Florida inches up CBS Sports college football rerank ahead of bowl game

Florida is outside of the top 30 still in CBS Sports’ rerank while their Gasparilla Bowl opponents are just inside the mark.

A wild weekend of college football confernece championship games has set the table for the rest of the postseason, with the bowl games and College Football Playoff pictures now in place.

Unfortunately, the Florida Gators were unable to play in this year’s Southeastern Conference Championship Game in Atlanta. Instead, the Georgia Bulldogs and Texas Longhorns faced off, with the former walking away with the trophy.

Nonetheless, [autotag]Billy Napier[/autotag] and Co. will be playing in a bowl game this December after missing out last year. The Tulane Green Wave awaits them in Tampa, where they will face off in the Gasparilla Bowl.

Ahead of the game, CBS Sports writer Jerry Palm lifted the Orange and Blue one spot to No. 33 out of 134 Football Bowl Subdivision schools in his rerank. That puts Florida between the No. 32 LSU Tigers — who the Gators upset in Week 12 — and No. 34 Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns, Napier’s former job site.

Tulane is ranked No. 29 after getting throttled in the American Athletic Conference title game by the Army Black Knights.

CBS Sports re-rank top 10

The Oregon Ducks once again remained perched at No. 1 while Georgia moved up three spots into second place; the Notre Dame Irish also moved up a spot to No. 3.

The Longhorns and Penn State Nittany Lions both fell two places to Nos. 4 and 5, respectively, while the Ohio State Buckeyes, Indiana Hoosiers, Tennessee Volunteers and Boise State Broncos all moved up a spot, respectively. The SMU Mustangs fell four spots to No. 10.

Florida holds steady in The Athletic’s re-rank at end of regular season

The 2024 college football regular season has come to an end, and the Florida Gators remain at No. 33 in The Athletic’s re-rank after beating FSU.

A third straight win for the Florida Gators didn’t yield any gains in the end-of-regular-season update to The Athletic’s re-rank.

Florida remains at No. 33 following a 20-point win over rival Florida State, but there’s still room for improvement with Billy Napier’s team bowl-eligible once again.

For the second straight week, Florida football prevailed over a top-25 opponent at home in the Swamp — a turn of events that has changed the trajectory of the 2024 campaign entirely for the Gators.

Florida’s re-rank after Week 14

Following a 10-spot jump in the re-rank last week, author Chris Vannini decided to hold the Gators steady at No. 33 to end the regular season. That puts Florida between the No. 32 Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets and No. 34 Baylor Bears.

The Athletic isn’t the only outlet to hold Florida stagnant in its re-rank this week. Jerry Palm of CBS Sports kept the Gators at No. 34 in his re-rank, and USA TODAY Sports dropped Florida a spot to No. 37 despite the win.

Looking at the rest of the SEC, the Gators are ahead of six other programs:  Arkansas Razorbacks (No. 41); Vanderbilt Commodores (No. 42); Oklahoma Sooners (No. 49); Auburn Tigers (No. 60); Kentucky Wildcats (No. 72); and Mississippi State Bulldogs (No. 104).

The Athletic’s Week 14 Top 10 re-rank

Rivalry week provided several upsets, which shook up the top 10 schools in the re-rank. The Oregon Ducks remain on top of the list, but the Ohio State Buckeyes are no longer No. 2 after a loss to Michigan.

The Texas Longhorns are now second, followed by the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, who leapfrogged the Penn State Nittany Lions, respectively. The Georgia Bulldogs are the new No. 5 program, and the Buckeyes dropped down to No. 6.

Rounding out the top 10 are the Tennessee Volunteers, SMU Mustangs, Indiana Hoosiers and Boise State Broncos.

What’s next for Florida?

That is the end of the regular-season schedule for the Orange and Blue. Now the Gator Nation waits with bated breath to hear which bowl game their beloved football team will play in this December. Stay tuned to this website for more information.

Gators unmoved in CBS Sports rerank after beating FSU in Week 14

Florida remains among the top 35 in CBS Sports’ final rerank of the 2024 regular season.

The Gator Nation has been riding a high these past few weeks which peaked this past weekend in Tallahassee, where Florida football beat the Florida State Seminoles, 31-11, to clinch a winning season for the first time in four years.

While Saturday’s victory was not as impressive as the ones over the LSU Tigers and Ole Miss Rebels, respectively — both of whom were top-25 teams when they fell to the Orange and Blue — it was a landmark triumph in a heated instr-state rivalry game.

However, not everyone was impressed with what they witnessed inside Doak Campbell Stadium in Week 14. That includes CBS Sports writer Jerry Palm, who apparently felt very “meh” about Florida’s performance in his college football rerank.

Following the Gators’ seventh victory of the 2024 campaign. Palm kept them at No. 34 in his rankings, slotting Florida between No. 33 LSU and the No. 35 Iowa Hawkeyes — both of whom fell two spots to their current position.

The Oregon Ducks once again remained perched at No. 1 while the Texas Longhorns moved up a spot to No. 2 while the Penn State Nittany Lions advanced two places to No. 3. The Notre Dame Fighting Irish and Georgia Bulldogs wrap up the top five, respectively.

The SMU Mustangs moved up a spot to No. 6 while the Ohio State Buckeyes fell five places to No. 7. The Indiana Hoosiers, Tennessee Volunteers and Boise State Broncos, respectively, to round out the top 10.

Florida drops a spot in USA TODAY Sports rerank despite beating FSU

Somehow, the Gators lost ground in USA TODAY Sports’ Week 14 rerank despite a 20-point win over FSU.

Florida football wrapped up its 2024 regular-season campaign on a high note, running off three straight wins that culminated with a 31-11 victory over the Florida State Seminoles inside Doak Campbell Stadium.

The late-season surge has put the Gators back into the postseason picture thanks to a pair of top-25 wins ahead of the triumph in Tallahassee. Now armed with seven wins and a clinched winning record, Billy Napier and Co. are heading to a bowl game for the first time in two years.

However, despite the hard-fought win, USA TODAY Sports writer Paul Myerberg was apparently unimpressed with what he saw on Saturday night, docking the Orange and Blue a spot in his Week 14 rerank.

Florida’s re-rank after Week 14

Myerberg dropped the Gators one spot after the Week 14 win, falling from No. 36 to No. 37. That puts Florida between the No. 36 Texas Tech Red Raiders and No. 38 Baylor Bears.

Napier’s crew is ahead of six other Southeastern Conference schools in the rankings: Vanderbilt Commodores (No. 45); Arkansas Razorbacks (No. 46);  Oklahoma Sooners (No. 48); Auburn Tigers (No. 80); Kentucky Wildcats (No. 89); Mississippi State Bulldogs (No. 109).

The Oregon Ducks once again remained in the top perch this week while the Texas Longhorns rose two spots to No. 2. The Notre Dame Fighting Irish, Penn State Nittany Lions and Georgia Bulldogs, respectively, round out the teams in the top five.

The Southern Methodist Mustangs moved up two spots to No. 6 while the Ohio State Buckeyes tumbled five places to No. 7. The Indiana Hoosiers, Tennessee Volunteers and South Carolina Gamecocks wrap up the top 10, respectively.

Florida football biggest mover in CBS Sports’ Week 13 re-rank

The Gators jumped 18 spots in CBS Sports’ college football rerank thanks to a two-game win streak over top-25 opponents.

Florida football is riding high on a two-game winning streak against a pair of top-25 teams, which has quickly turned the season around and has the Gator Nation looking forward to a postseason appearance.

Victories over the LSU Tigers and Ole Miss Rebels have reinforced the program’s commitment to third-year head coach Billy Napier, whose team faced the toughest schedule in the country — and in recent memory — this fall. Now 6-5 with a rivalry game remaining on the slate, a winning season in Gainesville is not unfathomable.

The Orange and Blue have been climbing up the rankings during its recent surge, which includes an 18-spot jump — the biggest move this week — to No. 34 in CBS Sports writer Chip Patterson’s rerank of all 134 FBS schools.

“Back-to-back wins against LSU and now Ole Miss have presented our voters with a difficult thought experiment: Do you rank Florida based on its loss count or the quality of those losses?” Patterson asks.

“The Gators are 6-5, but all five of the teams that it’s fallen to are in the top 20 of our current CBS Sports 134, including four teams in the top 11. It’s going to be difficult to crack the top 30 with five losses, but it’s clear the Ole Miss win has led to a reassessment of Florida’s profile.”

Florida now sits between the No. 33 Iowa Hawkeyes and No. 35 Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets.

The top three schools remained unchanged, with the Oregon Ducks once again perched at No. 1 while the Ohio State Buckeyes held onto the second spot followed by the Texas Longhorns. The Notre Dame Fighting Irish moved up two places to No. 4 and the Penn State Nittany Lions kept hold of the No. 5 spot.

The Georgia Bulldogs moved up to No. 6, followed by the SMU Mustangs, Indiana Hoosiers, Miami Hurricanes and Boise State Broncos, respectively, to round out the top 10.

Gators leap 10 spots in The Athletic’s Week 13 college football re-rank

The national sports media has taken notice of Florida’s two recent upset wins and continue to elevate the Gators in their rankings.

For the second straight week, Florida football prevailed over a top-25 opponent at home in the Swamp — a turn of events that has changed the trajectory of the 2024 campaign entirely for the Gators.

Two Saturdays ago, Billy Napier and Co. beat the LSU Tigers in an upset win that opened the door for a potential playoff berth. Last weekend, the Orange and Blue sealed the deal with a victory over the then-ninth-ranked Ole Miss Rebels.

It is great to be a Florida Gator again. Finally.

The Week 13 triumph gave the program another big boost in the rankings and computer models, including the Athletic’s college football rerank.

Author Chris Vannini lifted the Gators 10 spots from No. 43 last week to No. 33 after upsetting the Rebs. That puts Florida between the No. 32 Pitt Panthers and No. 34 Baylor Bears.

Compare that with USA TODAY Sports, which re-ranked the Gators at No. 36 — up seven spots from the previous week.

As far as fellow SEC schools are concerned, the Gators are ahead of six other Southeastern Conference programs: Vanderbilt Commodores (No. 35); Arkansas Razorbacks (No. 38); Oklahoma Sooners (No. 46); Auburn Tigers (No. 57); Kentucky Wildcats (No. 66); Mississippi State Bulldogs (No. 102).

The top four schools in the rerank remained unchanged this week, headlined by the Oregon Ducks, followed by the Ohio State Buckeyes, Texas Longhorns and Penn State Nittany Lions, respectively. The Notre Dame Fighting Irish leaped four places to finish up the top five.

Next up are the Georgia Bulldogs, Tennessee Volunteers, SMU Mustangs, Indiana Hoosiers and Boise State Broncos to round out the top 10.

Florida climbs up USA TODAY Sports re-rank after Week 13 win

The Gators earned their due respect in USA TODAY Sports’ college football re-rank after Florida’s Week 13 win over Ole Miss.

Billy Napier justified the Florida football program’s recent vote of confidence in its head coach with a signature win over the Ole Miss Rebels in the Swamp on Saturday, 24-17.

Along with a victory over the LSU Tigers last weekend, the Gators scored a one-two punch over a pair of top-25 teams to seal a bowl game appearance next month. Suffice it to say, things are trending in the right direction at the right time for the Orange and Blue.

The national sports media has taken notice of Florida’s late-season surge and has rewarded Napier and Co. for their efforts. Among them is USA TODAY Sports writer Paul Myerberg, who elevated the Gators this week in his college football re-rank.

Gators leap up in CBS Sports’ college football re-rank after Week 12

Florida sits right outside of CBS Sports’ Week 12 rerank top 50 after a pivotal win over the LSU Tigers.

Florida football emerged victoriously from its Southeastern Conference rivalry game last Saturday inside Ben Hill Griffin Stadium where they upset the LSU Tigers by a final score of 27-16.

The win was the fifth for the Gators this fall in 10 tries with just two games remaining on the 2024 schedule against the Ole Miss Rebels at home next weekend and the Florida State Seminoles in Tallahassee the Saturday after.

The triumph resulted in a nice bounce-back for Florida in CBS Sports writer Chip Patterson’s weekly re-rank update, rising from No. 65 to No. 52. The week prior to the Texas Longhorns loss, the Gators were ranked No. 50.

The Orange and Blue now sit between the No. 51 Rutgers Scarlet Knights and No. 53 Michigan Wolverines.

The top five schools remained unchanged, with the Oregon Ducks once again perched at No. 1 this week while the Ohio State Buckeyes held onto the second spot in the re-rank. The Longhorns stayed at No. 3 followed by the Indiana Hoosiers at No. 4 and Penn State Nittany Lions at No. 5.

The Notre Dame Fighting Irish log in at No. 6 after rising two spots and the Alabama Crimson Tide also rose a pair of places to No. 7. The Ole Miss Rebels moved up three places to No. 8 followed by the Georgia Bulldogs — who gained four spots — at No. 9 and the Miami Hurricanes moving up two places to No. 10.

Florida jumps in The Athletic’s college football re-rank after Week 12

The Gators are climbing back into respectability in The Athletic’s latest college football re-rank.

Florida football earned a critical win inside Ben Hill Griffin Stadium during Week 12, overcoming the then-22nd-ranked LSU Tigers for a 27-16 upset that changed the trajectory of the season for the Gators.

Now holding a 5-5 overall record, the Orange and Blue has to win one out of its next two games — the Ole Miss Rebels at home and the Florida State Seminoles in Tallahassee, respectively. Suffice it to say, the Gator Nation is frothing at the mouth with excitement.

The victory also gave [autotag]Billy Napier[/autotag] and Co. a boost in the rankings and computer models, save for the US LBM Coaches Poll and AP Poll. That includes the weekly rerank from The Athletic.

Author Chris Vannini lifted the Gators 11 spots from No. 54 last week to No. 43 after beating the Tigers. That puts Florida between the No. 42 TCU Horned Frogs and No. 44 Washington Huskies.

Compare that with USA TODAY Sports, which re-ranked Florida at No. 43 — up 14 spots from the previous week.

As far as fellow SEC schools are concerned, the Gators are ahead of four other Southeastern Conference programs: the Oklahoma Sooners (No. 53); Auburn Tigers (No. 64), Kentucky Wildcats (No. 65); Mississippi State Bulldogs (No. 103)

Florida football surges in USA TODAY Sports Week 12 re-rank

Florida was one of the biggest movers in this week’s USA TODAY Sports college football re-rank after beating LSU.

Billy Napier may have scored the biggest — or at least, most important — win of his nearly three-year tenure as coach of the Florida football program on Saturday with an epic 27-16 upset of the LSU Tigers in the Swamp.

It took a total team effort, but in the end, the Gators prevailed to win their fifth game this fall. Now with two games remaining, the prospect of a bowl bid is becoming a more likely reality than a few weeks ago.

Following last weekend’s gridiron action, USA TODAY Sports writer Paul Myerberg submitted his re-ranking of all 134 Football Bowl Subdivision schools. Here is how the Orange and Blue fared.

Florida’s re-rank after Week 12

Myerberg boosted the Gators 14 spots after the Week 12 dust settled, moving up from No. 57 to No. 43 and putting Florida between the No. 42 Michigan Wolverines and No. 44 Oklahoma Sooners.

Billy Napier and Co. are ahead of five Southeastern Conference schools in the rankings: Oklahoma (No. 44); the Arkansas Razorbacks (No. 46); Kentucky Wildcats (No. 77); Auburn Tigers (No. 92); Mississippi State Bulldogs (No. 108).
