PSG was among the favorites to win the Champions League at the start of the competition, but it faced a challenge getting through Real Madrid’s defense in winning 1-0 at home in the first leg of the two-leg Round of 16 matchup.

Led by a trio of attacking forwards (F Lionel Messi, F Kylian Mbappe, and F Neymar), PSG currently sits atop Ligue 1, first in the standings by 13 points.

It finished second in Group A with 3 wins, 2 draws and a loss, a group featuring Manchester City. PSG totaled 21 shots and 8 on target in the first meeting of these two sides.

As for Real Madrid, it managed just 3 shots and none on target. It does currently sit atop La Liga and easily won Group D. In 27 La Liga matchups, Real has allowed just 21 goals. Its strength is in its backline.

Real should be motivated by being down 1-0. Also, at home, its offense should be able to come to life. Real has yet to lose at home in La Liga competition.

At the same time, PSG is the better club and is far too talented up top and also in the midfield to be eliminated in the first knockout round. PSG will be without D Sergio Ramos and, per whoscored.com, have Mbappe listed as doubtful. Those would heavily impact this game.

Real will be short-handed in the midfield, down M Toni Kroos, but F Karim Benzema who has 5 Champions League goals is healthy and should be a key threat.

Given these injuries, these teams, especially considering Real’s home-field advantage, seem well-matched, and I like them to finish even.

Over/Under (O/U)

BET on the UNDER 2.5 (+135).

Real Madrid has allowed 21 goals in 27 leagues matches and 4 Champions League goals in 7 matches.

This team is elite defensively, and although it allowed 8 shots on goal in the first matchup, it has proven to be much better at home and should feel the desperation.

As for PSG, it’ll likely be without Mbappe. With Neymar, who has played all 90 just once this calendar year, still getting into form following ankle ligament damage, PSG may struggle this time around.

PSG allowed just 8 goals in its 6 Champions League matches and didn’t allow Real a single shot on goal in the first matchup. The Under, especially at this value, is the only way to play the total.

This game, between a Ligue 1 superteam in PSG and La Liga’s Real Madrid, will be the first leg of the Round of 16 matchup in the UEFA Champions League.

Per whoscored.com, F Neymar is listed as doubtful but could make a return. D Sergio Ramos is also set to miss the match. Real Madrid’s Karim Benzema is listed as doubtful.

PSG was 3-1-2 in 6 group stage games, ranking second in Group A behind Manchester City. Real Madrid was 5-1-0 in 6 games for Group D. Despite that, they’ll be heavy road underdogs.

With arguably two of the best forwards in the world, PSG is a handful offensively. Led by F Kylian Mbappe and F Lionel Messi, PSG’s top-heavy attack has proven devastating to Ligue 1 competition.

PSG also played well in the group stage, ending with a 5-goal difference. With Man City in the group, it had a much more challenging route.

The big deal here is the likely absence of Benzema. He could play, but even if he takes the pitch, at what level can he keep up? Benzema had led the team in scoring this season.

While Real played well in Champions League action, it is just 1-1-2 in all competition over the past few weeks. With PSG 3-1-0 recently, I’d side with the team entering healthier, playing better and at home.

Over/Under (O/U)

LEAN to the OVER 2.5 (-154).

Real has scored at least 2 goals in 4 straight Champions League matches. Similarly, PSG averaged over 2 goals per game throughout the group stage round.

Real hasn’t faced a team the same caliber as PSG’s this season (having not played any high-level Premier League or Bundesliga sides).

Despite its defense being dominant in the group stage round and in league play, it’d be shocking to not see PSG breakthrough multiple times. PSG is averaging over 2 goals per game in Ligue 1 play as well.

“LEAN” to PSG (-220). Even down a star forward and potentially without a key defender I still side with the far more talented side. This value is a perfect parlay amount as well.

PSG is on the road which helps bring value to their money line odds, but it’s 6-1-2 away from home and has two of the best forwards in the world which would wreak havoc on a susceptible backline — a backline that’s given up the fifth-most goals in Ligue 1.

With depth at all positions, I’d do with the side currently atop the table. However, I’d rather look to parlay and get a better bang for your buck than to take a whole -220.

PSG is 2-0-0 against the other two teams in the bottom three of the table and should win with relative ease.

Over/Under (O/U)

BET on the OVER 3.5 (+155) as the best value here. PSG has a dynamite attack and F Lionel Messi should be able to break down a poor defense.

Lorient has given up 2 or more goals in three of its last four league games and is coming off a disappointing 4-1 defeat to the hand of the 18th-place Metz.

Combine Lorient’s poor defense with PSG’s lethal attack and PSG’s lacking defense with Lorient’s reasonably capable attack, and you get a game that should feature many goals, especially if Ramos does sit.

If there is a playable wager here, it’s the draw at +500. PSG, easily upon the French Ligue 1, is by far the better team, but they’re injured, and in no way, need to win this game.

Sergio Ramos and Julian Draxler are both out as well, hurting PSG’s backline and midfield. Given the non-urgent condition of this game, PSG may not play Mbappe or Messi anyway.

While I’m still not confident about it, I think seeing a sluggish PSG side wouldn’t be unthinkable. Also, Club Brugge is fighting for their lives. They’re 3rd in the Belgian league and have scored 32 goals in 17 games.

They can put up goals and should be able to get at least against a susceptible PSG side.

Over/Under (O/U)

BET on the UNDER 3.5 (-105). PSG is going to be down a key defender, a key forward and a key midfielder. That’s a perfect storm for not getting a plethora of attempts.

While their depth should help them prevail, scoring in bunches likely won’t be their expertise in this one. PSG has scored 1 goal in their last 2 Ligue 1 matches. They have just 9 in 5 games in Group A action, giving up 7.

Club Brugge has also struggled to score, averaging just a goal per game. Put the averages together, and you get around a 2-1 game which is what I expect.

I like the draw for one reason only – PSG’s injuries. Julian Draxler, Neymar, Lionel Messi, Marco Verratti and Georginio Wijanldum are all either out or doubtful. That’s just too much talent sitting on the side.

Without arguably the team’s top two strikers and many key midfielders while facing a top-three Ligue 1 side, I expect PSG to struggle to break down a consistently solid Nice backline.

PSG also isn’t playing their best soccer as of late. They were down 1-0 before a 45th-minute red card this past weekend. They won 3-1. They also lost their midweek UCL match to Man City.

If there’s a play here, it’s the draw. I’d stay away from the Nice money line, and the PSG money line is a decent value, just has obvious downside with their injuries.

Over/Under (O/U)

“LEAN” to the ALTERNATE LINE UNDER 2.5 (+165) as three of Nice’s last five games have been under this total.

While PSG typically has a more attack-heavy mindset, we’ve noted the players that won’t be active, and that’s going to be detrimental to their ability to possess.

PSG hasn’t scored in two matchups against top-four Ligue 1 opponents. They lost one of those matches. Given that note, I wouldn’t trust their offense to be at the same level it has been for most of the season.

Led by Lionel Messi, Neymar and Kylian Mbappe, PSG is still the clear favorite and atop Ligue 1 by 11 points through 14 games. PSG has 32 goals in 14 games and has given up 14.

Sainte-Etienne is sitting in 19th of 20 in the Ligue 1 standings. It has given up 28 goals in 14 games, so Sainte-Etienne clearly struggles to contain opposing attacks and will be facing the league’s most lethal one on Sunday.

Sainte-Etienne will be huge underdogs despite being at home.

There’s just no value here despite PSG’s high likelihood of coming out on top in this matchup.

I’d look more towards the BET BOTH TEAMS TO SCORE prop which can be currently added at -145.

That said, see below for why betting both teams to score is a solid way to get action and value in this potential Ligue 1 blowout.

Over/Under (O/U)

BET on the OVER 3.5 (+110) as the better value. AS Sainte-Etienne defense just hasn’t been great. It has allowed two goals per game to teams far weaker than PSG.

With that in mind, PSG will be playing without Julian Daxtler and Sergio Ramos which will undoubtedly hurt its defense, one that’s already given up a goal to its opponent in three straight games.

Marco Verratti will also be sidelined, further hurting PSG’s midfield.  Those injuries shouldn’t determine if PSG wins or not, but rather if Sainte-Entienne can find any type of success, which it may be able to.

Despite having just 12 points, Sainte-Entienne has notched over a goal per game which should bode well against a PSG defense that isn’t nearly as dominant as its offense.

Given the attacking power of the best three-man unit in the world, I expect PSG to get on the board many times. With that in mind, betting the Over here just makes more sense.

While Manchester City is one of the most competitive teams in the EPL, they’ll be without two superstar midfields, Kevin de Bruyne and Jack Grealish, who are respectively listed as out and doubtful.

Behind goals from Rodri, Raheem Sterling and Bernardo Silva, City still defeated Everton in EPL action this past weekend. They lost 2-0 to PSG in the team’s first UCL match.

As for PSG, they’ll be down Sergio Ramos, listed as doubtful. M Julian Draxler is also listed as out. However, their world-class trio of Neymar, Kylian Mbappe and Lionel Messi are all active.

PSG is the clear top dog in Ligue 1, the French top league. Led that by trio, they’ll give one of the EPL’s best defenses some problems as they head to England on Wednesday.

The attacking PSG trio is in and should be able to get by City at least once. Along those lines, there is some concern as to how City’s midfield will hold up without two of the best in the sport.

PSG held City scoreless in their first meeting, and City hasn’t given us much reason to believe in them in big-time games. Aside from their 2-0 loss earlier in UCL play, they drew Liverpool 2-2 and beat Chelsea 1-0 in EPL action.

With PSG nearing full strength and having had success against City before, I wouldn’t bet against a side that has the talent that they do. With that in mind, I may play a draw for a small unit if anything.

Over/Under (O/U)

BET on the UNDER 2.5 (+145) as the better side of the total. Given only two goals were scored last time these two faced off, the value is there for these odds.

City has given up 7 goals in 4 UCL games, but that goes down to just 5 in 3 without their previous loss to PSG. They’ve scored 15 but were held scoreless the first go around.

As for PSG, while their goals weren’t lucky, they may not get the same bounces this time around. Man City has allowed just 6 goals in 12 EPL games. Their backline, led by veteran Kyle Walker, is elite.

The PSG attacking trio hasn’t quite looked as good as many were expected either, so I would bet this game is more low scoring than high scoring.

Bordeaux is currently outside relegation territory in 16th place.

Its undefeated in its last three matches, defeating Reims, the 17th placed team. Bordeaux averages 1.25 goals per game but is giving up 2 per game which could be a problem against an elite PSG attack.

PASS on the money line. It’s just far too pricey for PSG here, especially given who it’s missing and its current form.

Typically when PSG plays in Ligue 1, there’s little value on the money line. However, there’s also zero chance anyone would suggest taking the side opposite of PSG.

I would consider betting BOTH TEAMS TO SCORE (-125) though. To be fair, it’s basically just a bet that Bordeaux will get on the board.

The home side has scored 16 goals in 12 games. With PSG struggling to defend well, giving up 11 in 12 games, it’s a much better wager than the very price money line.

Over/Under (O/U)

BET on the OVER 3.5 (+100) as PSG should have both Neymar and Mbappe in the lineup. That combination is lethal in the attacking third and should produce against a Bordeaux side that’s allowing far too many chances.

PSG is averaging over 2 goals per game, and taking on the third-worst defense in Ligue 1, I’d expect it to reach at least its season average if not more.

For Bordeaux, there are no reasons Hwang Ui-Jo won’t start. He’s had 4 goals in 9 games. If he’s in and PSG has their attacking duo, an attack-heavy game could be in store.

BET on PSG (+140) as they get a nice odds boost due to being on the road and also being down two key players.

Neymar and then players like M Angel di Maria and F Mauro Icardi should be able to still produce goals. It’s hard to quantify the impact of life without Messi and Mbappe, but Leizig has been that bad defensively in UCL action.

Also, PSG took down RB Leipzig and Man City in their last two matches, so they should be primed to continue their hot streak. Easily the best side in Ligue 1 action, expect PSG to come out on top despite being short-handed.

It’s really the only way to bet the money line.

Over/Under (O/U)

“LEAN” to the OVER 3.5 (+115) for a fraction of a unit.

The attacking prowess will still be alive, and Leipzig, while they are without key players, still have M Emil Forsberg and M Christopher Nkunku, both of which have four goals in Bundesliga action.

They will, however, be down D Lukas Klostermann, who has six starts on the season. His absence could hurt their already-weak defense. Down defenders and with attackers still present, RB Leipzig may force a score-heavy match.

With that in mind, I expect both sides to get on the board, but I think betting on more than three goals is always risky, especially without Mbappe or Messi.

Given the scenario, a small unit is a good move for the total.

Whenever you can get the team that’s easily the most talented in the league for under -200, it’s a smart play. PSG hasn’t clicked as well as many had hoped, but it still has just one loss and zero draws across ten matches.

With F Kylian Mbappe looking likely to play and M Georginio Wijnaldum as an option as well, PSG will have the talent to press Marseille. Betting on PSG is an easy one given it’s level of talent all across the pitch.
