After over 20 matches without a loss, which dates back to December, Real Madrid hit a little bit of a wall after a shocking elimination to Real Sociedad in the Spanish Cup and a draw against Celta Vigo in the league. Both matches were at home, which brought some doubt after a near perfect run of results and performances by Zinedine Zidane’s team. Real Madrid is now just one point above Barcelona, who plays before the team this weekend and could be at the top of the standings by the time Madrid kick-off against Levante.
Following Saturday’s game against Levante, Madrid has one of its biggest weeks of the season. The team plays the first leg of its Champions League Round of 16 against Manchester City, then welcomes Barça for a potential title-deciding El Clásico at Santiago Bernabéu. Because of those two massive games that could shape its entire season, Madrid can’t be faulted for looking ahead and Zidane is expected to rest a few of his big stars. That’s where Levante can take advantage. Levante has won four of its last six at home and is known to make things incredibly tough for big teams.
