The Boston Red Sox (10-20) go for a second straight win over the Toronto Blue Jays (14-14) Wednesday at 6:37 p.m. ET at Sahlen Field in Buffalo. The Blue Jays are using their Triple-A facility as their home park this season. We analyze the Red Sox-Blue Jays betting odds and lines, with MLB picks and best bets.

Red Sox at Blue Jays: Projected starting pitchers

RHP Colten Brewer vs. RHP Julian Merryweather

Brewer: 0-1, 3.50 ERA, 1.556 WHIP, 17 K, 10 BB, 7 ER, 18 IP in 9 G (2 GS)

  • Has made his first two career starts this season and went a season-long of four innings in a Red Sox win against the Baltimore Orioles last Friday.
  • He has allowed just two home runs on the season but 16 other hits to go with the 10 walks and a hit batter.

Making his big-league debut this season, the 28-year-old Merryweather has thrown 3 1/3 IP of shutout ball.

  • In combined work at Double-A and Triple-A in 2017, he posted a 5.32 ERA in 25 starts. He missed the 2018 and 2019 seasons recovering from Tommy John surgery.
  • Merryweather isn’t expected to go deep into this game, though, with Shun Yamaguchi likely setting up to chew up a few innings after a brief appearance by the starter.

Prediction

Blue Jays 8, Red Sox 6

Ramp up the total given how hitter-friendly Sahlen Field has played; the Blue Jays (.745 OPS versus RHP, 12th) and Red Sox (.735, 16th) success versus RHPs; and the lackluster quality of starters toeing the rubber.

Moneyline (ML)

  • Red Sox (+115)
  • Blue Jays (-129)

Though the Blue Jays are the wiser bet at their “home,” I’d rather try to make more of a profit on this 50-50 situation. PASS.

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

  • Red Sox +1.5 (-176)
  • Blue Jays -1.5 (+145)

Here’s where we can profit of the Jays facing Boston’s bullpen and tilting the scales in their favor by more than one run. BET the Blue Jays -1.5 (+145).

New to sports betting? A winning $10 bet on the Blue Jays’ run line would return a profit of $14.50.

Over/Under (O/U)

  • Over 11.5 (-110)
  • Under 11.5 (-110)

The reward is smaller, but going with the Over 11.5 (-110) is better, given the weak pitchers and the fact that the Jays are 7-3 on the Over/Under at home.

New to sports betting? You would need to win an $11 bet on the Over to make a profit of $10.

Boston Red Sox at Toronto Blue Jays odds, picks and best bets

Previewing Tuesday’s Boston Red Sox at Toronto Blue Jays sports betting odds and lines, with MLB betting picks, tips and best bets.

The Toronto Blue Jays (14-13) host the Boston Red Sox (9-20) for a three-game set at their Triple-A facility at Buffalo’s Sahlen Field, beginning Tuesday at 6:37 p.m. ET. We analyze the Red Sox-Blue Jays betting odds and lines, with MLB picks and best bets.

Red Sox at Blue Jays: Projected starting pitchers

LHP Kyle Hart vs. RHP Chase Anderson

Hart: 0-1, 11.12 ERA, 9 K, 7 BB, 7 ER, 5 2/3 IP, 2 starts

  • The 27-year-old, former 19th-round draft choice made his MLB debut this season after pitching in Double-A and Triple-A last season.
  • He allowed two earned runs over 3 2/3 innings in his last start for a marked improvement over his first outing when he allowed five earned runs over just two innings.

Anderson: 0-0, 2.79 ERA, 7 K, 3 BB, 3 ER, 9 2/3 IP, 3 starts

  • Hasn’t gone past 3 2/3 innings in any of his three starts, but allowed just one earned run each time.
  • Has allowed 20 fly balls to just 10 ground balls.

Prediction

Blue Jays 9, Red Sox 5

Moneyline (ML)

The BLUE JAYS (-118) are a fine play as slight favorites in their home site for the 2020 season. The Red Sox (+105) come in off of back-to-back losses to the Baltimore Orioles to split a four-game set. The Jays are 7-2 in their last nine games, coming off a 2-2 split with the Tampa Bay Rays, and recently swept those same Orioles in three games while outscoring them 20-11.

Boston won two of three against Toronto at Fenway Park earlier this month. All three games played to the Under and the Red Sox went 2-1 against the spread. Expect different results in Buffalo for this three-game set.

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

As noted above, Anderson’s surface numbers are much better than he deserves early in his season, but Hart has been every bit as bad as his numbers show. He’s inducing a soft-contact rate of just 10.5% with a 47.4% fly-ball rate, though he is being hurt by an inflated .412 BABIP.

The BLUE JAYS -1.5 (+155) must be backed on the alternate run line for the win by at least 2 runs. They’re better equipped for a short outing from their starter with the fourth-ranked bullpen by ERA (3.15). Red Sox relievers combine for 5.75 ERA to rank 29th in baseball.

Over/Under (O/U)

Take the OVER 11.5 (+110) on another alternate line for the half-run hook and a higher profit margin. These teams hit the Under three games in a row at Fenway Park just a couple weeks ago, but the Jays enter this series 5-3-2 against the OU across their last 10 games.

The Jays have also gone 4-3 against the OU in their seven games at Sahlen Field this season.
