The 18th edition of Animal Planet’s Puppy Bowl airs this Sunday at 2 p.m. ET.

The 18th edition of Animal Planet’s Puppy Bowl airs this Sunday, so we took the opportunity to chat with the man who has the honor of corralling all the puppies. Officially dubbed the “Ruffaree”, Schachner has the greatest job in the world, objectively speaking, as he is responsible for regulating the play of the cutest, cuddliest puppies each and every year.

We talked to Schachner and his trusty pal, Yogi, via Zoom as they hung out in his New York apartment. Topics ranged from how they pick the puppies to some of the penalties he’s had to call to how important it is to represent puppies with special needs and those from breeds with bad reputations.

The most important day of the year is finally here.

The Super Bowl is exciting for many, but if football is not your thing, it’s hard to deny that the Puppy Bowl is ridiculously adorable.

This year marks the 17th edition of the festivities, which will feature 70 puppies competing to win the extraordinarily coveted Lombarky Trophy. Make sure you have enough food and water because it’s a three-hour-long event and the pregame show begins at 1 p.m. ET before the other big game.

You can meet the adorable dogs that will be featured in the events right here.
