New York Rangers at Boston Bruins odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Friday’s New York Rangers at Boston Bruins odds and lines, with hockey picks, tips and predictions.

The New York Rangers (26-23-6) play the second of a two-game set on the road against the Boston Bruins (32-14-7) Saturday. Puck drop is scheduled for 3 p.m. ET at TD Garden. Below, we analyze the Rangers-Bruins odds and lines, with NHL picks and predictions.

The Rangers are coming off a 4-0 loss in Boston in the first installment of the two-game set. New York is on a five-game slide, including their emotional two-game series against the Capitals that involved several fights. The Rangers have been shut out three times during the five-game span.

The Bruins have rattled off five victories in the past six games, and their only loss is a 4-3 overtime setback in New Jersey. Each of their past two wins have resulted in shutout wins.

Igor Shesterkin (15-14-3, 2.57 GAA, .917 SV%, 2 SO) vs. Tuukka Rask (14-4-2, 2.16 GAA, .919 SV%, 2 SO)

Shesterkin has lost three consecutive starts, going 0-3-0 with a 4.08 GAA and .879 SV% since his last victory against the Buffalo Sabres April 27. His last loss was Thursday, allowing four goals on 34 shots in a 4-0 setback.

Rask has picked up three consecutive victories, going 3-0-0 with a 1.00 GAA and .961 SV%. He hasn’t faced the Rangers since Feb. 28 at Madison Square Garden, allowing just one goal on 21 shots. Overall he is 2-1-0 with a 3.00 GAA and .900 SV% in three starts against the Rangers this season.

Rangers at Bruins: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Bruins 4, Rangers 1

Money line (ML)

The Bruins (-275) will cost you nearly three times your potential return, and  the Rangers (+230) are having a difficult time lately. In fact, the Rangers are eliminated from the postseason chase. Still, the B’s are a little too expensive, so look to the puck line instead.

AVOID.

Play our new free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Against the spread (ATS)

The BRUINS -1.5 (-115) are a much better play on home ice against the skidding Rangers +1.5 (-105). Each of Boston’s past 10 victories dating back to April 15 have been by two or more goals. If you’re going to bet the Bruins, it’s a good idea to bet the puck line.

Over/Under (O/U)

UNDER 5.5 (-110) is the play, going 4-1-1 in the past six overall for the Rangers. The Under is also 20-8-2 in their past 30 road outings for New York. The Under is 4-0 in the past four meetings and 17-6-3 in the past 26 meetings in Boston.

New York Rangers at Boston Bruins odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Saturday’s New York Rangers at Boston Bruins NHL odds and lines, with hockey picks, tips and predictions.

The New York Rangers (10-12-3) wrap up a two-game set on the road against the Boston Bruins (14-6-4) Saturday with a 1 p.m. ET puck drop at TD Garden. Below, we analyze the Rangers-Bruins odds and lines, with NHL picks and predictions.

Rangers at Bruins: Odds, spread and lines

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated at 5:45 a.m. ET.

  • Money line: Rangers +165 (bet $100 to win $165) | Bruins -200 (bet $200 to win $100)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Rangers +1.5 (-175) | Bruins -1.5 (+145)
  • Over/Under: 5.5 (O: +100 | U: -120)

Rangers at Bruins: Projected starting goalies

Keith Kinkaid (0-1-0, 2.21 GAA, .912 SV%) vs. Jaroslav Halak (6-2-2, 1.88 GAA, .927 SV%, 2 SO)

Kinkaid will make his second start and fourth appearance overall for the Blueshirts. He came on in relief last time out in place of the ineffective Alexandar Georgiev and he stopped all 13 shots he faced in 34-plus minutes of action in Thursday’s 4-0 setback in the series opener.

Halak will get the starting nod after blanking the Rangers in the front end of the back-to-back. The 35-year-old Slovakian backstop has been on fire since flipping the calendar from February to March, going 2-0-1 with a 0.65 GAA and .977 SV% in three starts. He also blanked the Rangers back on Feb. 12 at MSG, making 21 saves in a 1-0 shutout win.

Rangers at Bruins: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Bruins 5, Rangers 2

Money line (ML)

The BRUINS (-200) have a red-hot goaltender in the crease with Halak, and he especially thrives against the Rangers (+165). Normally I like to have a money line limit of -180 and no higher, but sometimes there are exceptions.

It’s hard to envision the Rangers being able to turn the tables on Halak and the B’s. While I like the puck line better, I can live with a money line wager at this price, too.

Against the spread (ATS)

The BRUINS -1.5 (+145) are a better value play at this price than on the money line, obviously, but there is also a little more risk. Still, the B’s won and covered 4-0 in the last game, and they have hit the puck line in each of their past four victories, including two wins against the Rangers during that span.

Over/Under (O/U)

OVER 5.5 (+100) is a value play here at even-money. I know Kinkaid looked sharp in relief last time out, but there is a reason he has been a career backup in this league.

The Bruins should be able to pile up plenty of offense against him, and I expect the Rangers to at least get on the board against Halak this time. He can’t pitch another shutout, can he?

New York Rangers at Boston Bruins odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Thursday’s New York Rangers at Boston Bruins NHL odds and lines, with hockey picks, tips and predictions.

The New York Rangers (10-11-3) are visiting the Boston Bruins (13-6-4) for the first game of a two-game set at TD Garden Thursday. Puck drop will be at 7 p.m. ET. Below, we analyze the Rangers-Bruins odds and lines, with NHL picks and predictions.

The Bruins and Rangers are fourth and sixth, respectively, in the East Division. Boston leads the season series 3-1, but one of those victories was decided by a 3-2 score in overtime. New York has the most impressive win in the series, with it coming by a 6-2 count at Madison Square Garden Feb. 26.

The Bruins are coming off back-to-back losses against the New Jersey Devils (1-0) and New York Islanders (2-1, in a shootout). They’ve scored more than 1 goal in just one of their last four games.

The Rangers lost both parts of a two-game road set against the Pittsburgh Penguins Sunday and Tuesday. The losses came by a combined count of 9-3.

Rangers at Bruins: Odds, spread and lines

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated at 12:45 p.m. ET.

  • Money line: Rangers +160 (bet $100 to win $160) | Bruins -190 (bet $190 to win $100)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Rangers +1.5 (-175) | Bruins -1.5 (+145)
  • Over/Under: 5.5 (O: -110 | U: -110)

Rangers at Bruins: Projected starting goalies

Alexandar Georgiev (4-3-2, .897 SV%, 3.03 GAA) vs. Jaroslav Halak (5-2-2, .919 SV%, 2.08 GAA)

Georgiev was charged with Sunday’s loss to the Penguins while allowing 3 goals on just 6 shots in 17:14 of crease time. He stopped 24 of 27 shots in a victory over the Devils in the front end of that back-to-back. He has been much worse on the road this season with an .866 SV% vs. a .911 rate on home ice.

Halak was charged with Tuesday’s loss despite stopping 26 of 27 shots and getting the B’s to a shootout against the Isles. He earned a shutout win over these Rangers while stopping all 21 shots he faced Feb. 12. He is 3-1-0 with a .935 SV% and 1.51 GAA at the Garden this season.

Rangers at Bruins: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Bruins 4, Rangers 1

Money line (ML)

The BRUINS (-175) should be backed for the outright win despite the steep price tag. Their offense warrants more trust while the Rangers remain without LW Artemi Panarin (personal).

Play our new free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Against the spread (ATS)

The better value is with backing the BRUINS -1.5 (+145) to win by 2 or more goals. While two of their three victories over the Rangers this season were by single-goal margins, they won 4-1 at home Feb. 28.

Boston is third in the NHL in 5-on-5 Corsi For percentage for the season. New York is 29th at a shot-attempt rate of just 47.39%.

Over/Under (O/U)

UNDER 5.5 (-110) is the play with both offenses struggling of late and Halak starting in his preferred location.

Boston is 0-4-1 against the O/U over its last four games. New York is 2-2-2 against the line over its last six contests.
