Florida football places 16 players on Reese’s Senior Bowl Watch List

Thanks to the NCAA transfer portal and some eligibility tweaks, the Gators have a large number of players on the Reese’s Senior Bowl Watch List.

Florida football has 16 players on the 2024 Reese’s Senior Bowl Watch List, according to an announcement made on Wednesday. The Gators who made the list include one graduate, four redshirt seniors, seven seniors, three redshirt juniors and one junior.

The Orange and Blue have steadily increased their presence on the list over the past three years, earning six selections in 2022 and nine in 2023 before nearly doubling that this year. The NCAA transfer portal has provided Florida with more than half of those mentioned on this year’s honor roll.

This will be the second year that all draft-eligible players are included in the talent pool and the first year that underclassmen were included on the watch list. Shemar James is the only third-year player included on Florida’s list.

A total of 116 Gators have participated in the Senior Bowl throughout its 75-year history.

Reese’s Senior Bowl watch list includes 9 Florida Gators

Nine Gators made the cut for this year’s Reese’s Senior Bowl watch list, including a few big names.

The 2023 Reese’s Senior Bowl watch list was released on Wednesday, and this year’s lineup included nine members of the Florida football program.

The nine Gators to make the cut are center Kingsley Eguakun, cornerback Jaydon Hill, defensive lineman Cam Jackson, quarterback Graham Mertz, inside linebacker Teradja Mitchell, safety R.J. Moten, wide receiver Ricky Pearsall, defensive end Princely Umanmielen and tight end Dante Zanders.

Most notably, Umanmielen has been named to two other prestigious watch lists — the Lombardi Award and Chuck Bednarik Award – as well as the coaches’ All-SEC third team. Eguakun was also named to the Rimington Trophy Watch List while Pearsall was listed among the Maxwell Award Watch List contenders.

A total of 114 members of the Orange and Blue have participated in the annual event, with Richard Gouraige and O’Cyrus Torrence — members of one of the best offensive lines in the country — getting the nod last season.

The Reese’s Senior Bowl is the longest-running all-star game, having taken place for 74 contiguous years in Mobile, Alabama. It is also considered the opening salvo of the NFL draft’s evaluation process after all of the games have been played.

This season’s game will be played at the University of South Alabama’s venue, Hancock Whitney Stadium, on Saturday, Feb. 3, 2024. Kickoff time is scheduled for 11 a.m. EST and the action can be followed on the NFL Network.
