Texas Rangers at Oakland Athletics odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Wednesday’s Texas Rangers at Oakland Athletics odds and lines, with MLB picks and predictions.

The Texas Rangers (31-48) and Oakland Athletics (47-34) play the second game of a three-game set Wednesday with a 9:40 p.m. ET first pitch at Oakland Coliseum. Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook‘s lines around the Rangers vs. Athletics odds with MLB picks and predictions.

LHP Kolby Allard is the projected starting pitcher for the Rangers. He is 2-3 with a 3.33 ERA, 1.11 WHIP, 8.6 K/9 and 2.0 BB/9 in 46 IP over 5 starts and 10 relief appearances.

Allard allowed four earned runs, eight hits and no walks with just one strikeout across six innings in a loss against the Athletics Thursday in Arlington.

RHP Chris Bassitt is the projected starting pitcher for the Athletics. He is 8-2 with a 3.25 ERA, 1.06 WHIP, 9.2 K/9 and 2.4 BB/9 in 99 2/3 IP over 16 starts.

Bassitt allowed just one earned run, five hits and three walks with four strikeouts across seven innings in the 5-1 win at Texas opposite Allard last Thursday. He has won eight straight decisions across his past 14 starts since April 6 after beginning the season 0-2.

  • Money line: Rangers +165 (bet $100 to win $165) | Athletics -200 (bet $200 to win $100)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Rangers +1.5 (-125) | Athletics -1.5 (+105)
  • Over/Under: 7.5 (O: -110 | U: -110)

Prediction

Athletics 6, Rangers 3

Money line (ML)

The Athletics (-200) will cost you two times your potential return, and that’s a little too expensive. I prefer the run line in this instance.

AVOID.

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

The ATHLETICS -1.5 (+105) are a much better option on the run line at even money as they look to bounce back after a setback in the series opener Tuesday.

Despite Tuesday’s loss, Oakland is still 6-1 across the past seven in the Coliseum, and they’re an impressive 43-17 in the past 60 against left-handed starting pitchers. They’re also still 7-3 across the past 10 divisional games.

Over/Under (O/U)

The OVER 7.5 (-110) is the lean here as we’ll have winds gusting 10-13 mph to straightaway center field. The Over just inched across the finish line in the series opener with nine runs on a total of 8.5. The Over has now cashed in five of the past six meetings in the Bay Area.

Texas Rangers at Oakland Athletics odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Tuesday’s Texas Rangers at Oakland Athletics odds and lines, with MLB picks and predictions.

The Texas Rangers (30-48) and Oakland Athletics (47-33) begin a three-game set Tuesday with a 9:40 p.m. ET first pitch at Oakland Coliseum. Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook‘s lines around the Rangers vs. Athletics odds with MLB picks and predictions.

RHP Mike Foltynewicz is the projected starting pitcher for the Rangers. He is 1-7 with a 5.40 ERA, 1.40 WHIP, 6.3 K/9 and 2.1 BB/9 in 80 IP over 15 starts.

Foltynewicz hasn’t won in 10 straight starts dating back to April 27. His last outing was a quality start, allowing just two runs, six hits and no walks with five strikeouts across six innings in a no-decision Wednesday against Oakland in Arlington, Texas.

RHP James Kaprielian is the projected starting pitcher for the Athletics. He is 4-1 with a 2.86 ERA, 1.11 WHIP, 9.4 K/9 and 3.9 BB/9 in 44 IP over 8 starts.

Kaprielian hasn’t lost in his last three starts, winning twice. He allowed two earned runs, five hits and two walks with four strikeouts across six innings in a no-decision Wednesday at Texas.

Rangers at Athletics odds, lines, picks and prediction

  • Money line: Rangers +150 (bet $100 to win $150) | Athletics -185 (bet $185 to win $100)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Rangers +1.5 (-130) | Athletics -1.5 (+105)
  • Over/Under: 8.5 (O: -110 | U: -110)

Prediction

Athletics 6, Rangers 3

Money line (ML)

The ATHLETICS (-185) are just a little over my personal money line limit of -180, but I like the home side here against the struggling Foltynewicz. While he was decent against the A’s last time out, he has had quality starts in consecutive outings just once this season.

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

The ATHLETICS -1.5 (+105) are a solid play in the series opener on their home field.

The Rangers have won just 17 of their past 59 series openers, and they’re a dismal 13-38 in the past 51 following a scheduled day off.

The A’s have won 16 of their past 22 series openers, and they’re 16-5 in the past 21 at home against a right-handed starting pitcher.

Over/Under (O/U)

The OVER 8.5 (-110) is the play here. The Over is 5-0-1 in the past six on the road for Texas, and 7-0-1 in its past eight on the road against winning teams.

For Oakland, the Over is 5-0 in its past five as a home favorite, and 4-1 in the past five at home against the Rangers.

Oakland Athletics at Texas Rangers odds, picks and best bets

Previewing Monday’s Oakland Athletics at Texas Rangers sports betting odds and lines, with MLB betting picks, tips and best bets.

The Oakland Athletics (20-9) own the best record in the American League, and will look to hand the Texas Rangers (10-17) their ninth consecutive loss. First pitch for the opener of this four-game series is set for 8:05 p.m. ET Monday at Globe Life Field. We analyze the Athletics-Rangers MLB betting odds and lines, with picks and best bets.

Athletics at Rangers: Projected starting pitchers

LHP Jesus Luzardo vs. RHP Lance Lynn

Luzardo bounced back from a rough outing and whiffed a season-high seven batters in last Wednesday’s start. He carries a 3.67 ERA into this game, with 27 strikeouts in 27 innings.

  • He tossed five shutout innings against the Rangers a few weeks ago, allowing two hits and two walks to go along with five punch outs.
  • The sample is still very small, but Luzardo has a 1.82 career ERA at home (24 2/3 innings), and a 5.02 mark on the road (14 1/3). He has allowed just one home run in his home park over 23 2/3 innings.

Lynn has been one of the top pitchers in the league so far in 2020. While a .174 BABIP has certainly helped, he boasts a 1.37 ERA through six starts, and has yet to allow more than two earned runs in a game.

  • He is a true workhorse, as his streak of throwing more than 100 pitches has now reached 30 starts.
  • Lynn has made 19 home starts since joining the Rangers prior to last season. In those games, he owns a 3.15 ERA, 9.8 K/9, and 0.6 HR/9.

Athletics at Rangers: Odds, lines, picks and betting tips

MLB odds courtesy of BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports for a full list. Odds last updated at 11:48 a.m. ET.

Prediction

Rangers 4, Athletics 3

Moneyline (ML)

This sets up as a pitchers’ duel, as both starters are displaying strong skills. Lynn has been dominant in the early going, but as usual, he isn’t likely to get a lot of help from his offense. The Rangers rank in the bottom five in both wRC+ and on-base-percentage vs left-handed pitching.

This one should be close throughout, but Lynn has been the better pitcher, and is an underdog at home. Therefore, siding with the RANGERS +135 vs. the A’s (-150) is the play here.

New to sports betting? A winning $10 bet on the Rangers would return a profit of $13.50.

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

Neither offense is likely to have a big day. The Rangers rank dead last in runs per game on the season. Oakland is tied for 10th in the category at 4.97 runs per game, but Lynn held the A’s to one run in 6 1/3 innings earlier this month, and should have similar success Monday evening.

Oakland came out on top 5-1 when these two pitchers squared off Aug. 4, thanks to a late inning bullpen blowup. Look for a closer contest this time, and take the RANGERS +1.5 (-134) vs. the A’s -1.5 (+110).

Over/Under (O/U)

The line is very low at 7.5, but for good reason. Both offenses are unlikely to get a lot going against these excellent starting pitchers. UNDER 7.5 (-121) looks like the side to be on.
