Texas Rangers at Seattle Mariners odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Thursday’s Texas Rangers at Seattle Mariners odds and lines, with MLB picks and predictions.

The Texas Rangers (22-29) and Seattle Mariners (23-27) play the first of a four-game series at T-Mobile Park Thursday with a 10:10 p.m. ET first pitch. Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook‘s lines around the Rangers vs. Mariners odds with MLB picks and predictions.

LHP Kolby Allard is the projected starting pitcher for the Rangers. He is 1-0 with a 3.15 ERA, 1.25 WHIP, 5.4 K/9 and 2.7 BB/9 over 20 IP through 10 relief appearances with no starts.

Allard hasn’t made a start this season. He appeared in a three-inning relief outing May 8 at Seattle and allowed a run and two hits while striking out two.

RHP Chris Flexen is the projected starting pitcher for the Mariners. He is 4-2 with a 5.09 ERA, 1.57 WHIP, 5.3 K/9 and 2.0 BB/9 over 40 2/3 IP through 8 starts.

Flexen is coming off a horrendous outing Friday yielding eight earned runs, 10 hits and a walk while retiring just five batters in a loss. His ERA shot up from 3.46 to 5.09 as a result. He allowed four runs and 10 hits in 6 1/3 innings in a win at Texas May 7.

  • Money line: Rangers -110 (bet $110 to win $100) | Mariners -110 (bet $110 to win $100)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Rangers -1.5 (+145) | Mariners +1.5 (-175)
  • Over/Under: 8.5 (Over -115 | Under -105)

Prediction

Mariners 7, Rangers 6

Money line (ML)

The MARINERS (-110) are the lean here as Flexen had some success against the Rangers (-110) earlier in the month. I just don’t trust Allard, who will be making his first start. He won’t last long, and it will be up to a Texas bullpen that is just been so-so with a 4.16 ERA and 23 homers allowed.

In addition, the Rangers have lost eight straight games in the Pacific Northwest and eight of the past 10 meetings overall.

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

The MARINERS +1.5 (-175) is a decent play if you’re looking for a little bit of insurance. This is a pitching matchup that isn’t very good, but at least Flexen has pitched into the seventh inning against the Rangers -1.5 (+145) this season. That has to count for something, right?

Over/Under (O/U)

The OVER 8.5 (-115) is the best play in this game. The Over has cashed in five straight on the road for the Rangers while going 7-1 in their past eight divisional games. The Over has also hit in each of the past four meetings in this series.

Rangers at Mariners: Odds, lines, picks and betting tips

MLB odds courtesy of BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports for a full list. Odds last updated at 10:40 a.m. ET.

Moneyline (ML)

The Mariners are slight favorites to win at -128, while the Rangers are +115. Texas has lost two straight and has lost seven of 10, while Seattle has won two in a row and seven of 10.

This will be only the fourth game in which the Mariners have been favored all season. They are 1-2 when favored but are much better at home than on the road. They are 7-8 at their home park while the Rangers are 4-13 on the road. Go with the MARINERS (-128).

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

Seattle (-1.5, +155) is actually pretty good against the run line at 21-16, while Texas (+1.5, -189) has been abysmal, going 13-23 ATS. Only one team has covered fewer games. Take the MARINERS -1.5 (+155) to win by at least 2 runs.

Over/Under (O/U)

The total is set at 8.5 runs for Friday night. When the two teams have faced each other in six previous games this season, they have hit the Over four times. Both Seattle and Texas have among the highest Over percentages in the league. Mariners games go over 58.3% of the time and Rangers games go over 57.1% of the time. Take the OVER 8.5 RUNS (-110).
