Every record set, milestone achieved by Chiefs TE Travis Kelce in Week 17

Check out all of the the records set and milestones achieved by #Chiefs TE Travis Kelce during Kansas City’s Week 17 win over the #Steelers.

Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce cemented his status as one of the most prolific pass-catchers in NFL history during the defending Super Bowl champions’ Week 17 victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers.

With his eight-catch performance against the Steelers, Kelce surpassed the 90-reception mark for the seventh straight season, the most among any receiver in NFL history.

The legendary tight end also broke a franchise record in Wednesday’s game, taking over the No. 1 spot for receiving touchdowns in Chiefs history.

As if that weren’t impressive enough, Kelce also recorded the 1,000th catch of his career.

Take a look at all the records set or milestones achieved by Kelce in the Chiefs’ win over Pittsburgh:

Consecutive seasons with 90+ receptions

Most receiving touchdowns in Chiefs history

1,000 Career receptions

Kelce will have plenty of time to celebrate his latest accomplishments as Kansas City takes some time off after a brutal 11-day window in which the Chiefs played three games between December 15 and Christmas Day.

Vikings offense makes more history Sunday vs. Seahawks

Minnesota Vikings quarterback Sam Darnold put himself and the team in the NFL record books in multiple ways on Sunday vs. the Seahawks.

The Minnesota Vikings offense has been no stranger to the record books this season. Despite many believing 2024 would be a down season for the Vikings after handing the reigns over to Sam Darnold, the Vikings have exceeded all expectations to become one of the top offenses — and teams — in the entire league.

The tandem of Justin Jefferson and Jordan Addison has been instrumental in the Vikings’ success this season, with both players topping 800 yards and grabbing 8+ touchdowns. They also became the first tandem in team history to have 100+ yards, and each of them caught two touchdowns in their game against Kirk Cousins and the Atlanta Falcons.

In the team’s second game against the Chicago Bears this season, Darnold and running back Aaron Jones got in on the assault on the Vikings’ record books. In that game, the Vikings had their first game with a 300+ yard passer, 100+ yard rusher, and two 100+ yard receivers in more than 20 years.

On Sunday, though, it wasn’t just the team record books that a member of the Vikings had their eyes on, it was the NFL record books. Darnold etched both his name and the Vikings as a team in the record books on Sunday with his performance against the Seattle Seahawks. On an individual note, Darnold finished the game with a quarterback rating of 112.3, making Sunday the 12th game. Darnold has had a quarterback rating of over 100, which is an NFL record for a quarterback in his first season with a team.

Darnold wasn’t done there, however. With his three touchdown passes on Sunday, Darnold not only extended his career-high mark to 32, he also made history for the Minnesota Vikings. With Darnold’s first touchdown, his 30th of the season, the Vikings became the first team in league history to have six quarterbacks with one or more seasons of 30+ touchdown passes. Darnold joins Kirk Cousins, Brett Favre, Daunte Culpepper, Randall Cunningham, and Warren Moon in that illustrious club.

Pretty good for a quarterback that nearly everyone counted out at the beginning of the season.

Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes on connecting with Travis Kelce for another career milestone

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes on connecting with Travis Kelce for another career milestone | @EdEastonJr

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes helped his teammate Travis Kelce achieve another career milestone, tying Tony Gonzalez for the most touchdown receptions in franchise history. Mahomes explained the record-tying connection during his postgame press conference on Sunday.

“Yeah, I mean fourth-and-goal – (Head) Coach (Andy) Reid giving us a chance to get a touchdown. Trav (Travis Kelce) read it right. He kind of had a read-type option on that play and he got the DB (defensive back) to go outside. He (Broncos CB Ja’Quan McMillian) slips a little bit, and then Trav just kind of curls it in there.” said Mahomes. “I gave him the ball, and that was kind of my first read – I had a couple of other options there, but when your first read’s open, man, you just fire it to him.”

Kelce recorded eight receptions for 64 yards and one touchdown in the Chiefs’ Week 10 win over the Denver Broncos. He has 95 career touchdown receptions, including the postseason. The multiple-time All-Pro passed Jimmy Graham for the fourth-most touchdown receptions by a tight end in NFL history, including the postseason. He trails only Antonio Gates, Gonzalez, and Rob Gronkowski.

The Chiefs star also has 60 receptions this season. It is the sixth player all-time with at least 60 receptions in 11 consecutive seasons, joining Gonzalez, Larry Fitzgerald, Jason Witten, Jerry Rice, and Derrick Mason.

Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes is on pace to break multiple records vs. Bengals

Kansas City #Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes is on pace to break multiple records vs. Cincinnati #Bengals | @EdEastonJr

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes is beginning to own the records and accomplishments. He became the franchise leader in passing yards during the Week 1 victory over the Baltimore Ravens, and that appears to be the first of many to fall this season.

The Chiefs reigning Super Bowl MVP will only be making his 98th career start on Sunday. With a win against Cincinnati, Mahomes will tie Tom Brady and Pro Football Hall of Famer Roger Staubach at 76 career wins. All three would be tied for most wins by a quarterback in his first 100 career starts.

Mahomes is also likely to surpass Matthew Stafford for the most completions by a quarterback in his first 100 career starts with five. Three touchdown passes will put Mahomes on target to overtake Aaron Rodgers’ 222 touchdown passes for the most by a quarterback in his first 100 career starts.

Mahomes’ destined Hall of Fame career could see many more records fall his way before he decides to hang up the cleats. He won’t personally dwell on these accolades without a victory over their long-time AFC rival Bengals this Sunday.

Notre Dame alum Arike Ogunbowale becomes all-time leading scorer for Dallas Wings

The Notre Dame alum is putting up lots of points in a hurry.

Arike Ogunbowale is now the all-time leading scorer for the WNBA’s Dallas Wings. The Notre Dame alum has 3,972 points after scoring 11 against the New York Liberty in a 99-67 loss Thursday night.

She’s in just her sixth season in the league and reached the mark in game number 193. She passes Deanna “Tweety” Nolan, who needed nine years and 293 games to reach 3,971. Ogunbowale, a guard who played at Notre Dame from 2015 to 2019, got the record on free throws with 4:27 remaining in Thursday’s game.

She needs just 28 points to reach 4,000, and if she does that in her next two games, she will pass Breanna Stewart to be the WNBA player who reaches that mark the fastest.

Stewart needed 196 games to hit that mark.

Notre Dame Football: All-Time Leading Scorers in Program History

Points, points, and more points

Wherever you look these days for sports news its difficult to miss Iowa women’s basketball great Caitlin Clark and here incredible run for the Hawkeyes.  She recently became women’s basketball’s all-time leading scorer in the college ranks and has a chance to track down Pete Maravich to become college basketball’s all-time leading scorer, regardless of gender.

That got our minds running a bit here at Fighting Irish Wire – or at least got us to look up the leading scorers in the history of a few Notre Dame sports.

Geoffrey Clark (no relation to Caitlin, he claims) recently compiled Notre Dame’s all-time top scorers in women’s basketball history.

Today we share with you the 25 all-time leading scorers in the long history of the Notre Dame football program.  Check it out below:

Notre Dame Football: All-Time Single Season Passing Leaders

Which year was the best by a Notre Dame quarterback that you remember?

Notre Dame football is as big of brand as there is in all of college football and it didn’t get that way from being mediocre.

Instead, it was a lot of winning that went into building a tradition that stands up as well as any in the history of the game.

But who is the best player at the most important position in the history of Notre Dame football?

We’re talking about quarterback of course and the numbers we have for you today won’t give that answer, but they will show you some of the most memorable seasons by quarterbacks in Notre Dame history.

Here are Notre Dame’s top-10 all-time single season passing leaders:

NFL’s All-Time Winningest Playoff Quarterbacks

Plenty of surprising things on this list. What stands out the most to you?

With Super Bowl 58 approaching, Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes is taking aim at more history.

He’s already as talented of player to ever play quarterback in the NFL and as one would expect, the wins have followed.  By beating the Baltimore Ravens in the AFC Championship, Mahomes recorded his 14th career postseason win all-time which tied him for the third-most all-time.

Who else has Mahomes passed with playoff victories over the past couple of seasons?  And how far does he have to go before he catches the two remaining legends ahead of him?

Here is every starting quarterback to win six or more playoff games since the AFL-NFL merger in 1970.  A somewhat surprising fact – of the 26 players to start and win six or more playoff games, they played their college football at 23 different colleges and universities.  One of just three teams to have more than one player accomplish the feat is Notre Dame – but before scrolling can you guess the other two?

Check it all out below and get your answers!

Chiefs HC Andy Reid on TE Travis Kelce: ‘He chose not to play’ vs. Chargers

Kansas City #Chiefs head coach Andy Reid told reporters that TE Travis Kelce chose not to play vs. the Los Angeles #Chargers in Week 18.

The narrative often surrounding the end of a regular season for most players is ensuring their individual goals are met without hurting the ultimate team plans. The Kansas City Chiefs had two players with very different goals in their sights ahead of Sunday’s victory over the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 18.

Chiefs head coach Andy Reid allowed Pro Bowler Chris Jones to play and succeed in securing his 10.5 sacks on the season to clinch a contract incentive worth over one million dollars. During the postgame press conference, he revealed that tight end Travis Kelce opted not to try to get 16 yards to reach 1,000 yards on the season and continue his iconic streak.

“He is a humble, humble guy,” Reid explained. “It’s different because of the financial part of it with Chris (Jones). He didn’t want to be selfish or come across as selfish. All the players want him to play, but he just goes, ‘You know what? I don’t like the way it feels. He’s not into that. He chose not to play, and I completely understand it. But that’s him. Most guys would have gone out and probably done it, but he said, ‘I’ve got a lot of records on this one here; I’m not going to do it this way.”

Kelce’s decision was a team-first move to avoid the risk of injury in a game that did not affect the postseason. The Chiefs dealt with several injuries during the game, most notably on the offensive line with tackles Jawaan Taylor and Wanya Morris.

Notre Dame football all-time vs. the Pac-12

Tough to do better against a conference all-time than Notre Dame has fared against the Pac-12…

It seems as if we are in the final days of the Pac 12 as a conference.  Whether you love realignment or hate it, the Pac 12’s mark in college sports is undeniable.  We focus on football as most do but across all collegiate sports no conference has won more national championships than the Pac 12.

But after this coming season the heavyweights of the conference will leave.  Oregon, UCLA, USC, and Washington are all Big Ten bound while others are headed to the Big 12.

For Notre Dame, it’s the end of an era for a conference that has played a big part in it’s history and helping it become a national school.  That largely goes with the USC rivalry but playing Stanford in the Rose Bowl way back in the 1920’s didn’t hurt the brand, either.

So as the Pac-12 enters its final season of football – at least as its constructed, here is a look at how Notre Dame has fared all-time against its current 12 member programs.
