Vikings coach Mike Zimmer gives his takes on candy at 2020 NFL Combine

Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer has a preference for Twizzlers, Reese’s.

The NFL Combine is a time for coaches, scouts and other team employees to evaluate some of the top talent going to the pros next season.

It’s also a time where there are a lot of media members asking questions, and not all of those questions have to do with the current draft class.

Vikings coach Mike Zimmer got his share of unrelated questions at the NFL Combine.

Asked about his choice between Twizzlers and Red Vines, Zimmer answered Twizzlers to a group of reporters.

Next, he was asked about his preference between Reese’s and Twix, Zimmer said Reese’s.

Do these answers actually say something about Zimmer’s decision making as coach of the Vikings? Absolutely not. It is all in good fun, though.

Red Vines have been in the news recently. LeBron James of the Los Angeles Lakers enjoyed some of the candy while sitting on the bench in what ended up a 118-109 win over the Pelicans, per Business Insider.

Shaq’s Red Vines vs. Twizzlers comments after LeBron video ignite a debate on Twitter

Red Vines are an actual brand!

LeBron James ate some Red Vines — and yes, it appeared to be Red Vines, there was a shot of the packaging from TNT’s cameras — on Tuesday night after his huge night in the Los Angeles Lakers’ 118-109 win over the New Orleans Pelicans, a moment fit for a king.

But when the footage aired on TNT’s postgame show, Shaquille O’Neal declared that “white guys call it Red Vines, black people call it Twizzlers.”

When it was pointed out to Shaq that there are two different brands, that Red Vines are actually different, he didn’t care.

That got some folks on Twitter to reach out and let him know the difference, as well as mention they’ve never heard of Red Vines. Here’s the original footage:

LeBron eating Red Vines on the bench after scoring 40 is a GOAT move

Yum.

Mr. James plus Red Vines equals crazy delicious.

That is, it was the best for fans who watched LeBron downing the candy on the bench after dropping 40 points in a win over the New Orleans Pelicans.

And why not eat something sweet after a performance like that? It’s certainly not every day James goes off like that in the scoring column, especially in the regular season — as far as I can tell, that’s what the TNT broadcast was talking about as they watched the courtside scene.

So that’s the right move. Go on and celebrate with some candy in front of everyone, and while you’re at it, get fans into arguing if Red Vines or Twizzlers were the preferred straw-shaped candy:

This is the best piece of LeBron and candy content since he asked someone to find candy for his daughter in 2017.
