare Manor).

Last year’s champion Min Woo Lee, who made the Scottish Open his second DP World Tour win, tied for 27th in his last PGA Tour start (U.S. Open at The Country Club).

This event is co-sanctioned by the Tour and DP World Tour, so LIV Golf members have been denied entry into the event — for most, anyway. Ian Poulter, Adrian Otaegui, and Justin Harding had their DP World Tour suspensions temporarily stayed Monday, which could allow them to play in the event.

Golf course

Renaissance Club | Par 70 | 7,237

The par-3 17th hole is a welcome respite before the difficult 18th hole that plays at 485 yards and likely into the prevailing wind at Renaissance Club.

Key statistics

  • SG: Tee to green
  • Par 3 efficiency 200-225 yards

Watch: Using a 90-foot eagle putt, Justin Thomas near the top at Scottish Open

With a number of big names in the field, Justin Thomas needed a big putt to get near the top of the leaderboard at the Scottish Open.

With a number of big names in the field, Justin Thomas needed a big putt to get near the top of the leaderboard during the first round of the abrdn Scottish Open.

Thomas holed a 90-foot eagle putt en route to a 65 in North Berwick, Scotland, and he sits a single stroke off the pace after the opening day of action.

On the par-5 7th hole, Thomas hit a long, winding putt that dropped, helping him fire a 32 on the front at a surprisingly forgiving Renaissance Club. Thomas closed out the round with birdies on two of the final two holes and trails only Jack Senior, who opened with a 64.

Thomas said he felt the course was even more there for the taking, but he enjoyed a relatively calm opening day.

“Bogey-free made it pretty stress-free. I was a little upset or disappointed with some of the iron shots I hit, felt I could have hit them closer, ” he said. “But it’s nice to play that last hole as well as I did to hopefully generate some momentum.”

The Rolex Series tournament, which features larger purses than many of the European Tour events, has attracted a number of top names. Lee Westwood is also at 6 under while Jon Rahm, Tommy Fleetwood, Matt Fitzpatrick, Ian Poulter and Ryan Palmer are among a thick pack two off the lead. Others in solid position after the opening round include Xander Schauffele (4 under), and Tyrrell Hatton (2 under). Rory McIlroy, Collin Morikawa and Billy Horschel all shot 70 and sit six off the lead.

The wind was not much of a factor during the first round but it’s expected to pick up as the week progresses.

While Thomas hasn’t been slumping, it’s been an unusually lukewarm stretch for the player who sits third in the Official World Golf Ranking and No. 6 in the Golfweek/Sagarin rankings. He hasn’t cracked the top 10 in any of his last eight starts since winning The Players Championship, and he missed the cut at the PGA Championship on Kiawah Island, shooting a pair of 75s in the process.

When asked if he was hoping to face tougher conditions in preparation for next week’s British Open at Royal St. George’s, Thomas insisted he wasn’t thinking about next week.

“I don’t care,” Thomas said. “As long as I’m holding the trophy at the end of the week, I’m pretty pleased with that preparation for The Open.”
