It was a good week to be an Islander.

The Texas A&M – Corpus Christi women swept both our team and individual honors this week for their efforts at the PGA Works Collegiate Championship.

The Islanders defended their PGA Works title by 14 shots over Delaware State thanks to all five players finishing T-13 or better on the individual leaderboard, including four placing inside the top 10. Sophomore Lucie Charbonnier led the way by claiming the individual title at 13 over by just one shot over Delaware State’s Anna Ferreyra-Heit for her first career win.

The Islanders took both the team and individual titles in the same tournament for the first time in program history.

Last week it was the Denver women who claimed team of the week honors. This week it’s the Denver men.

The Pioneers just squeaked by to earn the team of the week after claiming their third consecutive Summit League Championship with a one-shot victory over runner-up North Dakota State. Denver had four players finish inside the top 10, including individual runner-up Carson Griggs, who shot rounds of 69-71-68 to finish at 8 under and tie his best finish of the year, five shots behind champion Nate Deziel of North Dakota State.

Denver is the first team to win three straight Summit titles since Western Illinois did so from 2006-08.

The Big 12 is arguably the best conference in the nation for men’s college golf and Ludvig Aberg emerged as its champion.

The Texas Tech junior earned player of the week after claiming medalist honors at the Big 12 Championship following a bogey-free 3-under 69 in the final round at Whispering Pines Golf Club to win the individual title at 8 under by two shots.

“I felt great throughout the day and hit the ball well to give myself stress-free opportunities,” Aberg said. “It’s a really tough course but I was really comfortable out there. The Big 12 is the best in the nation and to win it is really cool and a nice accomplishment.”

College Performers of the Week powered by Rapsodo: Charlotte men’s golf

Charlotte defeated Florida Atlantic 3-1-1 in the semifinals and UTSA 3-2 in the Conference-USA finals.

Charlotte finished fourth during the stroke play portion of the Conference-USA Championship as the last team to qualify for match play. The 49ers ran with that momentum and dominated on the way to the title after defeating Florida Atlantic 3-1-1 in the semifinals and UTSA 3-2 in the finals.

If you’re keeping track at home, this year’s trip to the NCAA postseason is the 17th straight for Charlotte.

“I’m just so excited for our program and proud of these guys,” said head coach Ryan Cabbage. “I told the team afterward that as a coach, you hope and trust that you will have numerous opportunities to win a championship, but as a player, you only really get four chances so I am just so happy for them. We’ll now look forward to our NCAA location and get prepared for that moving forward. We’ve got some work to do and we’ve got a lot of areas that we need to get better in, in order to perform our best at a NCAA regional if we expect to advance to Grayhawk (site of the NCAA Finals). We’ll get to work on that soon enough after we enjoy this one for a little bit.”

Oklahoma did what they do best to end their regular season: win.

The top-ranked Sooners earned a program record-tying fifth win of the season at the 2022 Thunderbird Collegiate, claiming the team title at 31 under, five shots clear of hosts Arizona State. Oklahoma’s lineup featured four players inside the top 20, with Chris Gotterup (T-4) and Logan McAllister (T-9) leading the way in the top 10.

“Just a great team win,” said head coach Ryan Hybl. “Everyone pitched in this week and we felt good as an entire squad all week long. It’s very difficult to come to someone else’s home course and beat them. We’re fortunate to have been able to get the job done against some really good teams.”

Phoebe Brinker’s first college win was a big one.

The Duke sophomore claimed medalist honors at the 2022 ACC Championship, finishing at 10 under after 54 holes of competition at the The Reserve Golf Club in Pawley’s Island, South Carolina. Brinker was the lone player to shoot under par in all three rounds and beat the runner-up, her Duke teammate Erica Shepherd, by an impressive six shots.

“I hit it pretty far, so the par fives are reachable, which always helps, but overall, I just hit a lot of fairways, a lot of greens and I had my game this week,” said Brinker.
