Delce is dominant in series-opening win over Kentucky

Chenise Delce was once again dominant in Arkansas’ series opening win over Kentucky on Friday.

The reigning SEC Pitcher of the Week may be on her way to being a repeat winner.

Chenise Delce was awarded the honor following three successful outings in the Auburn series where she did not allow a run while striking out 15 batters in 7.2 innings of work. She picked up where she left off by striking out nine batters while allowing one earned run on six hits in No. 6 Arkansas’ 2-1 series-opening win over No. 12 Kentucky on Friday afternoon at Bogle Park.

Delce limited the production of the Wildcats by facing just four batters in all but two innings on Friday. The junior’s lone run allowed came in the 3rd inning on a Rylea Smith single to tie the game at 1-1. Her strongest inning came in the 6th inning when she faced the minimum with two strikeouts.

Over the last six games, Delce has allowed just four earned runs while striking out 40 batters.

Arkansas (31-7, 10-3 SEC) jumped out to an early lead in the 1st inning. [autotag]Hannah McEwen[/autotag] reached base on a double to center field, and scored two at-bats later when Danielle Gibson doubled her home to give the Razorbacks the early 1-0 advantage.

Following the single by Smith to tie the game, [autotag]Hannah Gammill[/autotag] answered in the 4th inning by launching a solo shot to left center that would give Arkansas their lead back, 2-1.

The home run would end up being the winning run. With the home run in the 4th inning, Gammill now leads the team in home runs with 15.

Six batters recorded a hit in the game, with McEwen, Gibson, and Kacie Hoffman grabbing multi-base hits in addition to Gammill’s home run.

With the win over Kentucky, Arkansas has now won the opening game of a conference series in four of the last five tries. The lone exception being a 2-0 loss to Ole Miss on April 1, but they would bounce back by winning the final two games of the series.

Game two of the series is set for 7 p.m. Saturday night at Bogle Park. The game will be nationally televised on ESPN2.

After a near-perfect performance in the weekend sweep of No.17 Auburn, Delce was named SEC Pitcher of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday.

Arkansas’ Chenise Delce, a junior right-hander from Oklahoma City, Okla., earned two wins and compiled a 0.00 ERA in the series sweep over No. 17 Auburn. Arkansas runs winning streak to 8 games with sweep of SEMO

The red-hot Razorbacks continue to get the job done

It was business as usual for the No. 6 Arkansas Razorbacks (30-7, 9-3 SEC), as they swept Southeast Missouri State in a doubleheader on Tuesday, 9-1 and 14-0 respectively. By grabbing two wins on the day, the winning streak for Arkansas has now improved to eight games.

The red-hot Razorbacks would produce 11 hits in game one’s win off the bat of eight different batters. [autotag]KB Sides[/autotag], [autotag]Danielle Gibson[/autotag], and [autotag]Hannah Gammill[/autotag] would pace the offense with two hits each; Sides and Gammill would also record three RBI apiece.

Arkansas would also add three home runs to their season total as well. Sides and Gammill would score multiple home runs on their solo shots, while [autotag]Linnie Malkin[/autotag] would hit her 10th home run of the year.

[autotag]Chenise Delce[/autotag] would win her 8th game of the season by striking out eight batters while allowing five hits and an earned run in 5.0 innings of work.

Arkansas added 13 more hits and did their damage in two innings against SEMO in game two’s 14-0 win. Malkin would go deep two more times, scoring five runs. [autotag]Callie Turner[/autotag] grabbed her 2nd win of the year, allowing just three hits in 3.0 IP. [autotag]Lauren Howell[/autotag] struck out two batters in 2.0 innings of relief.

How the sweep of Auburn affects Arkansas in the latest polls

By sweeping the then-No. 17 team in the nation over the weekend, the Razorbacks are beginning to climb in the national polls

Following an impressive showing last weekend against the then-No. 17 Auburn Tigers at Bogle Park, the Arkansas Razorbacks are beginning to gain ground in the latest national polls.

With the series win, Arkansas is now the only team in the SEC to win every series played thus far. However, with the top teams also finding ways to win, it has been difficult for the Razorbacks to climb in the polls. A weekend series sweep helped their case, as they have seen their biggest jump of the season, moving as high as four spots in some polls.

Arkansas will have another opportunity to make a statement this weekend, as they host the Kentucky Wildcats beginning Friday night. The Wildcats are a top-15 team across the board, ranking as high as No. 8.

Here’s how last weekend’s sweep of Auburn affected Arkansas in the latest polls:

Record Watch: Danielle Gibson is knocking on the door of history

Arkansas fans may want to keep a close eye on Danielle Gibson at the plate over the next few games, as she is close to breaking a program record.

Over the last four seasons, Arkansas softball fans have had the pleasure of watching one of the best to ever put on the uniform, [autotag]Danielle Gibson[/autotag].

Since transferring from Arizona State prior to the 2019 season, the Razorbacks’ first baseman has been consistent at the plate, being a great threat to opposing pitchers, as well as helping her team become one of the best in the Southeastern Conference.

Arkansas fans may way to pay closer attention than they already are to their prized first baseman because she is on the doorstep of making history. As Arkansas prepares to face Southeast Missouri on Tuesday night, Gibson needs just six home runs to become the program’s all-time leader in home runs.

As of April 12, Gibson sits at 42 home runs as a Razorback, which is one behind Miranda Dixon’s 43 home runs between 2007-10, and five behind the program’s leader in Devon Wallace, who hit 47 home runs between 2012-15.

Gibson is currently on pace to have her best season as a collegiate softball player. She is currently batting .477 with 51 hits, 14 home runs, and 42 RBI. She needs just 11 hits, two home runs, and ten RBI to break personal records.

If Gibson were to break the home run record, it would be the second record that she has broken this season. Earlier in the year, she broke the all-time RBI record held by Miranda Dixon for nearly 12 seasons. Dixon plated 147 runs from 2007-10, Gibson currently has 152.
