The Los Angeles Rams are in search of their eighth win of the season on Sunday afternoon, hosting the San Francisco 49ers at SoFi Stadium. The Rams have lost three straight to the 49ers, so they’ll also try to snap that losing skid.

The game isn’t nationally televised like it was last week when the Rams took on the Buccaneers on Monday Night Football. It’ll mostly be California that gets the game on TV, but there are other options for catching the action, too.

Below is everything you need to know to watch Sunday’s Week 12 tilt between the Rams and 49ers.

Rams vs. 49ers: 4 key matchups to watch on Sunday

This Week 12 tilt will come down to a few key matchups on the field.

The San Francisco 49ers only be 4-6, but one of those four wins came against the Los Angeles Rams and there’s no reason to believe they can’t pull off the upset once again. Having won three in a row against the Rams, the 49ers have had Sean McVay’s number since 2019 began.

But while much of this game will come down to Kyle Shanahan against McVay and Brandon Staley, there are a handful of key matchups on the field that will decide the outcome.

Here are four key battles to watch on Sunday afternoon when these two division rivals square off.

After playing in prime time on Monday night against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the Rams will host the 49ers on Sunday afternoon in Week 12. Seeking their third straight win, the Rams are attempting to retain their lead in the NFC West.

The game won’t be broadcast to a very wide audience like Monday night’s matchup was, with mostly just California getting the game on FOX. Check the map from 506 Sports below to find out if you’ll get the game in your area on Sunday.

If you’re in the yellow zone, you’re in luck. The game will be on your local FOX station at 4:05 p.m. ET.

Chris Myers and Brock Huard will be on the call for this one as the two division rivals square off for the second time this season. The 49ers won the first matchup back in Week 6, but they’ll be without Jimmy Garoppolo and George Kittle this time around.

As of Friday morning, the Rams are 6.5-point favorites with an Over/Under of 44.5 points,

The 49ers won the first matchup against the Rams this season.

Fresh off back-to-back wins over the Seahawks and Buccaneers, the Los Angeles Rams have another NFC foe in their sights. They’ll host the 49ers on Sunday afternoon in an attempt to win their third game in a row.

The Rams have lost three straight to the 49ers dating back to last season, however, including a 24-16 loss on Oct. 18 this year. That hasn’t prevented the oddsmakers from listing the Rams as the favorites.

According to BetMGM, the Rams are favored by 6.5 points over the 49ers. The Rams money line is -295, while the money line sits at +240. That means a $295 wager on the Rams to win outright will pay out $100. The over/under is set at 44.5 points, which is seven points lower than the over/under in their Week 6 meeting.

This season, the Rams are 6-4 against the spread, while the 49ers are just 4-6. San Francisco has lost three games in a row, too, battling through countless injuries – including ones to Jimmy Garoppolo, George Kittle and Nick Bosa, among others.

Rams slip slightly in NFL power rankings after loss to 49ers

The Rams dropped from their No. 7 spot, but how far did they slide?

The Rams entered Week 6 with a two-game winning streak and a strong 4-1 record. An injury-ravaged 49ers team was next on the schedule, looking like a great opportunity for the Rams to grab their fifth win of the season.

But things didn’t go according to plan, of course. The 49ers beat the Rams 24-16, dropping L.A.’s record to 4-2. The Rams slipped into a tie with the Cardinals in the division, though they’re technically third due to a tiebreaker.

In this week’s power rankings from Touchdown Wire, the Rams are also lower. They dropped from the No. 7 spot, but not out of the top 10. Heading into Week 7, the Rams are 10th in the power rankings, just behind the Bills (9) and Bears (8).

Here’s what Mark Schofield wrote about the Rams in this week’s power rankings

How much do you trust the Los Angeles Rams right now?

After a lackluster performance on Sunday night, in a loss to the San Francisco 49ers, the Rams fell to 4-2. Still a very good record, but look at those four wins. They came against the New York Giants, the Philadelphia Eagles, the Washington Football Team, and the Dallas Cowboys back in Week 1.

They have feasted on the worst division in football.

But the two occasions where they had to step outside the comfort zone of the NFC East? A loss to the Buffalo Bills and now a loss to the 49ers.

The Rams will take on the Bears in Week 7, who are currently 5-1 and leading the NFC North. Although many believe Chicago is not as good as its record indicates, the defense has given the Rams trouble in the last two seasons.

This could be the Rams’ toughest test yet, even if Chicago’s offense is nothing to write home about. A win will give L.A. its first win outside the NFC East, while a loss will further bring into question how good the Rams actually are with all of their wins coming against the worst division in football.

Why it’s not time to panic about the Rams after loss to 49ers

The Rams didn’t look good on Sunday night, but the panic button should be far out of reach.

Rams fans probably have a case of the Monday blues today after watching their team fall to the division rival 49ers in prime time. It’s their third straight loss to San Francisco, dropping the Rams’ record to 4-2 on the year – only one game ahead of the injury-riddled 49ers.

There’s plenty to be frustrated about coming out of that game, primarily with the offense. Jared Goff missed open receivers, Cooper Kupp dropped a few passes and Cam Akers only played one snap, to name a few points of contention. But the defense held San Francisco to three points in the second half, Darrell Henderson looked like a legitimate starting running back and Taylor Rapp had a decent performance in place of Jordan Fuller.

It’s easy to reach for the panic button after a prime-time loss in a game that the Rams should’ve won, but it’s not time to sound the alarms yet. It’s not even close to that point, actually.

The Rams still need a statement win, considering all four of their victories have come against the NFC East. They’ll get a chance at one against the Bears in Week 7, hosting the 5-1 team on Monday Night Football. If the Rams win that game, this loss to the 49ers will quickly be forgotten – even as disappointing as it was.

After that, they’ll visit a resurgent Dolphins team that has won handily the last two weeks. Still, it’s a favorable matchup before heading into the bye one week later. It’s conceivable that the Rams could hit the halfway point in the season with a 6-2 record and right in the thick of the NFC West race.

The Rams aren’t as banged-up as the 49ers are, but they’ve dealt with their own injuries. Darrell Henderson wasn’t healthy for Week 1, Cam Akers missed two-plus games, Micah Kiser and Jordan Fuller have both sat out games with injuries and Ogbonnia Okoronkwo is out at least four weeks.

And the Rams’ travel schedule to begin the year was no bargain. They made three trips to the East Coast, playing three 1 p.m. ET games in the first six weeks. Sean McVay and his players won’t use the frequent travel as an excuse, but it’s reasonable to think it may have factored into the equation the last few weeks.

Even though the schedule will get much more difficult in the second half of the season, the Rams will play five of their final eight games at home with their longest trip being to Tampa Bay in Week 11 – a prime-time matchup with the Buccaneers.

Teams have bad games against lesser opponents sometimes. Just look at the Chiefs, who were 13-point favorites over the Raiders in Week 5 and lost. The Rams were only favored by three points against the 49ers, so it’s not as if this was a colossal upset.

A win would’ve been great, but starting the year 4-2 is still a reason for optimism – even if there is still plenty of room for improvement in L.A.

Rams’ NFL-best 2nd-half defense stepped up again vs. 49ers

The Rams made great defensive adjustments at halftime, but it was too little, too late.

It’s been a tale of two halves for the Rams defense this season. They’ve allowed 88 points in the first half this season, which is ninth-most in the NFL. After halftime, however, there’s been no better defense in football.

The Rams have given up just 26 second-half points in six games this season, which is 13 fewer than the next-closest team, the Steelers; Pittsburgh has only played five games, too. Their average of 4.3 second-half points allowed per game is three points better than the second-best team, and in their last three games, they’ve given up just six total points in the final 30 minutes.

As poorly as the Rams played in the first half against the 49ers on Sunday night, the defense once again stepped up after halftime adjustments were made. They gave up only three points to San Francisco, allowing the 49ers to gain just 99 yards in the final two quarters.

The offense had every opportunity to win this game in the second half, but there were simply too many mistakes made down the stretch. This isn’t to excuse the defense from blame – San Francisco moves the ball much too easily in the first half with 291 yards and 21 points scored – but it kept the Rams in the game after it seemed like the 49ers would run away with it.

It’s great to see Brandon Staley and Sean McVay making second-half adjustments, but the Rams can’t keep relying on the defense to dominate after halftime each week. It cost them against the Bills in Week 3 and again on Sunday night, with both Buffalo and San Francisco scoring 21 points in the first half.

It’s unreasonable to expect the Rams to allow 4.3 points per game in the first half like they are in the second. However, they do need to play better in the first half if they want to compete with the best teams in the league.

If the Seahawks, Buccaneers and Cardinals jump out to big leads against the Rams later in the season, second-half adjustments will only do so much. Slowing those offenses down in the second half will be much tougher than doing so against the Giants, Washington and 49ers.

Rams’ pass rush had one of its worst games since 2016 vs. 49ers

The Rams generated just two pressures against the 49ers, both of which were by Aaron Donald.

Kyle Allen and Alex Smith barely had time to blink in the pocket last week before a Rams defender was in the backfield disrupting the play. Coming off a game in which they had eight sacks and allowed 108 total yards, the Rams defense really struggled against the 49ers on Sunday night.

The pass rush was especially bad, and that doesn’t exclude Aaron Donald. He had more sacks against Washington than he had pressures in Week 6, which is telling of how great San Francisco’s game plan was for Donald and the Rams’ pass rushers as a whole.

Jimmy Garoppolo dropped back 33 times on Sunday night and only twice was he pressured by the Rams. Their pressure rate of 6.1% is the second-lowest since the Rams moved back to Los Angeles in 2016, which is startling, with the other game coming in Week 17 of 2017 when the Rams played their backups.

Not to mention, the Rams’ two pressures were both by Donald, which means no one else really even got close to Garoppolo in this one.

This is certainly not the performance the Rams were expecting from their pass rushers after sacking Allen and Smith eight times last week, but even in that game it was Donald doing the bulk of the damage. Troy Reeder had three sacks on either blitzes or quarterback scrambles, but Jachai Polite and Leonard Floyd were the only other players to hit the quarterback (once each).

The 49ers had a great plan to neutralize the Rams’ pass rush, throwing quick passes underneath with very few shots downfield. That’s part of the reason for the pass rush’s lack of pressure, as Garoppolo got rid of the ball in an average of 2.38 seconds – second-quickest in the NFL this week.

His passing chart paints a better picture, with all but four of his completions coming within 7 yards of the line of scrimmage.

There’s no question the Rams pass rush has to be better moving forward. Not every coach is as good as Kyle Shanahan and he has a knack for drawing up a great game plan against the Rams, but the lack of pressure on Garoppolo made life easy for the 49ers quarterback.

L.A. will have a chance to turn things around next week in prime time again as they host the Chicago Bears in Week 7 on Monday Night Football.

Rams’ special teams stubbornness is becoming a problem

Sean McVay has stuck by Cooper Kupp and Samuel Sloman, but it might be time for a change on special teams.

Games are typically won and lost on offense and defense, but the third phase is not to be forgotten. Special teams is also a critical part of a team’s success, whether it’s flipping field position with punts, making field goals or providing a spark with long returns.

The Rams have gotten very little from John Bonamego’s unit this season, and in part, it’s the coaching staff’s own fault. They picked Samuel Sloman as their kicker this year. They decided to put Cooper Kupp back as the primary punt returner. They’re the ones who have made Raymond Calais inactive the last couple of weeks.

The coaching staff’s stubbornness on special teams has become a problem, and that was even more evident on Sunday night against the 49ers.

Sloman missed his third extra point attempt of the season before making a 42-yarder. Kupp was sent back to return punts, even after Nsimba Webster had returns of 15 yards and 9 yards, while also returning a kickoff 30 yards.

Put simply, there’s no reason Kupp should return one more punt this season as long as Webster is healthy. He’s not explosive enough, he doesn’t make good decisions on when to field punts or let them go, and the risk of injury is not at all worth the minimal reward of a possible 10-yard return.

It’s so abundantly obvious to everyone watching that Webster is a better returner than Kupp. Yet, McVay keeps putting Kupp back there to field punts when Webster is more than capable of doing the job and nowhere near as critical to the offense as Kupp is.

And as for the kicking situation, it might be time to make a change. Sloman didn’t just miss his third PAT attempt. He had it blocked, driving it much lower than any extra point try should be kicked. It’s a bad tendency for a kicker to have, especially on kicks that are supposed to be near-automatic.

It was encouraging that he made a 42-yard field goal, his first attempt of the season between 40 and 49 yards, but it shouldn’t give the Rams enough confidence to pass on outside options. At the very least, they should try out a kicker or two to see if Sloman really is their best option.

Because at this point, it’s getting more and more difficult to believe that. McVay said he wanted Sloman to be more consistent, and there’s nothing the rookie did on Sunday night to elicit confidence.

If Kupp keeps returning punts or Sloman continues to miss kicks without being held accountable, the Rams are going to keep digging themselves into holes that will be more difficult to climb out of.

Why Los Angeles Rams Will Win

Get up fast, let the D take over. The offense gets most of the attention, but the defense continues to be fantastic. The secondary isn’t allowing much of anything – it’s second in the NFL in yards allowed – and it’s fantastic at coming up with third down stops. Against San Francisco, though, you have to stop the run first – the Rams are coming off a brilliant game allowing just 38 rushing yards to the Washington Football Team.

Why San Francisco 49ers Will Win

The 49er defense is coming off a disaster against Miami, but it’s still too good to have two performances like those in a row. The pass defense has been outstanding, the third down D is great, and everything is fine as long as the team doesn’t get biffed in the turnover battle – it’s -5 over the last two games. The Ram defense might be great, but it’s not taking the ball away over the last few weeks.

CFN Experts Picks: College Football

Fantasy Football Player To Watch

RB Raheem Mostert, San Francisco
Mostert may be the fastest RB in the NFL, but he also translates that speed into power. He managed 90 rushing yards against the Dolphins on only 11 carries last week in his first game back from a knee injury. If the game script had not gotten away from the 49ers, he could have doubled that yardage. If you care about big plays, he’s your back.

What’s Going To Happen

How much do you trust the San Francisco quarterback situation? How much do you believe the Jimmy Garappolo issues against Miami are over? Thought so.

The 49ers will play better than they did last week, and it still won’t be enough against a Ram team that will be just balanced enough to control the tempo of the game throughout.
