Tampa Bay Rays at New York Yankees odds, picks and best bets

Previewing Wednesday’s Tampa Bay Rays at New York Yankees sports betting odds and lines, with MLB betting picks, tips and best bets.

The Tampa Bay Rays (25-12) and New York Yankees (20-14) play the rubber game of their heated three-game series at Yankee Stadium Wednesday at 7:05 p.m. ET. Below, we analyze the Rays-Yankees MLB betting odds and lines, with picks and best bets.

Tuesday: New York snapped Tampa Bay’s six-game win streak with a 5-3 victory, but it ended with some unnecessary drama. Yankees closer Aroldis Chapman buzzed Rays PH Michael Brosseau with a 101-mph, head-high brush-back pitch moments before the final out. In the first inning, Rays 3B Joey Wendle, just the third batter of the game, was hit by a pitch from Yankees SP Masahiro Tanaka.

After the final out, the AL East rivals emptied the benches, but fortunately no punches were thrown. However, there was no holding back from Rays manager Kevin Cash in his postgame presser.

“Somebody’s got (to) be accountable,” Cash said, according to The Associated Press. “The last thing I’ll say on this is I got a whole damn stable full of guys that throw 98 mph. Period.”

Yankees skipper Aaron Boone replied, “That’s a pretty scary comment,” when told of Cash’s comments. Yankees 2B DJ LeMahieu added, “Obviously that’s a pretty serious threat. … It sounds like they’re going to try and throw at us tomorrow. We’ll be ready.”

Unless the umpires can step in front of this before Wednesday’s first pitch, there could be more fireworks as the two clubs meet for the final time in their regular-season series – which the Rays have dominated, winning seven of nine games.

Rays at Yankees: Projected starting pitchers

RHP Charlie Morton vs. LHP Jordan Montgomery

Morton is 1-1 with a 5.40 ERA (16 2/3 IP, 10 ER) in 4 starts this season.

Montgomery is 2-1 with a 4.44 ERA (24 1/3 IP, 12 ER) in 5 starts.

Prediction

Rays 4, Yankees 3

Moneyline (ML)

The RAYS (+105) are the STRONGEST PLAY. They’re coming in angry after Tuesday’s theatrics and that spells doom for Montgomery and the Yankees (-118).

New to sports betting? Every winning $1 bet on the Rays will profit $1.05. Every $1.18 bet on the Yankees profits a $1 if they win.
(Strongest-play wagers should be 1½ times your usual bet.)

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

SKIP. The Yankees (+1.5, -189) are 21-13 vs. the RL overall and 12-8 vs. the RL at home, but the price is a bit costly. The Rays’ RL odds (-1.5, +155) offer decent value, but I’ll PASS and stick with them on the moneyline.

Over/Under (O/U)

The UNDER 9 (-110) is worth a small wager. The first two games of this series finished Under, both 5-3 finals. Plus, the Rays’ 3.77 ERA ranks eighth in the majors. (Small-play wagers should be half your usual bet.)

Tampa Bay Rays at New York Yankees odds, picks and best bets

Previewing Tuesday’s Tampa Bay Rays at New York Yankees sports betting odds and lines, with MLB betting picks, tips and best bets.

The Tampa Bay Rays (25-11) and the New York Yankees (19-14) continue their three-game set Tuesday at 7:05 p.m. ET at Yankee Stadium. We analyze the Rays-Yankees MLB betting odds and lines, with picks and best bets.

Rays at Yankees: Projected starting pitchers

RHP Trevor Richards vs. RHP Masahiro Tanaka

Richards enters play with no decisions across 21 innings in his six appearances, posting a 5.14 ERA and 1.71 WHIP. He has started two games with four relief appearances.

  • Richards will be making his third appearance against the Yankees. Both of his previous outings against the Bronx Bombers were relief outings, allowing four runs – two earned – and eight hits over seven innings with six strikeouts.
  • Richards tied a season-high with 4 1/3 innings in his most recent start Aug. 26 against the Baltimore Orioles, allowing two unearned runs, six hits and two walks with three strikeouts in a no-decision.

Also see: BaseballHQ Fantasy Baseball

Tanaka has made five starts this season and he is still angling for his first victory. He is 0-1 with a 3.48 ERA and 1.16 WHIP with 17 strikeouts over 20 2/3 innings.

  • Tanaka has had mixed results against the Rays this season. He allowed just one hit and no walks with five strikeouts in five scoreless innings in a no-decision Aug. 7 in St. Petersburg, but he was pounded for six runs – five earned – and eight hits in just four innings in a loss at The Stadium Aug. 18.
  • In that ugly showing Aug. 18 vs. Tampa Bay, Tanaka allowed four extra-base hits and he threw just 43 of his 71 pitches for strikes.

Special Betting Promotion! Bet $1 on the New York Yankees vs. Tampa Bay Rays matchup, WIN $100 (in free bets) if either team hits a home run during their game. Prediction

Yankees 6, Rays 5

Moneyline (ML)

The YANKEES (-134) have three of their big bats out of the lineup, so they’ll have to manufacture runs. They’ll face a pitcher who isn’t terribly stretched out and won’t go deep into the game, while they have one of their aces on the bump. Of course, that didn’t mean much in the series opener when the Yankees lost with Gerrit Cole on the mound. Still, take the Yankees to scratch out a win against Richards and the Rays (+120).

New to sports betting? A winning $10 bet on the Yankees would return a profit of just $7.50.

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

Steer far clear of the run line here. The Yankees (-1.5, +150) side looks pretty tempting, but they have just three wins since Aug. 17, and two of those victories were of the one-run variety. AVOID.

Over/Under (O/U)

OVER 9 (-110) is the lean here, but don’t expect the game to go over by much. Again, the Yankees are missing their biggest bats, although the Over is 2-0-1 in their past three regardless. The Over has cashed in two in a row for the Rays, too, and the Over is 5-2 in the past seven meetings in this series.

Tampa Bay Rays at New York Yankees odds, picks and best bets

Previewing Thursday’s Tampa Bay Rays at New York Yankees sports betting odds and lines, with MLB betting picks, tips and best bets.

The Tampa Bay Rays (16-9) and New York Yankees (16-8) will close out their three-game series at 1:05 p.m. ET at Yankee Stadium Thursday. We analyze the Rays-Yankees betting odds and lines, with MLB picks and best bets.

Rays at Yankees: Projected starting pitchers

RHP John Curtiss vs. LHP James Paxton

Curtiss is being used as the opener Thursday. He has pitched 6 1/3 innings in relief this season, going 1-0 with a 2.84 ERA.

  • Curtiss has struck out seven batters in those 6 1/3 innings with no walks and five hits allowed.
  • This will be Curtiss’ first start in his career, acting as the opener for Tampa Bay.

Paxton has made four starts this season but only pitched 15 1/3 innings in total, posting an ERA of 7.04.

  • He has allowed at least three runs in all four of his starts and hasn’t pitched more than 6 1/3 innings in a single outing.
  • Paxton is 3-1 with a 3.38 ERA in his career against the Rays (6 starts).

Prediction

Rays 6, Yankees 4

Moneyline (ML)

The RAYS (+135) took the first two games of the series and will now be going for the sweep Thursday afternoon. They’re playing better baseball right now, having won four in a row. They’ve also gone 7-1 in their last eight games against the Yankees (-149).

Bet on the RAYS (+135) to win outright against Paxton, who hasn’t pitched very well this season. If the Rays can escape the first couple of innings with minimal damage, the bullpen should keep them in the game.

New to sports betting? A $10 bet on the Rays to win returns a profit of $13.50.

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

The run line in this one is Yankees -1.5 (+135), with the Rays being +1.5 (-162). If you’re not comfortable taking the Rays to win straight up, this is a good opportunity with Tampa getting 1.5 runs.

The reward won’t be as large, but at -162, it’s still a bet worth making. Tampa Bay is 10-1 in its last 11 games with the only loss being a 12-4 drubbing against the Toronto Blue Jays. They’ll at least keep this one close; go with the RAYS +1.5 (-162).

Over/Under (O/U)

The Over/Under is set at 9. The total has gone Over in five of the Rays’ last seven games and that trend should continue with Paxton and Curtiss getting the nod as the starters.

Bet the OVER 9 (-121) and expect plenty of runs to be scored.
